A Christmas Prince

A Christmas Prince (2017)

Genre: Comedy, Romance

This new Christmas movie from Netflix had been recommended to me and almost everyone I knew had been watching this. So naturally I had to watch this movie this Christmas πŸ˜› . First off, this film is alright and pleasant to watch from beginning πŸ™‚ . The story was easy to follow and half way did have a surprising twist (about the Prince) that I did not see coming. The film is very predictable apart from that one twist (that I just hinted at πŸ˜› ) and is clichΓ©. Picture a typical romance movie involving a struggling working class girl and a handsome prince and you will probably know most of this tale already. Also when you work with clichΓ© then expect cheesiness in some of the scenes and dialogue. The romance and characters of Amber (Rose McIver) and Prince Richard (Ben Lamb) was good and believable enough for the story πŸ™‚ . The best character and best acting came from Honor Kneafsey as the Princess Emily πŸ˜€ . It was a pleasant enough story that is perfect for a family movie though it is not the best out there. It does what it says on the tin…it’s a Christmas romance film. The story can keep you entertained and good romance for those romance fans πŸ˜€ . Plus the outfits and set were pretty good too. It’s worth a watch for anyone looking for a light hearted Christmas themed romance πŸ™‚ . I quite liked it but I know this is not going to be everyone’s cup of tea πŸ˜› . Enjoy πŸ˜€

I give this film 2.5 Stars out of 5!

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Comedy

I recently got to see this movie in a preview and was extremely excited to see this sequel to one of my favourite childhood films of all time. I was so happy to not be disappointed, surprised and was captivated from beginning to the end πŸ˜€ . I loved all the characters in this film especially the character of Bethany (Madison Iseman and Jack Black) πŸ™‚ . She surprised me as a character (I liked her more than I thought I would) and Jack Black was hilarious as a teenage girl πŸ˜› . Nick Jonas was also a great addition and his character of Alex was very intriguing for the story. My favourite avatar characters were Dr. Smolder Bravestone (Dwayne Johnson) and Ruby Roundhouse (Karen Gillan) especially their skill set in the game πŸ˜› . The story was strong and entertaining plus the comedy element in this movie was high. I was laughing throughout and liked all characters though Fridge (Ser’Darius Blain and Kevin Hart) was my least favourite (though his character got better later on πŸ˜› ). I liked how the game changed, I loved the world inside the game plus the CGI was very good. I also adored that they had not forgotten the original movie by adding a reference now and then. The action scenes were great especially the scene with the helicopter πŸ˜€ . I was very happy with this movie and it did exactly what it said it would do from the trailers. This is a great sequel for any original Jumanji fan and I cannot wait to watch this movie again πŸ™‚ . Enjoy πŸ˜€

A Bad Moms Christmas

A Bad Moms Christmas (2017)

Genre: Adventure, Comedy

I surprisingly loved the first Bad Moms (2016) movie and was looking forward to being entertained by its sequel πŸ™‚ . However, as much as this story is okay, it disappointed me by being a typical not-as-good-as-the-original sequel. The main three actresses (Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell and Kathryn Hahn) are back and played their characters well πŸ™‚ . This did make this film feel like a continuing flow from the first film which is good. The story was passable to watch but this time I lost what was great about the original. The reason the girls decided to be Bad Moms was not as strong a reason as the first, and their mothers were awful. Which is to be expected (as that is the reason for this movie πŸ˜› ) and I did not mind them being terrible personalities. However, I did not like the preach from the councillor to Kiki (when you watch you will know πŸ˜› ) and that the overall resolution between mother and daughter was such a easy fix for all of them. The jokes are a tad too much now, too rude that it was too awkward (for me, some seemed okay with this level of rude comedy) for me to enjoy. Β I did find the joke in the spa about the butt wax amusing and the dance section in credits okay (though most humour not great here) πŸ™‚ . I am glad to have watched this film but I found it a shame its quality was not on par. I think this (since the release of the two films being just a year apart) has been rushed to try and gain popularity just because of Christmas πŸ˜› . I hope there is another sequel with a strong story if they (directors) give it time to think up a better script. I am not sure if I would recommend this but if another film does turn up, then watching this may have to be done if you were a fan of Bad Moms πŸ˜› . Enjoy πŸ™‚

ParaNorman

ParaNorman (2012)

