Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi, Marvel

The sequel to the awesome first movie and it definitely did not disappoint ๐Ÿ˜€ ! We got to see the guardians once again and it was nice to see how they have bonded as a group and their development. The beginning was cool as it introduced the new story (and development for one character in particular) well and I loved the new characters. Ego (Kurt Russell) was a very interesting character and his role in the story (I shall try not to spoil ๐Ÿ˜› ) was really good. Adding more of Yondu (Michael Rooker) and Nebula (Karen Gillan) was also a very interesting mix ๐Ÿ™‚ . The songs are awesome again and it was nice to find out what was on Vol. 2 ๐Ÿ˜› . My favourite scene was the โ€œMr. Blue Skyโ€ beginning (for the Guardians at least :P) as that was funny and I also liked the โ€œrealisationโ€ moment. Again, I canโ€™t say too much as I donโ€™t want to spoil but I loved how we learn how โ€œthe twistโ€ affected Peter Quillโ€™s parents ๐Ÿ™‚ . The fight scenes where also good especially the โ€œPac-Manโ€ one ๐Ÿ˜› . Baby Groot is also so adorable in this and the humour level is still pretty high throughout this film ๐Ÿ˜€ . There is also a really sad moment in this movie that is really shocking near the end. Though, it surprisingly did not make it depressive and felt fitting for the characters to continue in the Marvel Universe. The new alien races and the new worlds they introduced to this movie were also exceptional ๐Ÿ™‚ . I canโ€™t say too much more as I think anyone who loves Marvel or the first movie will want (and should) see this sequel. I definitely recommend ๐Ÿ˜€ . Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜€

I give this film 5 Stars out of 5!

Ghost in a Shell

Ghost in the Shell (2017)

Genre: Action, Crime, Drama, Sci-Fi

This film adaption of the original Japanese Manga is exactly as I imagined it would be and more ๐Ÿ˜€ ! I have never watched or read the original 90โ€™s Manga (or Anime) ย so I am unsure how true it was but I was so captivated that I did not mind ๐Ÿ˜› . The worldโ€™s set up is original, bright, well crafted and (kind of) believable. It looked like a realistic future and with that small introduction at the beginning, you believe that those characters actually โ€œliveโ€ there. Even though this is clearly a dystopian world it didnโ€™t feel depressive which helped make this film enjoyable ๐Ÿ™‚ . Not only was the world set up great (making me want to learn more ๐Ÿ˜› ), the music and characters were also crafted well. The CGI and design of Majorโ€™s robotic body was great. Also everyone elseโ€™s CGI for the robotic parts did not seem fake (which is obviously a good thing ๐Ÿ˜› ). I loved all the characters but my favourites were Batou (Pilou Asbรฆk), Kuze (Michael Pitt) and Scarlett Johansson as Major stole the show ๐Ÿ˜€ ! The fight scenes are plentiful, the chase scenes are good and parts are a bit scary / freaky (like the Geisha Robots ๐Ÿ˜› ) . There are nice shocking moments and twists that should have been predicable but were great instead ๐Ÿ™‚ . I loved that twist and I loved when we start learning more about Majorโ€™s past ( I canโ€™t say which part in the movie as I donโ€™t want to spoil ๐Ÿ˜› ). The pace flowed well and I would have liked to watch more of this film. A great Sci-fi that kept me entertained throughout and I would happily watch again ๐Ÿ™‚ . I definitely recommend whether you were a fan of the original or not ๐Ÿ˜› . Enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

I give this film 5 Stars out of 5!

Power Rangers

Power Rangers (2017)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

I was very excited about this as I used to watch the original series back when I was a child though I was a little anxious as this could also go very wrong. However, I very much enjoyed this movie for the nostalgia and for just being awesome ๐Ÿ˜€ ! The style of the movie is very slick and fits well with what we remember of the โ€œRangersโ€. The suits looked great, the zords are different from the original series but the film had a complete rework so you can forgive it ๐Ÿ™‚ . The main cast (Dacre Montgomery, Noami Scott, RJ Cyler, Ludi Lin and Becky G.) are fresh and very good at portraying the individual characters. I liked how each had a back-story that was relatable and understandable and made you actually root for the characters. My favourites were Zackโ€™s back-story and the character of Billy ๐Ÿ˜€ . However each one was pretty good ๐Ÿ™‚ . Elizabeth Banksโ€™ portrayal of Rita Repulsa was awesome and she was a terrifyingly evil! Her costume and movements made her a weirdly believable villain to defeat. The look of Zordon and Alpha 5 were great even if it was different. I loved the beginning and hint to a series of movies by that teaser in the credits ๐Ÿ˜› . It had some shocking and surprising moments that I was not prepared for ๐Ÿ™‚ . Also this movie is surprisingly not cheesy even when playing that original song from the series as it just became nostalgic. The humour and the charactersโ€™ relationships were great too. Overall, a truly fabulous movie that is great for the fans of the original and for the younger generation (to be fair I think the entire family will enjoy this ๐Ÿ™‚ ). I am looking forward to seeing another Power Ranger movie which I am sure is on the way ๐Ÿ˜› . Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜€

I give this film 5 Stars out of 5!

