The Santa Clause

The Santa Clause (1994)

Genre: Comedy, Drama, Family Film

This is a classic Christmas movie suitable for the entire family ๐Ÿ˜€ . The story itself is very entertaining and captivating from beginning to the end. The dialogue is witty and amusing which will create some laughter from you whether you are a child or an adult ๐Ÿ˜› . The idea of the story is unique โ€œThe Santa Clauseโ€ and how Scott Clavin is forced into this story. The effect he goes under is very funny and helps keep the story entertaining but light hearted too ๐Ÿ™‚ . I liked the North Pole world and the explanation for how Santa gets down the chimney (when you watch it you will know ๐Ÿ˜› ). The ending was sweet and the animation on the reindeers is not that bad, which makes it passable for the tale. Tim Allen as Scott Clavin is great and his costume as Santa Claus is awesome ๐Ÿ˜€ !! He is certainly the picture of Santa that you imagine ๐Ÿ˜› . Charlie (Eric Lloyd) is adorable and his relationship with his father is sweet. The elfโ€™s were good especially Judy (Paige Tamada) but personally, I was not a fan of Bernard (David Krumholtz) but you canโ€™t say his character is not memorable ๐Ÿ˜› . Laura Calvin Miller (Wendy Crewson) and Dr. Neil Miller (Judge Reinhold) are not good characters in this (work for the tale but not likable) but to be fair, I disliked the mother more. Letโ€™s just say she is not winning Mother of the Year awards from her actions in this movie ๐Ÿ˜› . ย Overall, a great Christmas movie for the entire family ๐Ÿ˜€ . Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜€

I give this film 4.5 Stars out of 5!

Wonder (2017)

Genre: Drama, Family Film

From the trailers I already knew this film was going to make me cry but I am glad it did ๐Ÿ˜€ . The story was sad but charming, lovely and actually very inspiring. Jacob Tremblay (Auggie Pullman) was amazing and made us feel this poor boyโ€™s pain of trying to survive school. The situation and the reactions around him makes you cry but also warm to his character ๐Ÿ™‚ . What I adored and what surprised me was that this story was not all about him! I was surprised but loved that we saw the narration and story switch to others in this movie ๐Ÿ™‚ . I liked learning about what Via (Izabela Vidovic) felt through all this and it made her one of my favourite characters ๐Ÿ˜€ . The acting was superb from everyone in this movie and the pace of film ran well ๐Ÿ™‚ . I was not bored at any point throughout and one of my favourite scenes was near the beginning when Auggie mentions the โ€œPunch-lineโ€ (I wonโ€™t say more as I donโ€™t want to spoil ๐Ÿ˜› ). I liked that the story did not run smoothly for the characters but I did not fear that I was going to get a depressive tale. The children and the acceptance from people was great to see later on and it made want to see another film (maybe of them older?) but I know that canโ€™t happen ๐Ÿ˜› . It was a great film that I would happily watch again, and I loved the idea and message of this tale plus I really need to read the book now ๐Ÿ˜› !! I am sure fans of this book will enjoy this adaptation and it is fabulous for all ages to watch ๐Ÿ™‚ . Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜€

I give this film 4.5 Stars out of 5!

The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3-D

The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3-D (2005)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Family Film

I did not watch this movie when I was a kid and I remember actively avoiding it as it did not seem intriguing. I should have listened to younger me as I sat through this film ๐Ÿ˜› . The filmโ€™s narrative is passable and will certainly be more suitable to young boys aged 8 and under. The set up was okay, the reason of how Sharkboy (Taylor Lautner) and Lavagirl (Taylor Dooley) were โ€œcreatedโ€ and the adventure in the drool world was fine ๐Ÿ™‚ . The CGI is extremely awful and I am unsure whether at the time of filming the aim to make this โ€œ3-Dโ€ played a part. Its CGI did not survive the passage of time and you have to bear with an awful villain and weak CGI battles. The dialogue is silly, cringe-worthy and not worth remembering. They relied heavily on slapstick which was not the most appealing plus why did they (the director) think that โ€œsongโ€ from Sharkboy was a good idea? The end is a happy one but not surprising as the movie is very predictable. How the parents were brought to Max (Cayden Boyd) at the end was cheesy and Max as a main character was not a good one. Plus I am not a big fan of the names on the Planet Drool (Drool bad enough) as they are trying too hard to be clever such as โ€œRiver of Consciousnessโ€. To be fair, this could have been good. The idea of Maxโ€™s villain, the connection to the real world and the adventures such as the ice kingdom were okay ๐Ÿ™‚ . But it was all laced in cheese, the writers could not make their mind up as to whether this was real or not and the acting was not great enough to pull us through. This movie is only good for young boys or anyone who loved it as a child ๐Ÿ™‚ . Personally, you can get away with never watching this ever ๐Ÿ˜› . Enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

I give this film 1 Star out of 5!

