Albion: The Enchanted Stallion

Albion: The Enchanted Stallion (2016)

Genre: Adventure, Comedy, Family Film, Fantasy

I was not expected much from this movie as I had not heard much about it and decided to just give this film a chance. The best thing I can say about this film is that it is simply alright ๐Ÿ™‚ . The story was very predictable but pleasant enough and did keep me fairly entertained throughout. It is a lighthearted fantasy but enough to show you an entire magical world and I did enjoy the adventure style mission. The main character of Evie (Avery Arendes) I actually liked as we got to see her back story and situation plus she stayed true to character ๐Ÿ™‚ . Her other companions Eriu (Castille Landon) and Lรญr (Daniel Sharman) were good too. They did looked very โ€œB-Movieโ€ with their costumes and as much as their characters were okay they were tad cheesy ๐Ÿ˜› . Most of the characters had a stereotypical feel to them and cheesiness affected the whole film but that could be a side effect of trying to create an entire fantasy world. The Horse was great and I really liked how Evie entered the world of Albion ๐Ÿ˜€ . I also really liked when they found The Abbess (Jennifer Morrison) and the character of Eremon (Liam McIntyre) was alright. I did liked the twist with who Evieโ€™s parents are (as its predictability of this movie could have lead it a different way ๐Ÿ˜› ) but I wish the film had ended differently. John Cleese was hard to spot straight away as his character (General Eader) is so disgusting but I think he acted him well (as I think the disgusting thing is on purpose ๐Ÿ˜› ). Overall, this is a pleasant and fairly entertaining fantasy for the entire family of all ages ๐Ÿ™‚ . If you like child friendly fantasy adventure movies than this is for you ๐Ÿ™‚ . Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜€

I give this film 3.5 Stars out of 5!

Thor: Ragnarok

Thor: Ragnarok (2017)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Comedy, Marvel

I was so excited to see this newest edition to the Thor movies and this one is the best so far ๐Ÿ˜€ . The story matched the expectation while also keeping you surprised (it is not predicable ๐Ÿ˜› ). The pace was very good especially for the fact, this film is the shortest in length and you did not feel it at all. I felt like I was thrown into the action (in a good way ๐Ÿ˜› ) and I did not have to wait before I was shown the next. The main cast that you expect, such as Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Loki (Tom Hiddleston) were great ๐Ÿ˜€ . I loved the additions of other Marvel characters into this movie ๐Ÿ™‚ . The scene with Dr. Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and the way he treated the two brothers I adored and comedy of this movie was well placed ๐Ÿ™‚ . The colour scheme and the neon 80โ€™s feel made this film quite unique and very entertaining to watch the entire movie. The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) was amazing in this film and we saw the most of his character than ever before which made him funnier and adorable ๐Ÿ˜€ . I really liked the character of Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) as for once there is a female (good) character in a Thor movie that I donโ€™t hate ๐Ÿ˜› . They gave us enough of her character to understand without overpowering the Thor narrative. The villain Hela, is the strongest in the Asgard world that I have seen and Cate Blanchett was impressive. This is the best Thor movie I have seen so far and I cannot wait to watch this again or see another sequel ๐Ÿ˜› . I definitely recommend this film to any Marvel Fan ๐Ÿ˜€ . Enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

The Lady in the Van

The Lady in the Van (2015)

Genre:ย  Biography, Comedy, Drama

I had been recommended this movie by a few people and I was ready to be impressed by this โ€œmostlyโ€ biographical film ๐Ÿ˜› . No one can be disappointed by Maggie Smith as Miss Shepherd because she performed great and created a believable character ๐Ÿ™‚ . To be fair, she was not the most likable character in this, but I could withstand it to watch this movie. Alan Bennett portrayed by Alex Jennings, was my favourite character as he was easy to follow and to like ๐Ÿ™‚ . I also loved that there are โ€œtwoโ€ Alan Bennettโ€™s in this movie who talk to each other and narrated along with us ๐Ÿ˜€ . When we did get to know the โ€œtwistโ€ and reason for Miss Shepherdโ€™s situation (which is hinted at in the beginning) was good. It was interesting as we found the answer with Alan Bennett plus the relationship between the two characters (Miss Shepherd and Bennett) was charming ๐Ÿ™‚ . ย The story is mostly okay and does keep you fairly entertained. I do believe this is more of a โ€œmarmiteโ€ type of film as I was not the most impressed as I know others have been. I found some parts too tedious and I was not entirely entertained. Though there are touching moments and as much as her character was unlikable, the film would not be as good as it was without Maggie Smith ๐Ÿ˜› . This is an alright movie if you are a fan of Alan Bennett, Maggie Smith or British comedy biographical movies. I donโ€™t know if I would watch this again but I may recommend ๐Ÿ™‚ . Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜€