After Earth

After Earth (2013)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

This film is not as bad as I thought it would be but it is definitely nothing to rave about ๐Ÿ˜› . The idea of the story is alright and could have been great if it wasnโ€™t for the plot holes and being uninteresting. The acting isnโ€™t great here but you can stick with it because of Will Smith but his character (Cypher Raige) and especially Jaden Smithโ€™s (Kitai Raige) were not likable. I felt nothing for them and really did not care if they made it. Okay, maybe I am being a little harsh as there were parts I enjoyed ๐Ÿ™‚ . I kind of liked the beginning as it threw you straight into the action and I liked the flashbacks as we learnt what had happened to the family (I wonโ€™t spoil in case you do watch this ๐Ÿ˜› ). I even liked the hallucination Kitai had with Senshi (Zoรซ Kravitz) and the โ€œideaโ€ of the monster was fairly good. I especially liked when we learnt what could defeat the monster, and when we saw the dead people in the trees hinting that more than just these two characters could have survived. However, the coldness of the two main characters affected the movie and it had some pretty unrealistic moments (even for Sci-Fi ๐Ÿ˜› ) and this did not keep me captivated. For example, why would a creature save him when it had tried to eat him earlier with no reason at all? The CGI was alright but not great either ๐Ÿ˜› . I donโ€™t know why this movie was like this, not great or very interesting. It is alright and easy enough to watch if you like something you donโ€™t have to pay attention to ๐Ÿ™‚ . An okay-ish movie that I probably wouldnโ€™t recommend but I guess itโ€™s passable for an easy Sci-Fi watch. Enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

I give this film 2 Stars out of 5!

Logan (2017)

Genre: Action, Drama, Sci-Fi

This is the last ever performance of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine…and it is awesome ๐Ÿ˜€ . The storyline is pretty good and kept me entertained from start to finish ๐Ÿ™‚ . I liked the hints throughout of โ€œwhat has happened to the mutants?โ€ that we kept getting from various characterโ€™s speeches and media (like the radio in Loganโ€™s car). The reason they go, the bad guysโ€™ entrance and even the action scenes were good. I was captivated by wondering what has (and was) happening throughout. ย I liked that the story did not fall into a typical X-Men narrative and focused on Wolverine as this is what the whole movie is about. The performance from Hugh Jackman was his best yet as Wolverine and Patrick Stewart was great as the much older Charles Xavier ๐Ÿ˜€ . Dafne Keen was also great as Laura and I liked how she acted a bit like a wild animal during the fight scenes. I also enjoyed the reason she was there plus her connection with Logan was reasonable and did not hinder his character ๐Ÿ™‚ . There is plenty of humour, sweet and shocking moments and definitely some emotional ones too ย ๐Ÿ˜› . I really enjoyed the scenes that hinted to where Laura is from (canโ€™t say too much as I donโ€™t want to spoil ๐Ÿ˜› ) and the ending was fitting. This movie was a decent end to two familiar (and probably favourite ๐Ÿ˜› ) characters and an end to X-Men movies that began in 2000 ๐Ÿ™‚ . This is no Days of Future Past but still a great film. This is definitely worth the watch for any X-Men fan ๐Ÿ™‚ Enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

I give this film 4.5 Stars out of 5!

Passengers (2016)

Genre: Adventure, Drama, Romance, Sci-Fi

This is a well crafted sci-fi movie that can keep most captivated with its interesting storyline. The premise is that two characters wake too early on a spaceship and that is intriguing on its own but with the dramatic action and edge of your seat moments it becomes unique ๐Ÿ˜› . I loved the fact that this was as unpredictable as expected and that I was unsure who would make it or how it would end ๐Ÿ˜€ . The two lead characters Jim Preston (Chris Pratt) and Aurora Lane (Jennifer Lawrence) were absolutely stunning ย ๐Ÿ˜€ ! Their chemistry was believable and their acting superb. I loved Chris at the beginning when he realises he has woken too early and loved Jennifer when she discovers the truth (canโ€™t say what truth as that would spoil the whole thing! ๐Ÿ˜› ). The visuals are pretty good and the sense of โ€œthings worse to comeโ€ builds nicely throughout the movie ๐Ÿ™‚ . I loved this for its romance and (kind of) suspense. Although, as much as โ€œPassengersโ€ kept me entertained, I was disappointed. It was such a good film that I was expecting a brilliant ending that would match the rest of the film. Donโ€™t get me wrong the ending is good and fitting, but it was missing something and Iโ€™m not sure what that was. Overall, a decent movie that you can enjoy but Iโ€™m unsure if youโ€™d want to watch it more than once ๐Ÿ˜› . Enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

I give this film 4 Stars out of 5!