Albion: The Enchanted Stallion

Albion: The Enchanted Stallion (2016)

Genre: Adventure, Comedy, Family Film, Fantasy

I was not expected much from this movie as I had not heard much about it and decided to just give this film a chance. The best thing I can say about this film is that it is simply alright ๐Ÿ™‚ . The story was very predictable but pleasant enough and did keep me fairly entertained throughout. It is a lighthearted fantasy but enough to show you an entire magical world and I did enjoy the adventure style mission. The main character of Evie (Avery Arendes) I actually liked as we got to see her back story and situation plus she stayed true to character ๐Ÿ™‚ . Her other companions Eriu (Castille Landon) and Lรญr (Daniel Sharman) were good too. They did looked very โ€œB-Movieโ€ with their costumes and as much as their characters were okay they were tad cheesy ๐Ÿ˜› . Most of the characters had a stereotypical feel to them and cheesiness affected the whole film but that could be a side effect of trying to create an entire fantasy world. The Horse was great and I really liked how Evie entered the world of Albion ๐Ÿ˜€ . I also really liked when they found The Abbess (Jennifer Morrison) and the character of Eremon (Liam McIntyre) was alright. I did liked the twist with who Evieโ€™s parents are (as its predictability of this movie could have lead it a different way ๐Ÿ˜› ) but I wish the film had ended differently. John Cleese was hard to spot straight away as his character (General Eader) is so disgusting but I think he acted him well (as I think the disgusting thing is on purpose ๐Ÿ˜› ). Overall, this is a pleasant and fairly entertaining fantasy for the entire family of all ages ๐Ÿ™‚ . If you like child friendly fantasy adventure movies than this is for you ๐Ÿ™‚ . Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜€

I give this film 3.5 Stars out of 5!

The Guardian Brothers

The Guardian Brothers (2016)

Genre: Animation, Family Film

I was unsure what to expect from this animation that had originally been created and shown in China first. You do notice at times, especially Raindrop (Bella Thorne), her animation does not match up with her now English voice over which I tried to not to judge on (but it did become a tad irritable ๐Ÿ˜› ). Also, I found the animated dogs a little distracting as they acted too โ€œcartoonyโ€ compared to the world of the film. Apart from that, I liked this movie ๐Ÿ™‚ . I really liked the animation on everything else and the world of the Spirits ๐Ÿ˜€ ! It was very colourful, each character was different, the rules made clear to me and I really liked their designs ๐Ÿ™‚ . Bloom (Cristina Pucelli) was a very pretty design while Shen Tu (Dan Fogler) and Yu Lei (Edward Norton) had gold versions. The narrative itself is easy to follow but got more captivating as the film continued. I liked the set up as it explained the situation and made me understand why certain characters did as they did. The climatic threat was good, the daemon I liked (wonโ€™t say any more as I donโ€™t want to spoil ๐Ÿ˜› ) and the ending was sweet. I liked that we had two stories running along each other, one the soup shop and the other breaking the seals. I know there are many bad reviews on this as they found the dubbing a struggle. I do agree on the count of Raindrop as she sounded far too grown up for me to bear. And they never answer what happened to Bloom (when you watch you will see what I mean ๐Ÿ˜› )? However, as I continued and watched the story (rather than focus on the voicing) I found I enjoyed it but this maybe a marmite thing ๐Ÿ˜› . Plus who knows, the original (in Chinese) may have been better ๐Ÿ˜› . I say give this film a try if you like animation with a decent story concept, but I have to admit it is not the best in the world. Enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

Goodbye Christopher Robin

Goodbye Christopher Robin (2017)

Genre: Biography, Family Film, History

I was excited to see this biography film about the life of the author A.A.Milne who created Winnie the Pooh ๐Ÿ™‚ . I had expected this to be similar to โ€œSaving Mr. Banksโ€ which was an endearing film and was also about the author of a famous literary character. However, I tried not to judge this film on that and enjoyed this tale throughout ๐Ÿ™‚ . The scenery and costumes were great and I did feel captivated by their world ๐Ÿ˜€ . The acting was superb and I believed every single character especially Christopher Robin (Will Tilston) who was fabulous ๐Ÿ˜€ . The story throws to you straight into the worse part of this story at the beginning which leaves you on an edge of sorrow as you watch the rest (until the film catches back up with itself in the timeline). I loved the scene in the forest with Alan (Domhnall Gleeson) and Christopher Robin as his imagination with the snow was great ๐Ÿ™‚ . I even liked the post traumatic stress disorder Milne was suffering appear in the movie as it helped us understand his character more. Daphne (Margot Robbie) was hard to understand and she became my least favourite character. The film did not shy away from the hard issues Christopher endured and the narrative was very enlightening. I never knew that he had to go through this and found the film had more of a depressive feel than heart-warming. Though, during the World War 2 section I completely felt for Milne and it was a rather sad scene (when you watch you will know ๐Ÿ˜› ). This is an overall, great movie that is worth the watch but this maybe more suited to adults than for the whole family ๐Ÿ™‚ . Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜€