Mr. Peabody & Sherman

Mr. Peabody & Sherman (2014)

Genre: Animation, Adventure, Comedy

I had not seen the retro cartoon series about Mr. Peabody & Sherman so I am unsure whether this has stayed loyal to the original or has offended original fans. However, for me I found this a very entertaining movie that had me captivated from beginning to the end ๐Ÿ™‚ . The characters they introduced were all likeable; Mr. Peabody (Ty Burrell), Sherman (Max Charles) and Penny (Ariel Winter). The animation was also very good ๐Ÿ˜€ . I really enjoyed the storyline as it was well thought-out with plenty of humour as well as some issues suitable for children. The comedy made me laugh but I did appreciate the rift between the characters. We saw how Sherman struggled at school at the beginning and how he clashes with his dad as the movie continues (you will see when you watch it ๐Ÿ˜› ). I liked the characters we met through history as it made playful jokes but was smart with storyline to not be too ridiculous ๐Ÿ˜› . This is a rather unique story that can be seen as predicable but I donโ€™t think so. It is aimed for the family and I think both children and adults can be entertained by this movie from Dreamworks ๐Ÿ™‚ . I also found Odysseusโ€™ reaction to a certain character at the end was very funny (wonโ€™t say which character as that would spoil ๐Ÿ˜› ). Overall, this is a great movie that I would happily watch again and would recommend ๐Ÿ˜€ . Enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

I give this film 4 Stars out of 5!

Geostorm

Geostorm (2017)

Genre: Action, Sci-fi, Thriller

I was looking forward to a decent disaster movie as I havenโ€™t seen any that have matched up to expectations for a while. This is not the best one you will ever see but it does a decent job ๐Ÿ™‚ . The CGI was plenty and decent quality. They were very dramatic to keep you entertained and I donโ€™t think this affected the movie at all. My favourite disaster was the ice blast in Brazil as it definitely kept you gripped to the movie though I did like the fire in Hong Kong too ๐Ÿ˜€ . The main characters were alright, I canโ€™t say I was attached to any of the characters and donโ€™t know if I was bothered if they made it. However, to be fair I canโ€™t say I did not like them either and they worked enough for you to enjoy the movie as a whole. I liked the reason for creating Dutch-Boy and the reason why this Geostorm was happening ๐Ÿ™‚ . The pace of the movie ran well and it does enough to keep you entertained throughout ๐Ÿ™‚ . Each disaster that happened got more dramatic and you did feel for the characters involved (mostly those characters werenโ€™t main characters ๐Ÿ˜› ). The bad guy(s) tried to be different and clever which I appreciate but the cheesy attempt to create emotion near the conclusion was too much. I felt more for Maxโ€™s friend (when you watch it, you will know ๐Ÿ˜› ) then the people in space in the end. The movie ended rather too happily but I still enjoyed the overall movie. This is a decent disaster movie that is great for anyone who likes these types of film with a good story ๐Ÿ™‚ . Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜€

The Guardian Brothers

The Guardian Brothers (2016)

Genre: Animation, Family Film

I was unsure what to expect from this animation that had originally been created and shown in China first. You do notice at times, especially Raindrop (Bella Thorne), her animation does not match up with her now English voice over which I tried to not to judge on (but it did become a tad irritable ๐Ÿ˜› ). Also, I found the animated dogs a little distracting as they acted too โ€œcartoonyโ€ compared to the world of the film. Apart from that, I liked this movie ๐Ÿ™‚ . I really liked the animation on everything else and the world of the Spirits ๐Ÿ˜€ ! It was very colourful, each character was different, the rules made clear to me and I really liked their designs ๐Ÿ™‚ . Bloom (Cristina Pucelli) was a very pretty design while Shen Tu (Dan Fogler) and Yu Lei (Edward Norton) had gold versions. The narrative itself is easy to follow but got more captivating as the film continued. I liked the set up as it explained the situation and made me understand why certain characters did as they did. The climatic threat was good, the daemon I liked (wonโ€™t say any more as I donโ€™t want to spoil ๐Ÿ˜› ) and the ending was sweet. I liked that we had two stories running along each other, one the soup shop and the other breaking the seals. I know there are many bad reviews on this as they found the dubbing a struggle. I do agree on the count of Raindrop as she sounded far too grown up for me to bear. And they never answer what happened to Bloom (when you watch you will see what I mean ๐Ÿ˜› )? However, as I continued and watched the story (rather than focus on the voicing) I found I enjoyed it but this maybe a marmite thing ๐Ÿ˜› . Plus who knows, the original (in Chinese) may have been better ๐Ÿ˜› . I say give this film a try if you like animation with a decent story concept, but I have to admit it is not the best in the world. Enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

Goodbye Christopher Robin

Goodbye Christopher Robin (2017)