Genre: Animation, Adventure, Comedy

This is a movie about a strange boy who has to save his town when zombies appear. You can probably guess how this movie will end but if you prepare for predictability, you will be surprised πŸ˜› . The narrative was entertaining, captivating enough to keep you watching and was clever as it revealed more about the witch πŸ™‚ . I loved the beginning section of this film as it threw us into the story while introducing Norman’s gift. The humour is a good and consistent level throughout. The stop motion CGI was executed well and made it appealing to watch πŸ™‚ . What I really liked about this movie was that its script (narrative) was appealing to both children who it’s aimed for and adults. The comedy in this film takes away any scariness (though it is a children’s movie so I wasn’t expecting any πŸ˜› ). The twist with who the witch is was a nice touch and made you change your opinions of characters as the film continued. I liked the zombies and how the town becomes taken over (trying not to spoil πŸ˜› ) and my favourite comedy element was the vending machine moments πŸ˜€ . Norman (Kodi Smit-McPhee) was a good character to follow as he was likable even if a little weird. The pace of the movie ran smoothly which helps to keep you captivated from beginning to end πŸ™‚ . Plus any fan of horror may see some references or chuckle at the jokes about the genre in this film. This is a surprisingly great family film that is suitable for all ages and I definitely recommend πŸ™‚ . Enjoy πŸ˜€

Albion: The Enchanted Stallion

Albion: The Enchanted Stallion (2016)

Genre: Adventure, Comedy, Family Film, Fantasy

I was not expected much from this movie as I had not heard much about it and decided to just give this film a chance. The best thing I can say about this film is that it is simply alright πŸ™‚ . The story was very predictable but pleasant enough and did keep me fairly entertained throughout. It is a lighthearted fantasy but enough to show you an entire magical world and I did enjoy the adventure style mission. The main character of Evie (Avery Arendes) I actually liked as we got to see her back story and situation plus she stayed true to character πŸ™‚ . Her other companions Eriu (Castille Landon) and LΓr (Daniel Sharman) were good too. They did looked very β€œB-Movie” with their costumes and as much as their characters were okay they were tad cheesy πŸ˜› . Most of the characters had a stereotypical feel to them and cheesiness affected the whole film but that could be a side effect of trying to create an entire fantasy world. The Horse was great and I really liked how Evie entered the world of Albion πŸ˜€ . I also really liked when they found The Abbess (Jennifer Morrison) and the character of Eremon (Liam McIntyre) was alright. I did liked the twist with who Evie’s parents are (as its predictability of this movie could have lead it a different way πŸ˜› ) but I wish the film had ended differently. John Cleese was hard to spot straight away as his character (General Eader) is so disgusting but I think he acted him well (as I think the disgusting thing is on purpose πŸ˜› ). Overall, this is a pleasant and fairly entertaining fantasy for the entire family of all ages πŸ™‚ . If you like child friendly fantasy adventure movies than this is for you πŸ™‚ . Enjoy πŸ˜€

Thor: Ragnarok

Thor: Ragnarok (2017)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Comedy, Marvel

I was so excited to see this newest edition to the Thor movies and this one is the best so far πŸ˜€ . The story matched the expectation while also keeping you surprised (it is not predicable πŸ˜› ). The pace was very good especially for the fact, this film is the shortest in length and you did not feel it at all. I felt like I was thrown into the action (in a good way πŸ˜› ) and I did not have to wait before I was shown the next. The main cast that you expect, such as Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Loki (Tom Hiddleston) were great πŸ˜€ . I loved the additions of other Marvel characters into this movie πŸ™‚ . The scene with Dr. Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and the way he treated the two brothers I adored and comedy of this movie was well placed πŸ™‚ . The colour scheme and the neon 80’s feel made this film quite unique and very entertaining to watch the entire movie. The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) was amazing in this film and we saw the most of his character than ever before which made him funnier and adorable πŸ˜€ . I really liked the character of Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) as for once there is a female (good) character in a Thor movie that I don’t hate πŸ˜› . They gave us enough of her character to understand without overpowering the Thor narrative. The villain Hela, is the strongest in the Asgard world that I have seen and Cate Blanchett was impressive. This is the best Thor movie I have seen so far and I cannot wait to watch this again or see another sequel πŸ˜› . I definitely recommend this film to any Marvel Fan πŸ˜€ . Enjoy πŸ™‚

