When I first saw this trailer I was so excited to watch this as I had heard so many good reviews 🙂 . It definitely did not disappoint 😀 . This is a great movie that explores the problems back in the 1960’s America and the amazing efforts these three women did for NASA. I had not heard of these women before this year and was amazed at how smart they were. The movie explored the appalling attitudes they had to deal with tastefully and made you feel great to be a woman (or feel great for them 😛 ) when they succeed. The outfits are great, the set fabulous and the background music (mixture of modern and classic) worked brilliantly for the film 🙂 . There are some epic lines that resonate throughout such as Mary’s when answering a question “I wouldn’t have to. I’d already be one” 🙂 . The court room was also a fabulous scene and loved it when Dorothy was walking down the corridor with all of her colleges (won’t say not more as I don’t want to spoil 😛 ). There are some emotional scenes as well and my favourite (emotional) scene was then Katherine had to justify her trip to the toilet. Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monáe were all fabulous as the leading women 😀 . I loved the ending and learning about what happened afterwards with these three women. A great movie for all who want to learn about the real people behind the Space Race (NASA) and the struggles they went through to succeed. I definitely recommend this movie for everyone (probably more for women then family 😛 ). Enjoy 😀
Hacksaw Ridge is a about a WWII American Army Medic that did the extraordinary. The story and how the director Mel Gibson, decided to shoot this movie is done quite fantastically 🙂 . It is compelling, entertaining, action packed and heart wrenching from start to finish 😀 . The beginning is slower than people might expect from a war movie but I enjoyed it and thought it was needed 🙂 . It helps us understand Desmond Doss (Andrew Garfield) and makes you hooked before the battle. The minute the “war” begins the action starts quickly. It is very intense and constant. It was an edge of your seat experience and the shocks were plentiful 🙂 . I was gutted when some characters died and the “gore” content was good. It was an acceptable amount. It showed what it was like without being too much for an audience to watch. I loved the lines “Please Lord, Help Me Get One More” and the awesome acting of Andrew Garfield 😀 . He performed Desmond wonderfully and you felt for him through his struggle before the war. The group of soldiers he was with were also good and I was laughing with them at the “introduction” near the beginning 🙂 . The angry moments that you may get for our main character is pushed aside by the time the movie ends. This will leave you awestruck and it has become one of my favourite war movies of all time 😀 . This movie you have to watch so therefore, I definitely recommend! Enjoy 😀 !
This is an entertaining enough film with a decent narrative. I liked the beginning as it throws you straight into the story and the action straight off 😀 . The plot line treads along quite well, builds the danger slowly but not in a boring way and ended fabulously! The section near the end (not the actual end scene) was one of my favourites in this movie 😀 !! It was shocking (admit a little cheesy) and finished the characters great. I liked all of the characters even Stormy (Addison Timlin) 😛 . They had great personalities and really worked for the story but I wished that some of the actors had performed that bit better. However, Anton Yelchin was brilliant as his role as Odd Thomas and so was Willem Dafoe as his father Chief Wyatt Porter 🙂 . I loved the look of the demons and how they helped build the story (hinting who might be in danger next 😛 ). I also liked the “dog chase scene” and I liked how he dealt with the ghosts (and how they disappeared). However, there are some things I would have liked exploring more (like the gateway to hell) and after that shocking near end scene it takes a kind of passive finish. Plus some parts are quite predicable. Overall, a solid and enjoyable film for anyone who liked ghost or fantasy movies 🙂 Enjoy 😀
The dramatised real life event of a sea rescue crew created by Disney 🙂 . It is a very good film 🙂 . It kept me very entertained, captivated and I really enjoyed it. The cast is pretty decent line up! Chris Pine, Eric Bana and Holly Grainger 🙂 . They act pretty well and suit the period. I liked the background music for this film and the graphics are great. What makes this film is the narrative. The first disaster with the ship breaking was very captivating and interesting. The suspense as the narrative continued was awesome and I was desperate for someone in the film to notice what had happened 😛 . It has an edge of your seat feel in parts of the narrative and the storm scenes were impressive. Quite honestly, the best part of this film begin with the ship being wrecked and all the scenes with the crew trying to survive / being rescued. The normal life scenes weren’t as good but overall the film is very entertaining. I liked the character of Ray Sybert (Casey Affleck) the best and I loved the ending including the end credits. A great film full of suspense, drama, shocking deaths and has a great nostalgic feel 🙂 . Enjoy 🙂
