Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Fantasy, Sci-Fi

I had not heard much of this before the first trailers but I was excited to see a new sci-fi movie 🙂 . The story line is very entertaining and interesting throughout. The beginning was very captivating at the start and actually quite emotionally as well (when you see the scene you will know what I mean 😛 ). The graphics and the overall visual world was absolutely amazing 😀 . It the way the “City of a Thousand Planets” was created was very interesting to see and I loved how in each world I was immersed entirely. They flowed well and the “missions” in the film were action packed and exciting to watch 🙂 . The overall main storyline is a little predicable but I found it enjoyable enough to watch till the end. Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne were great as Valerian and Laureline. Their chemistry was a nice touch and very believable 🙂 . All the cast was very good but the main two characters were the best. Rihanna was pretty decent as her character Bubble and I did enjoy her change outfits routine 😀 . However, her character was not as compelling as she could have been to make me care for her as much as her scene (you will know which one 😛 ) wanted me too. The twist in the story is not a shocker but I did enjoy the ending 🙂 . This is a really good sci-fi that I would happily watch again and I enjoyed its pleasant tale. I think it needs a pleasant story to start us off with this new world and the films which I am sure are to follow 😀 . This is worth the watch for anyone who loves Sci-fi and wanting something new 🙂 . Enjoy 😀

I give this film 4.5 Stars out of 5!

Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi, Marvel

I have always been a huge fan of Spider-Man since I was a child and have been very excited to see this newest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe 🙂 . Tom Holland introduced a great Spider-Man in “Captain America: Civil War” and continued in this film by creating a very likable character. He made a brilliant version that was charming and sweet 🙂 . I loved the story development with its great action scenes, fantastic twists and connections to other Marvel movies 😀 . The addition of the “Avengers” and mostly Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) was fabulous. He was funny but a great mentor/father figure that helped the story and I looked forward to seeing him and Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau) 😀 . Because it meant more danger / adventure was about to happen (trying not to spoil 😛 ). The villain Jon Favreau (Michael Keaton) was a brilliant and dangerous bad guy for Spider-Man. He looked impressive, was strong in the battles and his ending was fitting plus different! His twist part way through was amazing and his reason to become a villain was completely understandable (I felt sorry for him 😛 ). The humour was really strong in this as well 😀 . One of my favourite edge-of- your- seat moments was the “elevator scene” and the other scene was “the boat in half scene”. The flow of the movie went well and his friend Ned (Jacob Batalon) was a welcome (and needed) addition. I loved the ending of the movie as from that last second I cannot wait to see how the next Spider-Man movie will continue 😀 . Also Marvel fans stay for the end credit (as you probably always do) as the very last extra scene is hilarious. A great movie for Marvel Fans that I recommend 🙂 . Enjoy 😀

I give this film 5 Stars out of 5!

Can’t you just be a friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man?

Iron Man

Iron Man (2008)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi, Marvel

The movie that started off the amazing Marvel Cinematic Universe as we know it 😀 . This film might be the most interesting origin story and the most (in my opinion) captivating. I was gripped from the beginning scene to the very end 🙂 . I loved how in a sense, we have shoved straight into the action (with the kidnapping) as it made you want to see more. Robert Downey Jr. is perfect for Tony Stark 😀 . With his great acting skills, Downey Jr. uses Tony’s arrogance, charm and witty humour to make his character likable from the start 😀 . The supporting cast were also great in building the humour and action plus Gwyneth Paltrow’s version of Pepper Potts in this was my favourite version.  Obadiah Stane (Jeff Bridges) was also a good character in this movie and I really liked his character development and role in this movie. The music is great and the CGI is fantastic 😀 . I loved the scenes where Tony is building (and testing) the Iron Man suit that we know today and loved his “revenge” against the terrorists as Iron Man later in the movie 🙂 .  As well as the humour, there are some touching moments such as the scene when Tony is escaping near the beginning (I won’t say no more as I don’t want to spoil 😛 ). Also the danger element in this film and the “not sure if he will make it” is very gripping (nail biting though you know he is in later movies 😛 ) . The conclusion worked well and the hints to later films in the franchise such as Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) making his appearance. The movie set a strong bar for the others to follow and this movie is enjoyable to watch multiple times. Plus the actual ending (not the special credit ending 😛 ) with Tony Stark’s line is awesome 🙂 . Worth the watch for any Superhero fan not just the Marvel Fans 😀 Enjoy 😀

I give this film 5 Stars out of 5!

