Justice League

Justice League (2017)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Fantasy

There has been some anticipation regarding the DC Cinematic Universe especially after the success of Wonder Woman (2017). The story ran well and I was fairly entertained from beginning until the end ๐Ÿ™‚ . The CGI is good and the fight scenes okay but the villain was not impressive. Not that he was terrible but he was certainly predictable and I had no fear he would win. Wonder Woman (Gal Godot) was great in her scenes (the suitcase scene was good) and her chemistry with Batman (Ben Affleck) was great ๐Ÿ˜€ . The Flash (Ezra Miller) was a good and almost funny character though I took a while to like him as I can still remember the Flash from the TV series ๐Ÿ˜› . The idea of the story was quite predictable which was disappointing as it made me wait as they inevitably find each other and work together. The twist (which you probably can guess from the trailers ๐Ÿ˜› ) was again predictable but at least how he came โ€œbackโ€ was interesting. The jokes are not that funny (though some are passable ๐Ÿ˜› ) and Batmanโ€™s attitude towards Wonder Woman was annoying (when they are deciding what to do about the โ€œTwistโ€). To be fair, this film is not terrible. It had some good elements, CGI is good and it was fairly good at continuing from the previous movies ๐Ÿ™‚ . I do wish it had held more surprises then what they showed us in trailers but I did appreciate the end credits which was great ๐Ÿ˜€ . I am glad to have watched it and would recommend this to any fan of the DC movies ๐Ÿ™‚ . Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜€

I give this film 3.5 Stars out of 5!

A Bad Moms Christmas

A Bad Moms Christmas (2017)

Genre: Adventure, Comedy

I surprisingly loved the first Bad Moms (2016) movie and was looking forward to being entertained by its sequel ๐Ÿ™‚ . However, as much as this story is okay, it disappointed me by being a typical not-as-good-as-the-original sequel. The main three actresses (Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell and Kathryn Hahn) are back and played their characters well ๐Ÿ™‚ . This did make this film feel like a continuing flow from the first film which is good. The story was passable to watch but this time I lost what was great about the original. The reason the girls decided to be Bad Moms was not as strong a reason as the first, and their mothers were awful. Which is to be expected (as that is the reason for this movie ๐Ÿ˜› ) and I did not mind them being terrible personalities. However, I did not like the preach from the councillor to Kiki (when you watch you will know ๐Ÿ˜› ) and that the overall resolution between mother and daughter was such a easy fix for all of them. The jokes are a tad too much now, too rude that it was too awkward (for me, some seemed okay with this level of rude comedy) for me to enjoy. ย I did find the joke in the spa about the butt wax amusing and the dance section in credits okay (though most humour not great here) ๐Ÿ™‚ . I am glad to have watched this film but I found it a shame its quality was not on par. I think this (since the release of the two films being just a year apart) has been rushed to try and gain popularity just because of Christmas ๐Ÿ˜› . I hope there is another sequel with a strong story if they (directors) give it time to think up a better script. I am not sure if I would recommend this but if another film does turn up, then watching this may have to be done if you were a fan of Bad Moms ๐Ÿ˜› . Enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

I give this film 2.5 Stars out of 5!

ParaNorman

ParaNorman (2012)

Genre: Animation, Adventure, Comedy

This is a movie about a strange boy who has to save his town when zombies appear. You can probably guess how this movie will end but if you prepare for predictability, you will be surprised ๐Ÿ˜› . The narrative was entertaining, captivating enough to keep you watching and was clever as it revealed more about the witch ๐Ÿ™‚ . I loved the beginning section of this film as it threw us into the story while introducing Normanโ€™s gift. The humour is a good and consistent level throughout. The stop motion CGI was executed well and made it appealing to watch ๐Ÿ™‚ . What I really liked about this movie was that its script (narrative) was appealing to both children who itโ€™s aimed for and adults. The comedy in this film takes away any scariness (though it is a childrenโ€™s movie so I wasnโ€™t expecting any ๐Ÿ˜› ). The twist with who the witch is was a nice touch and made you change your opinions of characters as the film continued. I liked the zombies and how the town becomes taken over (trying not to spoil ๐Ÿ˜› ) and my favourite comedy element was the vending machine moments ๐Ÿ˜€ . Norman (Kodi Smit-McPhee) was a good character to follow as he was likable even if a little weird. The pace of the movie ran smoothly which helps to keep you captivated from beginning to end ๐Ÿ™‚ . Plus any fan of horror may see some references or chuckle at the jokes about the genre in this film. This is a surprisingly great family film that is suitable for all ages and I definitely recommend ๐Ÿ™‚ . Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜€

I give this film 4 Stars out of 5!