The Lady in the Van

The Lady in the Van (2015)

Genre:Β  Biography, Comedy, Drama

I had been recommended this movie by a few people and I was ready to be impressed by this β€œmostly” biographical film πŸ˜› . No one can be disappointed by Maggie Smith as Miss Shepherd because she performed great and created a believable character πŸ™‚ . To be fair, she was not the most likable character in this, but I could withstand it to watch this movie. Alan Bennett portrayed by Alex Jennings, was my favourite character as he was easy to follow and to like πŸ™‚ . I also loved that there are β€œtwo” Alan Bennett’s in this movie who talk to each other and narrated along with us πŸ˜€ . When we did get to know the β€œtwist” and reason for Miss Shepherd’s situation (which is hinted at in the beginning) was good. It was interesting as we found the answer with Alan Bennett plus the relationship between the two characters (Miss Shepherd and Bennett) was charming πŸ™‚ . Β The story is mostly okay and does keep you fairly entertained. I do believe this is more of a β€œmarmite” type of film as I was not the most impressed as I know others have been. I found some parts too tedious and I was not entirely entertained. Though there are touching moments and as much as her character was unlikable, the film would not be as good as it was without Maggie Smith πŸ˜› . This is an alright movie if you are a fan of Alan Bennett, Maggie Smith or British comedy biographical movies. I don’t know if I would watch this again but I may recommend πŸ™‚ . Enjoy πŸ˜€

Mr. Peabody & Sherman

Mr. Peabody & Sherman (2014)

Genre: Animation, Adventure, Comedy

I had not seen the retro cartoon series about Mr. Peabody & Sherman so I am unsure whether this has stayed loyal to the original or has offended original fans. However, for me I found this a very entertaining movie that had me captivated from beginning to the end πŸ™‚ . The characters they introduced were all likeable; Mr. Peabody (Ty Burrell), Sherman (Max Charles) and Penny (Ariel Winter). The animation was also very good πŸ˜€ . I really enjoyed the storyline as it was well thought-out with plenty of humour as well as some issues suitable for children. The comedy made me laugh but I did appreciate the rift between the characters. We saw how Sherman struggled at school at the beginning and how he clashes with his dad as the movie continues (you will see when you watch it πŸ˜› ). I liked the characters we met through history as it made playful jokes but was smart with storyline to not be too ridiculous πŸ˜› . This is a rather unique story that can be seen as predicable but I don’t think so. It is aimed for the family and I think both children and adults can be entertained by this movie from Dreamworks πŸ™‚ . I also found Odysseus’ reaction to a certain character at the end was very funny (won’t say which character as that would spoil πŸ˜› ). Overall, this is a great movie that I would happily watch again and would recommend πŸ˜€ . Enjoy πŸ™‚

Strange Magic

Strange Magic (2015)

Genre: Animation, Adventure, Comedy, Family Film

I am a fan of animated films about romance and fantasy plus at times I don’t mind cheesy films πŸ˜› . This started really good and had me quite captivated with its introduction. I liked the idea of the two sides (one good and one bad) and the animation was great πŸ™‚ . The CGI was fabulous and the look of the creatures was fantastic πŸ˜€ . My favourite creature was the Imp who was adorable and his reason for being in this film was worth it. I also loved the image of the fairies and their colours and I did appreciate the Bog King (Alan Cumming) not being pretty πŸ˜› . The story is very predictable from the beginning the story starts but I was willing to forgive this. However, by the time the story hit half way (about the time Marianne (Evan Rachel Wood) went to find her sister on her own) the story got gradually worse. The cheesiness became unbearable as it continued (and I was trying to stomach as much as I could) with no surprises in this narrative. The romance was fine but I preferred Dawn’s (Meredith Anne Bull) and Sunny’s (Elijah Kelly) rather than the possibility of the main characters’. I found their β€œromance” ridiculously too quick (it was barely a few hours maybe less) for True Love πŸ˜› . The songs are good and catchy (plus modern) but I found this film was over reliant on them. However, I did enjoy the scene when Dawn (when infected by the potions) sets her eyes on the first thing she sees πŸ˜› . This is an animation I enjoyed in the beginning and despised at the end. I would not recommend this. Enjoy πŸ˜›

I give this film 1.5 Stars out of 5!