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi, Marvel

The sequel to the awesome first movie and it definitely did not disappoint 😀 ! We got to see the guardians once again and it was nice to see how they have bonded as a group and their development. The beginning was cool as it introduced the new story (and development for one character in particular) well and I loved the new characters. Ego (Kurt Russell) was a very interesting character and his role in the story (I shall try not to spoil 😛 ) was really good. Adding more of Yondu (Michael Rooker) and Nebula (Karen Gillan) was also a very interesting mix 🙂 . The songs are awesome again and it was nice to find out what was on Vol. 2 😛 . My favourite scene was the “Mr. Blue Sky” beginning (for the Guardians at least :P) as that was funny and I also liked the “realisation” moment. Again, I can’t say too much as I don’t want to spoil but I loved how we learn how “the twist” affected Peter Quill’s parents 🙂 . The fight scenes where also good especially the “Pac-Man” one 😛 . Baby Groot is also so adorable in this and the humour level is still pretty high throughout this film 😀 . There is also a really sad moment in this movie that is really shocking near the end. Though, it surprisingly did not make it depressive and felt fitting for the characters to continue in the Marvel Universe. The new alien races and the new worlds they introduced to this movie were also exceptional 🙂 . I can’t say too much more as I think anyone who loves Marvel or the first movie will want (and should) see this sequel. I definitely recommend 😀 . Enjoy 😀

Ghost in a Shell

Ghost in the Shell (2017)

Genre: Action, Crime, Drama, Sci-Fi

This film adaption of the original Japanese Manga is exactly as I imagined it would be and more 😀 ! I have never watched or read the original 90’s Manga (or Anime)  so I am unsure how true it was but I was so captivated that I did not mind 😛 . The world’s set up is original, bright, well crafted and (kind of) believable. It looked like a realistic future and with that small introduction at the beginning, you believe that those characters actually “live” there. Even though this is clearly a dystopian world it didn’t feel depressive which helped make this film enjoyable 🙂 . Not only was the world set up great (making me want to learn more 😛 ), the music and characters were also crafted well. The CGI and design of Major’s robotic body was great. Also everyone else’s CGI for the robotic parts did not seem fake (which is obviously a good thing 😛 ). I loved all the characters but my favourites were Batou (Pilou Asbæk), Kuze (Michael Pitt) and Scarlett Johansson as Major stole the show 😀 ! The fight scenes are plentiful, the chase scenes are good and parts are a bit scary / freaky (like the Geisha Robots 😛 ) . There are nice shocking moments and twists that should have been predicable but were great instead 🙂 . I loved that twist and I loved when we start learning more about Major’s past ( I can’t say which part in the movie as I don’t want to spoil 😛 ). The pace flowed well and I would have liked to watch more of this film. A great Sci-fi that kept me entertained throughout and I would happily watch again 🙂 . I definitely recommend whether you were a fan of the original or not 😛 . Enjoy 🙂

Power Rangers

Power Rangers (2017)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

I was very excited about this as I used to watch the original series back when I was a child though I was a little anxious as this could also go very wrong. However, I very much enjoyed this movie for the nostalgia and for just being awesome 😀 ! The style of the movie is very slick and fits well with what we remember of the “Rangers”. The suits looked great, the zords are different from the original series but the film had a complete rework so you can forgive it 🙂 . The main cast (Dacre Montgomery, Noami Scott, RJ Cyler, Ludi Lin and Becky G.) are fresh and very good at portraying the individual characters. I liked how each had a back-story that was relatable and understandable and made you actually root for the characters. My favourites were Zack’s back-story and the character of Billy 😀 . However each one was pretty good 🙂 . Elizabeth Banks’ portrayal of Rita Repulsa was awesome and she was a terrifyingly evil! Her costume and movements made her a weirdly believable villain to defeat. The look of Zordon and Alpha 5 were great even if it was different. I loved the beginning and hint to a series of movies by that teaser in the credits 😛 . It had some shocking and surprising moments that I was not prepared for 🙂 . Also this movie is surprisingly not cheesy even when playing that original song from the series as it just became nostalgic. The humour and the characters’ relationships were great too. Overall, a truly fabulous movie that is great for the fans of the original and for the younger generation (to be fair I think the entire family will enjoy this 🙂 ). I am looking forward to seeing another Power Ranger movie which I am sure is on the way 😛 . Enjoy 😀