The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3-D

The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3-D (2005)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Family Film

I did not watch this movie when I was a kid and I remember actively avoiding it as it did not seem intriguing. I should have listened to younger me as I sat through this film ๐Ÿ˜› . The filmโ€™s narrative is passable and will certainly be more suitable to young boys aged 8 and under. The set up was okay, the reason of how Sharkboy (Taylor Lautner) and Lavagirl (Taylor Dooley) were โ€œcreatedโ€ and the adventure in the drool world was fine ๐Ÿ™‚ . The CGI is extremely awful and I am unsure whether at the time of filming the aim to make this โ€œ3-Dโ€ played a part. Its CGI did not survive the passage of time and you have to bear with an awful villain and weak CGI battles. The dialogue is silly, cringe-worthy and not worth remembering. They relied heavily on slapstick which was not the most appealing plus why did they (the director) think that โ€œsongโ€ from Sharkboy was a good idea? The end is a happy one but not surprising as the movie is very predictable. How the parents were brought to Max (Cayden Boyd) at the end was cheesy and Max as a main character was not a good one. Plus I am not a big fan of the names on the Planet Drool (Drool bad enough) as they are trying too hard to be clever such as โ€œRiver of Consciousnessโ€. To be fair, this could have been good. The idea of Maxโ€™s villain, the connection to the real world and the adventures such as the ice kingdom were okay ๐Ÿ™‚ . But it was all laced in cheese, the writers could not make their mind up as to whether this was real or not and the acting was not great enough to pull us through. This movie is only good for young boys or anyone who loved it as a child ๐Ÿ™‚ . Personally, you can get away with never watching this ever ๐Ÿ˜› . Enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

I give this film 1 Star out of 5!

Death Note

Death Note (2017)

Genre: Adventure, Crime, Drama

Well first things first, if you were a fan or loved the Manga or anime than you arenโ€™t going to like this movie. Itโ€™s not terrible but it is no match or worth comparison to the original series. However, I will try to review it as something different (as I may be biased as I did like the original series ๐Ÿ˜› ) as it is not Japanese, the characters names changed (Turner instead of Yagami) and is set in America. Itโ€™s alright and the graphics (especially on Ryuk) is great ๐Ÿ˜€ . When Light first uses of the book; that is the most entertaining section along with the Ferris wheel was really different (from series) and cool ๐Ÿ™‚ . Light Turner (Nat Wolff) was alright (I really loved his scream reaction from Ryuk as that was funny ๐Ÿ˜› ) but it was strange. You try to watch it without thinking of the series but it is hard as they kept the premise, Shinigamiโ€™s, character names and roles yet they changed it too. The character I disliked the most was L (Lakeith Stanfield). He was so annoying and so dislikeable in how he โ€œtried to be a smart detectiveโ€ that I really wanted Light to win. The main problem of this movie is that the pace is really fast which does not work in favour of the narrative. It was so rushed that I donโ€™t think we were given enough chance to care for the characters (especially the ones we were supposed too ๐Ÿ˜› ). However, saying that, the new sections make this film good and itโ€™s not the worst thing I have ever seen ๐Ÿ˜› . The deaths were gruesome, the show watchable and overall alright to watch ๐Ÿ™‚ . I would not recommend if you loved the original series but if you have never known of Death Note before then itโ€™s alright ๐Ÿ˜› . Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜€

Albion: The Enchanted Stallion

Albion: The Enchanted Stallion (2016)

Genre: Adventure, Comedy, Family Film, Fantasy

I was not expected much from this movie as I had not heard much about it and decided to just give this film a chance. The best thing I can say about this film is that it is simply alright ๐Ÿ™‚ . The story was very predictable but pleasant enough and did keep me fairly entertained throughout. It is a lighthearted fantasy but enough to show you an entire magical world and I did enjoy the adventure style mission. The main character of Evie (Avery Arendes) I actually liked as we got to see her back story and situation plus she stayed true to character ๐Ÿ™‚ . Her other companions Eriu (Castille Landon) and Lรญr (Daniel Sharman) were good too. They did looked very โ€œB-Movieโ€ with their costumes and as much as their characters were okay they were tad cheesy ๐Ÿ˜› . Most of the characters had a stereotypical feel to them and cheesiness affected the whole film but that could be a side effect of trying to create an entire fantasy world. The Horse was great and I really liked how Evie entered the world of Albion ๐Ÿ˜€ . I also really liked when they found The Abbess (Jennifer Morrison) and the character of Eremon (Liam McIntyre) was alright. I did liked the twist with who Evieโ€™s parents are (as its predictability of this movie could have lead it a different way ๐Ÿ˜› ) but I wish the film had ended differently. John Cleese was hard to spot straight away as his character (General Eader) is so disgusting but I think he acted him well (as I think the disgusting thing is on purpose ๐Ÿ˜› ). Overall, this is a pleasant and fairly entertaining fantasy for the entire family of all ages ๐Ÿ™‚ . If you like child friendly fantasy adventure movies than this is for you ๐Ÿ™‚ . Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜€

