Justice League

Justice League (2017)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Fantasy

There has been some anticipation regarding the DC Cinematic Universe especially after the success of Wonder Woman (2017). The story ran well and I was fairly entertained from beginning until the end πŸ™‚ . The CGI is good and the fight scenes okay but the villain was not impressive. Not that he was terrible but he was certainly predictable and I had no fear he would win. Wonder Woman (Gal Godot) was great in her scenes (the suitcase scene was good) and her chemistry with Batman (Ben Affleck) was great πŸ˜€ . The Flash (Ezra Miller) was a good and almost funny character though I took a while to like him as I can still remember the Flash from the TV series πŸ˜› . The idea of the story was quite predictable which was disappointing as it made me wait as they inevitably find each other and work together. The twist (which you probably can guess from the trailers πŸ˜› ) was again predictable but at least how he came β€œback” was interesting. The jokes are not that funny (though some are passable πŸ˜› ) and Batman’s attitude towards Wonder Woman was annoying (when they are deciding what to do about the β€œTwist”). To be fair, this film is not terrible. It had some good elements, CGI is good and it was fairly good at continuing from the previous movies πŸ™‚ . I do wish it had held more surprises then what they showed us in trailers but I did appreciate the end credits which was great πŸ˜€ . I am glad to have watched it and would recommend this to any fan of the DC movies πŸ™‚ . Enjoy πŸ˜€

I give this film 3.5 Stars out of 5!

Jack the Giant Killer

Jack the Giant Killer (2013)

Genre: Action, Fantasy

A retelling of the classic β€œJack and the Beanstalk” story, but with all that B-Movie quality that you come to expect when you watch films from channels like Syfy πŸ™‚ .Β  The first thing I must say is that there are no giants in this at all!! Unless they mean the giants are the large weird looking dinosaur/elephant that just looks strange. The film tries to throw us into the story straight away and then flashback to the start but it does not come across great. It worried me as I saw the terrible CGI monsters from the start. The one good thing I would give this film was I liked the idea of what had become of Jack’s father which we learn early on πŸ™‚ . It was a nice twist and time difference that made his character one of the most interesting though that did not last long. The shame was they broke their own rule. Without trying to spoil much, they explained 1 day equals 1 year on earth time. Yet we see Jack there for some time (at least half a day) so surely at least 6 months should have passed? The acting is not great in this at all and I was really annoyed by the close ups to show emotion. The main villain (the Queen) became weak which was disappointing. The time that Earth should be set in was strange and confusing (it could be the 1950’s, older or earlier?) The deaths were boring and the killing of the monster was predictable and I think the film forgot about the other monsters (there was at least three that arrived on earth and I can only remember one dying). This film is so bad and terrible I would never recommend this movie and will never watch this again. Enjoy if you can πŸ˜›

I give this film 0.5 out of 5 Stars!

Albion: The Enchanted Stallion

Albion: The Enchanted Stallion (2016)

Genre: Adventure, Comedy, Family Film, Fantasy

I was not expected much from this movie as I had not heard much about it and decided to just give this film a chance. The best thing I can say about this film is that it is simply alright πŸ™‚ . The story was very predictable but pleasant enough and did keep me fairly entertained throughout. It is a lighthearted fantasy but enough to show you an entire magical world and I did enjoy the adventure style mission. The main character of Evie (Avery Arendes) I actually liked as we got to see her back story and situation plus she stayed true to character πŸ™‚ . Her other companions Eriu (Castille Landon) and LΓr (Daniel Sharman) were good too. They did looked very β€œB-Movie” with their costumes and as much as their characters were okay they were tad cheesy πŸ˜› . Most of the characters had a stereotypical feel to them and cheesiness affected the whole film but that could be a side effect of trying to create an entire fantasy world. The Horse was great and I really liked how Evie entered the world of Albion πŸ˜€ . I also really liked when they found The Abbess (Jennifer Morrison) and the character of Eremon (Liam McIntyre) was alright. I did liked the twist with who Evie’s parents are (as its predictability of this movie could have lead it a different way πŸ˜› ) but I wish the film had ended differently. John Cleese was hard to spot straight away as his character (General Eader) is so disgusting but I think he acted him well (as I think the disgusting thing is on purpose πŸ˜› ). Overall, this is a pleasant and fairly entertaining fantasy for the entire family of all ages πŸ™‚ . If you like child friendly fantasy adventure movies than this is for you πŸ™‚ . Enjoy πŸ˜€

The Green Mile

The Green Mile (1999)