This is a true story of Solomon Northup who was forced to be a slave during the 19th century. I can’t deny this is a great film that explores the terrible truths that Soloman and many others had to deal with. The beginning of the film throws you straight into the action and starting off with a feeling of something bad straight away. This feeling gets worse at certain points which works for this film and some scenes (like the almost hanging scene) drag on far longer than needed. This creates an awesome film technique that makes the scenes almost uncomfortable to watch which makes your more empathetic to Solomon’s plight. There is a great cast within this film (Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender and Benedict Cumberbatch) and act brilliantly thought the work of Lupita Nyong’o and Chiwetel Ejiofor were stunning 😀 ! The ending sequence was the best part and made the film complete. 🙂 This is a film that is worth a watch even just once 🙂 . Enjoy 😀
This is a biographical film about the real events from the tem Spotlight who reported on the abuse hidden by the Catholic Church. This is one amazing film 😀 ! The cast is stunning; Mark Ruffalo, Michael Keaton, Rachel McAdams, Liev Schreiber and Brian d’Archy James, who created believable characters 😀 . I was captivated the entire way through the film which it is quite long but feels like it needs to be. The narrative itself should be a horror film with the events that happened to the victims but it works in a way that you are with Spotlight wanting them to succeed instead. It creates an authentic movie making you feel and understand the victims without overly depressing the audience. By all accounts this film about reporters and lawyers should be dull but personally I was quite gripped and was captivated 🙂 . There are plenty of great scenes in this film but I loved the ending which had a happy ending (ish) and ends so abruptly that you are left wanting more 🙂 ! A fantastic film that I seriously recommend! Enjoy 🙂
This a stunning legal drama movie based on real events / people. The fact it is based on real people is the captivating element of this film as you are so intrigued you forget it’s not completely fiction 😛 . The acting is superb within this film though the credit belongs to Tom Hanks as his performance is incredible 😀 . Also Mark Rylance (who plays Rudolf Abel) plays a fantastic supporting role 😀 . His last scene in the movie and his overall performance creates a charming character who you can sympathise with. The Exchange scene was my favourite part as it was so tense, dramatic and I really didn’t know how it would play out. The overall film references to historical events such as the Berlin Wall being built and the symbolism later on near the end of the film was pretty cool 😛 . All the characters introduced brought their own contribution to this movie and I wasn’t bored not even once 😛 . A stunning spy film / legal historic drama that I seriously recommend! Enjoy 😀 !
This is a truly great film that has to be watched at least once (everyone not just the ladies 😛 ). The acting is superb within this film, everyone suited the period and Cary Mulligan was excellent. She created a character that was liable, emotional, you could connect to her and she kept you captivated 🙂 . Helena Bonham Carter and the rest of the main female cast also created believable characters. The story, as much as parts of it are fictional (just around the character of Maud Watts), keeps true to real life and is harrowing. It is a shocker to see what happened, you want them to win and has emotional / surprising scenes. The film truly gets interesting when the suffragettes actually start to be “disobedient” and the ending is my favourite part 😀 . I liked how true the film directors were to the real incidents and the use of real footages. Parts of the film probably should have been more heart wrenching, captivating or focus on more as I did notice how long the film was. This would suggest that I wasn’t completely enthralled but the narrative and acting win highly with what they are highlighting. This film may not be everyone’s cup of tea (if you don’t like gritty period films) but I do recommend at least watching this once. Enjoy 😀 !
This film gave me everything I expected and surprisingly more 😛 . I was expecting a typical period drama about a marriage, problems, a love triangle and some political issue thrown in. The narrative as much as it wasn’t the most thrilling, actually kept me entertained and stayed rather interesting throughout. Keira Knightley was stunning within her performance as the Duchess of Devonshire and I do believe it is one of her best roles yet 😀 . There are some tough issues within this film but she created a character so likable / understandable that you want to keep watching until the end. Ralph Fiennes played a good role (even as a despicable character 😛 ), Hayley Atwell was great (even though her character was my least favourite ) and so was Dominic Cooper. The scenery was pretty good and the costumes helped create a believable period of history 😛 . I didn’t really have a favourite section but mostly Keira Knightley stole the show with her character’s strength and weakness creating some tragic (in a good way) scenes! A very good costume drama that I would recommend (if you like this genre 😛 ) . Enjoy 😀 !