Genre: Biography, Family Film, History

I was excited to see this biography film about the life of the author A.A.Milne who created Winnie the Pooh ๐Ÿ™‚ . I had expected this to be similar to โ€œSaving Mr. Banksโ€ which was an endearing film and was also about the author of a famous literary character. However, I tried not to judge this film on that and enjoyed this tale throughout ๐Ÿ™‚ . The scenery and costumes were great and I did feel captivated by their world ๐Ÿ˜€ . The acting was superb and I believed every single character especially Christopher Robin (Will Tilston) who was fabulous ๐Ÿ˜€ . The story throws to you straight into the worse part of this story at the beginning which leaves you on an edge of sorrow as you watch the rest (until the film catches back up with itself in the timeline). I loved the scene in the forest with Alan (Domhnall Gleeson) and Christopher Robin as his imagination with the snow was great ๐Ÿ™‚ . I even liked the post traumatic stress disorder Milne was suffering appear in the movie as it helped us understand his character more. Daphne (Margot Robbie) was hard to understand and she became my least favourite character. The film did not shy away from the hard issues Christopher endured and the narrative was very enlightening. I never knew that he had to go through this and found the film had more of a depressive feel than heart-warming. Though, during the World War 2 section I completely felt for Milne and it was a rather sad scene (when you watch you will know ๐Ÿ˜› ). This is an overall, great movie that is worth the watch but this maybe more suited to adults than for the whole family ๐Ÿ™‚ . Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜€

Strange Magic

Strange Magic (2015)

Genre: Animation, Adventure, Comedy, Family Film

I am a fan of animated films about romance and fantasy plus at times I donโ€™t mind cheesy films ๐Ÿ˜› . This started really good and had me quite captivated with its introduction. I liked the idea of the two sides (one good and one bad) and the animation was great ๐Ÿ™‚ . The CGI was fabulous and the look of the creatures was fantastic ๐Ÿ˜€ . My favourite creature was the Imp who was adorable and his reason for being in this film was worth it. I also loved the image of the fairies and their colours and I did appreciate the Bog King (Alan Cumming) not being pretty ๐Ÿ˜› . The story is very predictable from the beginning the story starts but I was willing to forgive this. However, by the time the story hit half way (about the time Marianne (Evan Rachel Wood) went to find her sister on her own) the story got gradually worse. The cheesiness became unbearable as it continued (and I was trying to stomach as much as I could) with no surprises in this narrative. The romance was fine but I preferred Dawnโ€™s (Meredith Anne Bull) and Sunnyโ€™s (Elijah Kelly) rather than the possibility of the main charactersโ€™. I found their โ€œromanceโ€ ridiculously too quick (it was barely a few hours maybe less) for True Love ๐Ÿ˜› . The songs are good and catchy (plus modern) but I found this film was over reliant on them. However, I did enjoy the scene when Dawn (when infected by the potions) sets her eyes on the first thing she sees ๐Ÿ˜› . This is an animation I enjoyed in the beginning and despised at the end. I would not recommend this. Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜›

I give this film 1.5 Stars out of 5!

Genre: Drama, Horror, Sci-fi

I have not seen the original movie so I cannot compare how much better or worse this reboot movie is. However, when seeing the trailer I was very excited to see this and was happily entertained throughout ๐Ÿ™‚ . There is an amazing good cast for this film such as Ellen Page (Courtney), Diego Luna (Ray), Nina Dobrev (Marlo) and James Norton (Jamie) who all acted good ๐Ÿ™‚ . I believed the friendship and how the team got together, plus I really enjoyed the beginning as it set up the โ€œdramaโ€ of the story well ๐Ÿ™‚ . The scares in this film may not give you nightmares but will definitely make you jump and I certainly jumped a few times ๐Ÿ˜› . The graphics of the โ€œsupernaturalโ€ world was great and I was on edge when the โ€œhorrorโ€ elements appeared. The worst scary scene but my favourite had to be the โ€œMorgueโ€ scene ๐Ÿ˜€ . I also really enjoyed the surprise in who would die first, as that was surprising and I never could have guessed ๐Ÿ˜› . ย However, I did enjoy the first half more and the ending could have finished better. Donโ€™t get me wrong, it ended fine and I did not have a problem but it could have had a more dramatic climax. Also my least favourite character was Sophia (Kiersey Clemons) but I understood why she was there (kind of ๐Ÿ˜› ). ย Though, I really did enjoy it and liked the attention to small details such as 9 years ago Courtney holds a flip phone but a smart phone in the present day ๐Ÿ™‚ . I think (seeing other peopleโ€™s reaction to this movie) that you arenโ€™t going to love this movie if youโ€™re a fan of the original. However, if you looking for a rather entertaining movie that is not too scary to watch but jumpy, then this is for you ๐Ÿ™‚ .Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜€