Genre: Crime, Drama, Fantasy

This is a film that everyone needs to watch at least once in their lifetime and it is a classic πŸ˜€ . Its storyline is compelling, gripping and entertaining from start to finish plus mixes realism with magic perfectly πŸ™‚ . The story is dark (it is following the lives of death row guards) and does have some uncomfortable moments but it feels right for the atmosphere of the movie. I loved that the excellent performances from all the actors lead by Tom Hanks (Paul Edgecomb) and Michael Clarke Duncan (John Coffey) helped created so many different characters. I believed each character (some made me love them and some made me hate them πŸ˜› ) and each felt useful to the narrative. I loved the character of Eduard Delacroix (Michael Jeter) who was lovable and funny even if he was a death row inmate plus his exit scene is a shocker. The filming is clean and crisp plus the CGI on the β€œmagic” still works for this movie πŸ™‚ . John Coffey was an extremely likable and unique character and Paul Edgecomb (performed fabulously by Tom Hanks) was a main character you wanted to follow πŸ™‚ . Percy Wetmore was a perfectly horrid character who I believed (and hated πŸ˜› ) and Doug Hutchison performed him brilliantly. The movie also ends great as it leaves you questioning the experience Edgecomb saw while accepting a perfect end to a memorising movie. It is beautifully filmed, has a fantastic storyline with solid acting πŸ˜€ . This is a long movie (over 3 hours) but you really don’t notice πŸ˜› . I definitely recommend this movie if you like Stephen King book adaptations (as this is one) or Crime with a touch of Fantasy πŸ™‚ . Enjoy πŸ˜€

The Dark Tower

The Dark Tower (2017)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Fantasy

I have never read the books by Stephen King so I don’t know how faithful to the original this is and if any fans will enjoy this movie. However, coming to this film with no prior knowledge, I really loved this movie πŸ˜€ . I was gripped from the start, captivated throughout and loved the ending πŸ™‚ . My favourite person in this movie was Walter (Matthew McConaughey) πŸ˜€ . His performance was fabulous and his character was believable. Β He was awesome, strong, his magic great and was terrifyingly evil πŸ˜€ . Idris Elba played a very cool Gunslinger Roland who created an interesting character to follow. I also liked the main character of Jake (Tom Taylor) and his relationship with Roland πŸ™‚ . The other world was great and I liked the threat element of the demons. The pace was very good and action scenes were steadily placed (it felt right and I was not left wanting). The magic and hints to a darker world (such as the scene when Jake is attacked by the house) was very good and kept me guessing. There are a few deaths in this that are shocking and a great twist in the tale (won’t say who as don’t want to spoil πŸ˜› ). Plus in the final battle, I loved the cleverness of how the defeat was achieved. Overall, this was a great adventure fantasy for anyone who loves otherworldly movies πŸ™‚ . I would recommend this movie, would happily watch again and would love to watch another film if a sequel is ever made πŸ˜€ . Enjoy πŸ˜€

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Fantasy, Sci-Fi

I had not heard much of this before the first trailers but I was excited to see a new sci-fi movie πŸ™‚ . The story line is very entertaining and interesting throughout. The beginning was very captivating at the start and actually quite emotionally as well (when you see the scene you will know what I mean πŸ˜› ). The graphics and the overall visual world was absolutely amazing πŸ˜€ . It the way the β€œCity of a Thousand Planets” was created was very interesting to see and I loved how in each world I was immersed entirely. They flowed well and the β€œmissions” in the film were action packed and exciting to watch πŸ™‚ . The overall main storyline is a little predicable but I found it enjoyable enough to watch till the end. Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne were great as Valerian and Laureline. Their chemistry was a nice touch and very believable πŸ™‚ . All the cast was very good but the main two characters were the best. Rihanna was pretty decent as her character Bubble and I did enjoy her change outfits routine πŸ˜€ . However, her character was not as compelling as she could have been to make me care for her as much as her scene (you will know which one πŸ˜› ) wanted me too. The twist in the story is not a shocker but I did enjoy the ending πŸ™‚ . This is a really good sci-fi that I would happily watch again and I enjoyed its pleasant tale. I think it needs a pleasant story to start us off with this new world and the films which I am sure are to follow πŸ˜€ . This is worth the watch for anyone who loves Sci-fi and wanting something new πŸ™‚ . Enjoy πŸ˜€

Just Like Heaven

Just Like Heaven (2005)