Strange Magic

Strange Magic (2015)

Genre: Animation, Adventure, Comedy, Family Film

I am a fan of animated films about romance and fantasy plus at times I donโ€™t mind cheesy films ๐Ÿ˜› . This started really good and had me quite captivated with its introduction. I liked the idea of the two sides (one good and one bad) and the animation was great ๐Ÿ™‚ . The CGI was fabulous and the look of the creatures was fantastic ๐Ÿ˜€ . My favourite creature was the Imp who was adorable and his reason for being in this film was worth it. I also loved the image of the fairies and their colours and I did appreciate the Bog King (Alan Cumming) not being pretty ๐Ÿ˜› . The story is very predictable from the beginning the story starts but I was willing to forgive this. However, by the time the story hit half way (about the time Marianne (Evan Rachel Wood) went to find her sister on her own) the story got gradually worse. The cheesiness became unbearable as it continued (and I was trying to stomach as much as I could) with no surprises in this narrative. The romance was fine but I preferred Dawnโ€™s (Meredith Anne Bull) and Sunnyโ€™s (Elijah Kelly) rather than the possibility of the main charactersโ€™. I found their โ€œromanceโ€ ridiculously too quick (it was barely a few hours maybe less) for True Love ๐Ÿ˜› . The songs are good and catchy (plus modern) but I found this film was over reliant on them. However, I did enjoy the scene when Dawn (when infected by the potions) sets her eyes on the first thing she sees ๐Ÿ˜› . This is an animation I enjoyed in the beginning and despised at the end. I would not recommend this. Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜›

I give this film 1.5 Stars out of 5!

Baby’s Day Out

Babyโ€™s Day Out (1994)

Genre: Adventure, Comedy, Crime, Family Film

A typical example of a classic 90โ€™s family movie that is surprisingly quite good ๐Ÿ™‚ . The story is very simple to follow but it is highly enjoyable for the entire family. The story is about a rich Baby Bink being taken by three kidnappers Eddie (Joe Mantegna), Norby (Joe Pantoliano) and Veeko (Brian Haley). The comedy in this film is slapstick humour but it does work ๐Ÿ™‚ . They go through hug, awkward and dangerous moments (such as jumping from buildings or climbing various scaffolds) but comes across hilariously. The baby is adorable and you want him to succeed throughout ๐Ÿ˜€ . I loved it more when the baby was just following his favourite book unintentionally rather than on purpose as the latter half of the film suggested. He has a charm that works as he avoids and makes his kidnappers struggle to catch him ๐Ÿ™‚ . As much as I loved the slapstick and 90โ€™s humour the โ€œattacksโ€ can get a little uncomfortable to watch, but as long as you donโ€™t take this film too serious then it is enjoyable. I personally loved the ending scene as it was very funny and I would not have minded a sequel from that hint ๐Ÿ˜› . Each of the problems are funny to see and the overall cuteness makes this movie highly entertaining and surprisingly captivating ๐Ÿ˜€ . A great family movie for all and I do recommend watching this movie at least once ๐Ÿ™‚ . Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜€

Despicable Me 3

Despicable Me 3 (2017)

Genre: Animation, Action, Adventure, Family Film

Another film from the Despicable Me franchise but this one is following Gru (Steve Carell) and his family unlike the Minions movie. Personally, I am glad we are following this family again as these character are what made this series along with the minions (not just Minions ๐Ÿ˜› ) . However, this movie is not spectacular as it could have been. Donโ€™t get me wrong this film is alright, almost great and is definitely a brilliant family film ๐Ÿ™‚ . Letโ€™s start with the positives. I loved the villain Balthazar Bratt (Trey Parker) who played his part in this narrative great, his reason for villain worked and his 80โ€™s look was fabulous ๐Ÿ˜€ . I loved his general 80โ€™s vibe and how his weapons were 80โ€™s items like a Rubik cube ๐Ÿ™‚ . The minions were funny in the prison especially with the freedom song ๐Ÿ˜› . I also liked the addition of Dru (Steve Carell) who slotted into the โ€œfamilyโ€ well and he became more likable as the story continued ๐Ÿ™‚ . He was charming and a fresh update that the family needed for this film ๐Ÿ™‚ . There were also sweet charming moments in this movie. ย Also the final battle was alright and entertaining plus I loved the ending scene with the “5 minute head startโ€ (I wonโ€™t hint no more as I donโ€™t want to spoil ๐Ÿ˜› ). However, the storyline was not the most original and was only fairly entertaining. The minions werenโ€™t as funny as they could have been and were not in it as much I was expecting them too. Iโ€™m not sure if that was a good thing and the general storylines felt like I was watching a television series episode with its individual sub plots. Though this film is still good enough for fans of Despicable Me, children, families and I did quite enjoy it ๐Ÿ™‚ . The film is not as great as the original but I think this is better than Minions ๐Ÿ™‚ Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜€