After Earth

After Earth (2013)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

This film is not as bad as I thought it would be but it is definitely nothing to rave about 😛 . The idea of the story is alright and could have been great if it wasn’t for the plot holes and being uninteresting. The acting isn’t great here but you can stick with it because of Will Smith but his character (Cypher Raige) and especially Jaden Smith’s (Kitai Raige) were not likable. I felt nothing for them and really did not care if they made it. Okay, maybe I am being a little harsh as there were parts I enjoyed 🙂 . I kind of liked the beginning as it threw you straight into the action and I liked the flashbacks as we learnt what had happened to the family (I won’t spoil in case you do watch this 😛 ). I even liked the hallucination Kitai had with Senshi (Zoë Kravitz) and the “idea” of the monster was fairly good. I especially liked when we learnt what could defeat the monster, and when we saw the dead people in the trees hinting that more than just these two characters could have survived. However, the coldness of the two main characters affected the movie and it had some pretty unrealistic moments (even for Sci-Fi 😛 ) and this did not keep me captivated. For example, why would a creature save him when it had tried to eat him earlier with no reason at all? The CGI was alright but not great either 😛 . I don’t know why this movie was like this, not great or very interesting. It is alright and easy enough to watch if you like something you don’t have to pay attention to 🙂 . An okay-ish movie that I probably wouldn’t recommend but I guess it’s passable for an easy Sci-Fi watch. Enjoy 🙂

I give this film 2 Stars out of 5!

Danger is real. Fear is a choice.

Logan (2017)

Genre: Action, Drama, Sci-Fi

This is the last ever performance of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine…and it is awesome 😀 . The storyline is pretty good and kept me entertained from start to finish 🙂 . I liked the hints throughout of “what has happened to the mutants?” that we kept getting from various character’s speeches and media (like the radio in Logan’s car). The reason they go, the bad guys’ entrance and even the action scenes were good. I was captivated by wondering what has (and was) happening throughout.  I liked that the story did not fall into a typical X-Men narrative and focused on Wolverine as this is what the whole movie is about. The performance from Hugh Jackman was his best yet as Wolverine and Patrick Stewart was great as the much older Charles Xavier 😀 . Dafne Keen was also great as Laura and I liked how she acted a bit like a wild animal during the fight scenes. I also enjoyed the reason she was there plus her connection with Logan was reasonable and did not hinder his character 🙂 . There is plenty of humour, sweet and shocking moments and definitely some emotional ones too  😛 . I really enjoyed the scenes that hinted to where Laura is from (can’t say too much as I don’t want to spoil 😛 ) and the ending was fitting. This movie was a decent end to two familiar (and probably favourite 😛 ) characters and an end to X-Men movies that began in 2000 🙂 . This is no Days of Future Past but still a great film. This is definitely worth the watch for any X-Men fan 🙂 Enjoy 🙂

I give this film 4.5 Stars out of 5!

His time has come.

Passengers (2016)

Genre: Adventure, Drama, Romance, Sci-Fi

This is a well crafted sci-fi movie that can keep most captivated with its interesting storyline. The premise is that two characters wake too early on a spaceship and that is intriguing on its own but with the dramatic action and edge of your seat moments it becomes unique 😛 . I loved the fact that this was as unpredictable as expected and that I was unsure who would make it or how it would end 😀 . The two lead characters Jim Preston (Chris Pratt) and Aurora Lane (Jennifer Lawrence) were absolutely stunning  😀 ! Their chemistry was believable and their acting superb. I loved Chris at the beginning when he realises he has woken too early and loved Jennifer when she discovers the truth (can’t say what truth as that would spoil the whole thing! 😛 ). The visuals are pretty good and the sense of “things worse to come” builds nicely throughout the movie 🙂 . I loved this for its romance and (kind of) suspense. Although, as much as “Passengers” kept me entertained, I was disappointed. It was such a good film that I was expecting a brilliant ending that would match the rest of the film. Don’t get me wrong the ending is good and fitting, but it was missing something and I’m not sure what that was. Overall, a decent movie that you can enjoy but I’m unsure if you’d want to watch it more than once 😛 . Enjoy 🙂

I give this film 4 Stars out of 5!

Plus Merry Christmas 😀