Rogue One

Rogue One (2016)

Genre: Sci-Fi, Adventure, Action

A spin off movie based on the Star Wars Franchise which I simply loved ๐Ÿ˜€ . Whether you have watched the original movies (the 70โ€™s), watched the entire Star Wars movies or have never seen any, you can still appreciate and enjoy this movie. The storyline is unique, entertaining and at times funny ๐Ÿ˜€ . The narrative isnโ€™t confusing (so anyone who hasnโ€™t seen any can understand) and I liked that it made plenty of references to previous Star Wars movies ๐Ÿ˜€ . I loved the entire Rogue One main characters especially Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) and Cassian Andor (Diego Luna). I loved their relationship (or hint of one ๐Ÿ˜› ) and the last scene we see them in this movie was spectacular (I canโ€™t say because I donโ€™t want to spoil it ๐Ÿ˜› ). K-2SO (Alan Tudyk) is now my favourite robot from the Star Wars franchise! He was so funny and had a attitude (and sass ๐Ÿ˜› ) problem which I simply loved ๐Ÿ˜€ ! A part of me would have loved the ending to have been different (when you see it you will understand) but it makes sense to end it the way it did. Plus I canโ€™t deny it made this movie different from the others. I also appreciated how thy incorporated clips (and actual people) from the other films and made they fit seamlessly with the newer CGI in this movie. There are some sad tragic moments and the dark side are impressive ๐Ÿ˜€ . A great movie for Star War fans and for those who arenโ€™t (as this is a standalone movie) that I definitely recommend ๐Ÿ˜€ Enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

I give this film 5 Stars out of 5!

Save the Rebellion. Save the Dream.

The Purge

The Purge (2013)

Genre: Horror, Sci-Fi, Thriller

I know there had been many negative reviews about this movie but quite honestly I really enjoyed it.ย  The story was original and very interesting. The narrative about a near future America where they have an annual 12 hour Purge were all crime is legal had me gripped from the beginning to the end. I get why many people didnโ€™t like this film because it is not scary and would not be top of the horror genres as it did not really act like a horror movie (though people do get killed ๐Ÿ˜› ). However, I loved it. It was my kind of horror with the suspense, drama, interesting thriller vibe and you had no idea who would live or who was a bad guy ๐Ÿ˜› . A great cast led by James Sandin (Ethan Hawke) and Mary Sandin (Lena Headey) plus the overall movie look was executed well. I loved the scene when the young boy lets the homeless guy into the house and loved the ending ๐Ÿ˜€ . The film is more of a thriller than a horror but there is a reason this movie has gotten sequels! A great concept, very entertaining and a captivating story line with a likeable family (though the daughter was a tad annoying)! Also great for those who prefer story to gore :P. A film I would definitely watch again and recommend! Enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

I give this film 4.5 Stars out of 5!

Survive the night.

Arrival (2016)

Genre: Drama, Mystery, Sci-fi

The first thing I have to mention about Arrival is that I loved Amy Adams in this movie ๐Ÿ˜€ ! She was stunning as her portrayal of Dr Louise Banks and was very believable. Her position of power did not affect the story and it made sense for her to be helping the Alien situation (over anyone else). Plus that beginning introduction was a fabulous opening and helps make us connect with Dr Banks from the outset ๐Ÿ™‚ . Jeremy Renner was also good as Ian Donnelly and also created a believable secondary character. The narrative itself is quite long but doesnโ€™t get boring so the length isnโ€™t really a problem. The mystery of the aliens is created amazingly leaving you with a sense of wonder and curiosity ๐Ÿ™‚ . The surprise twist part way through the movie was seriously amazing and I was so surprised that I never expected it ๐Ÿ˜› . It is a very thought provoking movie and a definitely unique take on the Sci Fi genre. I would seriously recommend it to anyone looking for a Sci Fi / alien move that is different from the rest (in a good way ๐Ÿ˜› ). However, as much as I truly enjoyed the movie and the ending, I have to say it had an edge disappointment. I guess I felt her choice at the end (when you see it you will know) was a little depressive knowing what will come to pass will happen. Also the Aliensโ€™ reason for being here is a little under impressive. However, it was good enough to finish the story. Overall, a great Sci-Fi movie that I definitely recommend ๐Ÿ™‚ ! Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜€

I give this film 4.5 Stars out of 5!
