Justice League

Justice League (2017)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Fantasy

There has been some anticipation regarding the DC Cinematic Universe especially after the success of Wonder Woman (2017). The story ran well and I was fairly entertained from beginning until the end 🙂 . The CGI is good and the fight scenes okay but the villain was not impressive. Not that he was terrible but he was certainly predictable and I had no fear he would win. Wonder Woman (Gal Godot) was great in her scenes (the suitcase scene was good) and her chemistry with Batman (Ben Affleck) was great 😀 . The Flash (Ezra Miller) was a good and almost funny character though I took a while to like him as I can still remember the Flash from the TV series 😛 . The idea of the story was quite predictable which was disappointing as it made me wait as they inevitably find each other and work together. The twist (which you probably can guess from the trailers 😛 ) was again predictable but at least how he came “back” was interesting. The jokes are not that funny (though some are passable 😛 ) and Batman’s attitude towards Wonder Woman was annoying (when they are deciding what to do about the “Twist”). To be fair, this film is not terrible. It had some good elements, CGI is good and it was fairly good at continuing from the previous movies 🙂 . I do wish it had held more surprises then what they showed us in trailers but I did appreciate the end credits which was great 😀 . I am glad to have watched it and would recommend this to any fan of the DC movies 🙂 . Enjoy 😀

I give this film 3.5 Stars out of 5!

Jack the Giant Killer

Jack the Giant Killer (2013)

Genre: Action, Fantasy

A retelling of the classic “Jack and the Beanstalk” story, but with all that B-Movie quality that you come to expect when you watch films from channels like Syfy 🙂 .  The first thing I must say is that there are no giants in this at all!! Unless they mean the giants are the large weird looking dinosaur/elephant that just looks strange. The film tries to throw us into the story straight away and then flashback to the start but it does not come across great. It worried me as I saw the terrible CGI monsters from the start. The one good thing I would give this film was I liked the idea of what had become of Jack’s father which we learn early on 🙂 . It was a nice twist and time difference that made his character one of the most interesting though that did not last long. The shame was they broke their own rule. Without trying to spoil much, they explained 1 day equals 1 year on earth time. Yet we see Jack there for some time (at least half a day) so surely at least 6 months should have passed? The acting is not great in this at all and I was really annoyed by the close ups to show emotion. The main villain (the Queen) became weak which was disappointing. The time that Earth should be set in was strange and confusing (it could be the 1950’s, older or earlier?) The deaths were boring and the killing of the monster was predictable and I think the film forgot about the other monsters (there was at least three that arrived on earth and I can only remember one dying). This film is so bad and terrible I would never recommend this movie and will never watch this again. Enjoy if you can 😛

I give this film 0.5 out of 5 Stars!

The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3-D

The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3-D (2005)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Family Film

I did not watch this movie when I was a kid and I remember actively avoiding it as it did not seem intriguing. I should have listened to younger me as I sat through this film 😛 . The film’s narrative is passable and will certainly be more suitable to young boys aged 8 and under. The set up was okay, the reason of how Sharkboy (Taylor Lautner) and Lavagirl (Taylor Dooley) were “created” and the adventure in the drool world was fine 🙂 . The CGI is extremely awful and I am unsure whether at the time of filming the aim to make this “3-D” played a part. Its CGI did not survive the passage of time and you have to bear with an awful villain and weak CGI battles. The dialogue is silly, cringe-worthy and not worth remembering. They relied heavily on slapstick which was not the most appealing plus why did they (the director) think that “song” from Sharkboy was a good idea? The end is a happy one but not surprising as the movie is very predictable. How the parents were brought to Max (Cayden Boyd) at the end was cheesy and Max as a main character was not a good one. Plus I am not a big fan of the names on the Planet Drool (Drool bad enough) as they are trying too hard to be clever such as “River of Consciousness”. To be fair, this could have been good. The idea of Max’s villain, the connection to the real world and the adventures such as the ice kingdom were okay 🙂 . But it was all laced in cheese, the writers could not make their mind up as to whether this was real or not and the acting was not great enough to pull us through. This movie is only good for young boys or anyone who loved it as a child 🙂 . Personally, you can get away with never watching this ever 😛 . Enjoy 🙂

I give this film 1 Star out of 5!