Thor: Ragnarok

Thor: Ragnarok (2017)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Comedy, Marvel

I was so excited to see this newest edition to the Thor movies and this one is the best so far ๐Ÿ˜€ . The story matched the expectation while also keeping you surprised (it is not predicable ๐Ÿ˜› ). The pace was very good especially for the fact, this film is the shortest in length and you did not feel it at all. I felt like I was thrown into the action (in a good way ๐Ÿ˜› ) and I did not have to wait before I was shown the next. The main cast that you expect, such as Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Loki (Tom Hiddleston) were great ๐Ÿ˜€ . I loved the additions of other Marvel characters into this movie ๐Ÿ™‚ . The scene with Dr. Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and the way he treated the two brothers I adored and comedy of this movie was well placed ๐Ÿ™‚ . The colour scheme and the neon 80โ€™s feel made this film quite unique and very entertaining to watch the entire movie. The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) was amazing in this film and we saw the most of his character than ever before which made him funnier and adorable ๐Ÿ˜€ . I really liked the character of Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) as for once there is a female (good) character in a Thor movie that I donโ€™t hate ๐Ÿ˜› . They gave us enough of her character to understand without overpowering the Thor narrative. The villain Hela, is the strongest in the Asgard world that I have seen and Cate Blanchett was impressive. This is the best Thor movie I have seen so far and I cannot wait to watch this again or see another sequel ๐Ÿ˜› . I definitely recommend this film to any Marvel Fan ๐Ÿ˜€ . Enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

Mr. Peabody & Sherman

Mr. Peabody & Sherman (2014)

Genre: Animation, Adventure, Comedy

I had not seen the retro cartoon series about Mr. Peabody & Sherman so I am unsure whether this has stayed loyal to the original or has offended original fans. However, for me I found this a very entertaining movie that had me captivated from beginning to the end ๐Ÿ™‚ . The characters they introduced were all likeable; Mr. Peabody (Ty Burrell), Sherman (Max Charles) and Penny (Ariel Winter). The animation was also very good ๐Ÿ˜€ . I really enjoyed the storyline as it was well thought-out with plenty of humour as well as some issues suitable for children. The comedy made me laugh but I did appreciate the rift between the characters. We saw how Sherman struggled at school at the beginning and how he clashes with his dad as the movie continues (you will see when you watch it ๐Ÿ˜› ). I liked the characters we met through history as it made playful jokes but was smart with storyline to not be too ridiculous ๐Ÿ˜› . This is a rather unique story that can be seen as predicable but I donโ€™t think so. It is aimed for the family and I think both children and adults can be entertained by this movie from Dreamworks ๐Ÿ™‚ . I also found Odysseusโ€™ reaction to a certain character at the end was very funny (wonโ€™t say which character as that would spoil ๐Ÿ˜› ). Overall, this is a great movie that I would happily watch again and would recommend ๐Ÿ˜€ . Enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

Strange Magic

Strange Magic (2015)

Genre: Animation, Adventure, Comedy, Family Film

I am a fan of animated films about romance and fantasy plus at times I donโ€™t mind cheesy films ๐Ÿ˜› . This started really good and had me quite captivated with its introduction. I liked the idea of the two sides (one good and one bad) and the animation was great ๐Ÿ™‚ . The CGI was fabulous and the look of the creatures was fantastic ๐Ÿ˜€ . My favourite creature was the Imp who was adorable and his reason for being in this film was worth it. I also loved the image of the fairies and their colours and I did appreciate the Bog King (Alan Cumming) not being pretty ๐Ÿ˜› . The story is very predictable from the beginning the story starts but I was willing to forgive this. However, by the time the story hit half way (about the time Marianne (Evan Rachel Wood) went to find her sister on her own) the story got gradually worse. The cheesiness became unbearable as it continued (and I was trying to stomach as much as I could) with no surprises in this narrative. The romance was fine but I preferred Dawnโ€™s (Meredith Anne Bull) and Sunnyโ€™s (Elijah Kelly) rather than the possibility of the main charactersโ€™. I found their โ€œromanceโ€ ridiculously too quick (it was barely a few hours maybe less) for True Love ๐Ÿ˜› . The songs are good and catchy (plus modern) but I found this film was over reliant on them. However, I did enjoy the scene when Dawn (when infected by the potions) sets her eyes on the first thing she sees ๐Ÿ˜› . This is an animation I enjoyed in the beginning and despised at the end. I would not recommend this. Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜›

I give this film 1.5 Stars out of 5!