Genre: Comedy, Fantasy, Romance

This is a very sweet romantic movie that is perfect for those lazy days watching with friends πŸ™‚ . This is a pleasant story to follow that is surprisingly very captivating from beginning to the end. There are a few emotional moments in this story that may not be as strong as others in this genre but it is enough. There are plenty of surprises and twists for this easy to follow storyline that help keep it entertaining πŸ™‚ . For example, I loved it when we learnt more about what may have happened to Elizabeth and how she is connected to David. The romance between Elizabeth (Reese Witherspoon) and David (Mark Ruffalo) is sweet, charming and believable πŸ™‚ . I loved their first meeting and how their animosity at the beginning was very comical. I especially loved the scene where Elizabeth is annoying David singing β€œTomorrow” πŸ™‚ . The addition of the psychic Darryl (Jon Heder) is fine and worked well with the story and Abby (Dina Spybey-Waters) was quite funny πŸ™‚ . I enjoyed the beginning scene which gives us a hint of what Elizabeth’s life was like and does introduce the tone of the movie well. Β I also loved the small addition of the magic /other worldly stuff such as the niece being more aware than normal (when you watch it you will know πŸ˜› ) . The ending is great and kind of has a fairytale feel to the overall movie. This story is a tad predicable near the end but I liked it originality at the beginning and reason for these characters to meet πŸ™‚ . Overall, this is a sweet, entertaining and fantastic movie that is great for anyone who loves romantic comedies with a touch of something different πŸ˜€ . Β I would recommend this movie and would happily watch again πŸ™‚ . Enjoy πŸ˜€

Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman (2017)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Fantasy

I have been looking forward to seeing this movie since we first saw Gal Gadot’s perform in Batman V. Superman. She did not disappoint and this has been my favourite DC movie so far πŸ˜€ . Finally, we have a new DC film that does not make me pull apart it narrative after I have watched it and I would look forward to watching again. The story had me captivated from beginning to the end and I really enjoyed seeing Wonder Woman fighting in World War 1. I know this may not be historically accurate and many people would have preferred her in World War 2 but I still very much enjoyed it and it worked for the narrative. Diana’s look was amazing and Gal Gadot’s portrayal of her was stunning, fierce and impressive plus I can’t wait to watch more of her πŸ˜€ . I liked the character of Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) as he was believable and endearing. I also liked the secretary Etta (Lucy Davis) as she was a charming addition the story πŸ™‚ . The film was funny, entertaining and did bring a tear to my eye (can’t say why as that would spoil πŸ˜› ). They told us stuff about her past, β€œwho she really is” and I though the mixing of her world (the Amazons) worked well with the World War story. My favourite scene has to be when Wonder Woman fights across No Man’s Land πŸ™‚ . Dr. Maru (Elena Anaya) looked terrifying though I feel we could have seen her defeated better. However, I loved the twist on who Ares truly was in this movie πŸ˜€ . I loved the relationship between Steve and Diana but I know it can’t last which is a shame. The look of the movie was great, I was captivated and was a worthy movie of Wonder Woman πŸ˜€ . I also found this movie to be less depressive then normal DC movies which I liked. I seriously recommend this movie πŸ˜€ . Enjoy πŸ™‚

The Mummy

The Mummy (2017)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Fantasy

There are many bad reviews from critics about this summer’s blockbuster but I really liked it πŸ™‚ . I found this story easy to follow (in a good way), I loved the Egyptian back story and I was entertained throughout. I really liked the Mummy Princess Ahmanet (Sofia Boutella) and her story plus the actress performed her great πŸ˜€ . She was scary, looked amazing and when she β€œreturns” her graphics as a Mummy were cool. I liked the CGI on the mummies and liked how she β€œturned” others, plus her first attack on the mortals in England was pretty cool πŸ™‚ . I liked the main character of Nick Morton (Tom Cruise) and he was a likable character to follow. Plus I really liked his flashbacks / imagination with the Princess which helped keep the story flowing πŸ™‚ . There are some big moments which are cool such as the plane crash, underwater mummies, and when the glass turns to sand in London. Β I also liked the β€œsecret company” that becomes involved as it hints to a possible other movie (even a series of movies) and gave a new element to the typical Egyptian mummy story. However, there are some rough edges to the tale and I do sense that they did try and shove too many tales without flowing properly. The action scenes aren’t the best so fans of action may feel disappointed. The weakest part for me was Jenny (Annabelle Wallis). She was great at first (I found her moment seeing the mummies with Nick in the church funny πŸ˜› ) but as she went on, she became irritable and not interesting. I did not care what happened to her and liked the Mummy better πŸ˜› . Though she is minor and you can still enjoy the movie πŸ™‚ . This is a really good movie that I would happily watch again but I am a little biased as I loved watching adventure movies involving Egyptian tales πŸ˜› . This is worth the watch and I can’t wait to see what comes next in the Dark Universe franchise πŸ˜€ Enjoy πŸ™‚

I give this film 4 Stars out of 5!