Thor: Ragnarok

Thor: Ragnarok (2017)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Comedy, Marvel

I was so excited to see this newest edition to the Thor movies and this one is the best so far 😀 . The story matched the expectation while also keeping you surprised (it is not predicable 😛 ). The pace was very good especially for the fact, this film is the shortest in length and you did not feel it at all. I felt like I was thrown into the action (in a good way 😛 ) and I did not have to wait before I was shown the next. The main cast that you expect, such as Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Loki (Tom Hiddleston) were great 😀 . I loved the additions of other Marvel characters into this movie 🙂 . The scene with Dr. Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and the way he treated the two brothers I adored and comedy of this movie was well placed 🙂 . The colour scheme and the neon 80’s feel made this film quite unique and very entertaining to watch the entire movie. The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) was amazing in this film and we saw the most of his character than ever before which made him funnier and adorable 😀 . I really liked the character of Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) as for once there is a female (good) character in a Thor movie that I don’t hate 😛 . They gave us enough of her character to understand without overpowering the Thor narrative. The villain Hela, is the strongest in the Asgard world that I have seen and Cate Blanchett was impressive. This is the best Thor movie I have seen so far and I cannot wait to watch this again or see another sequel 😛 . I definitely recommend this film to any Marvel Fan 😀 . Enjoy 🙂

Geostorm

Geostorm (2017)

Genre: Action, Sci-fi, Thriller

I was looking forward to a decent disaster movie as I haven’t seen any that have matched up to expectations for a while. This is not the best one you will ever see but it does a decent job 🙂 . The CGI was plenty and decent quality. They were very dramatic to keep you entertained and I don’t think this affected the movie at all. My favourite disaster was the ice blast in Brazil as it definitely kept you gripped to the movie though I did like the fire in Hong Kong too 😀 . The main characters were alright, I can’t say I was attached to any of the characters and don’t know if I was bothered if they made it. However, to be fair I can’t say I did not like them either and they worked enough for you to enjoy the movie as a whole. I liked the reason for creating Dutch-Boy and the reason why this Geostorm was happening 🙂 . The pace of the movie ran well and it does enough to keep you entertained throughout 🙂 . Each disaster that happened got more dramatic and you did feel for the characters involved (mostly those characters weren’t main characters 😛 ). The bad guy(s) tried to be different and clever which I appreciate but the cheesy attempt to create emotion near the conclusion was too much. I felt more for Max’s friend (when you watch it, you will know 😛 ) then the people in space in the end. The movie ended rather too happily but I still enjoyed the overall movie. This is a decent disaster movie that is great for anyone who likes these types of film with a good story 🙂 . Enjoy 😀

Rogue

Rogue (2007)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Horror

This movie is about a group of tourists who get trapped on a small mud island right in the territory of a “rogue” crocodile. This movie does sound like one of those B-Movies that you love to sit and laugh at its impossible storylines, plot holes and terrible CGI 😛 . However, this film is definitely not one of them. I was happily surprised by its plausible narrative and it was very interesting and captivating throughout 🙂 . I loved the beginning of this movie and the newspaper clips about “monster crocodile attacks” giving us a hint of what is to come for the rest of the movie 🙂 . I liked that in the first 30 minutes of this movie, we were allowed to get to know each individual character and I did not know who would be next (or first) to be “killed” 😛 . The suspense was great and there were some surprising deaths plus dramatic tension such as the “climb across the line” scene.  I was hooked as they tried to figure a way to survive and the way they defeat it was plausible which I appreciated 🙂 . The graphics were good and I liked how the crocodile looked realistic (as much as it could be as it was a rogue crocodile 😛 ).  The scenery was also very good and I absolutely loved the end credit music of “Never Smile at a Crocodile” 😛 . I wish though, I was more interested in the main character Pete McKell (Michael Vartan) because as much as I did not hate him…I did not really like him either. Though his character is not terrible and does not affect the overall enjoyment of this movie 🙂 .  Overall, this film is surprisingly enjoyable and great for anyone who loves monster horror flicks 😀 . Enjoy 😀

Kingsman: The Golden Circle

Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Comedy

The sequel to the surprisingly very successful first Kingsman movie that I could not wait to see 😀 . I can say this film is very entertaining and does please those fans of the original movie 🙂 . It’s great to see the familiar characters Eggsy (Taron Egerton), Merlin (Mark Strong) and the return of Colin Firth as Harry Hart. I really enjoyed the introduction to the American Statesman and loved that their code names where drinks such as Tequila (Channing Tatum) 🙂 . The story itself was very entertaining with its twists and surprises along the way. This film has many shocks and is not afraid to kill of some characters (even when you thought they would be safe 😛 ). I liked that it did not forget what had happened in the first film like who his girlfriend is (though you do wonder why is he dating her? 😛 ) and explaining why certain things happen. The villain Poppy (Julianne Moore) is absolutely terrifying and I do not question her power (being a difficult one to defeat). Plus I loved seeing more spy objects, spy fights and action scenes such as the ski lift 😀 . However, this film is long and the magic of the first movie could not be recreated for this sequel. I am not sure what it was that made this film lack, but as this movie continued you do feel it. Maybe it was that we had too many new characters and being in a completely different agency taking away too much familiarity. Maybe the villains defeat was very unimpressive compared to Valentine’s (Samuel L .Jackson). Though, this film has Elton John who is incredible funny in “Wednesday Night” scene 😛 . This movie is fabulous and is great for any fan of the original who wants to see more of the Kingsman and I can’t wait to see if a third movie is on the way 😀 . It is worth the watch just doesn’t have the magic of the first. Enjoy 🙂

I give this film 4.5 Stars out of 5!

The Hitman’s Bodyguard

The Hitman’s Bodyguard (2017)

Genre: Action, Comedy

From the minute I first saw this trailer I was very excited to see this movie 😀 . Ryan Reynolds (Michael Bryce) and Samuel L Jackson (Darius Kincaid) did not disappoint and created a good partnership together. Their humour and lines in the dialogue were quite amusing and some parts hilarious 😀 . Other moments within the film tried to keep the level of comedy and action equal and it mostly does. The actual narrative was quite entertaining with a decent plot (try to defeat the bad guy and don’t let the witness die 😛 )plus the graphics are good. My favourite scene had to be the beginning as it was a great set up to understanding the character of Michael Bryce and the scene was a shocker 😛 . I also thought Gary Oldman’s character Vladislav Dukhovich was a very impressive villain and the action scenes were great 😀 . I liked the scene in the court near the end (can’t say what scene as I don’t want to spoil but I can hint it is the one with the van 😛 ) onwards was more intriguing. The defeat of the bad guy was very fitting and I liked the development of the characters as they “had” to get along 🙂 . However, as much as I was not bored at all, I can’t say I truly enjoyed this either. It storyline was very predictable which affected the action side of the storyline and the comedy suffered too. The jokes only had me slightly chuckling at times but no laughter. The majority of jokes weren’t funny and the only ones that got me chuckling were due to Reynolds and Jackson’s characters only. Plus the love interests and how they got together were not needed. However, this is still a very entertaining movie and I am glad to have watched it once, I just wished it had been funnier. Enjoy 😀

Blade

Blade (1998)

Genre: Action, Horror, Marvel

Another Marvel movie but this one is before the Marvel Cinematic Universe and it’s a horror 😛 . I had not seen Blade before but I really enjoyed this movie 🙂 . The storyline kept me highly entertained throughout and I was hooked from the beginning. The start of movie throws you straight into the story and the scene with the nightclub is a great scene 😀 . It is very interesting to watch as well as being a great introduction to Blade (Wesley Snipes) and the world he has to live in. Wesley Snipes performs Blade impressively as his character’s personality does not seem to falter and it is different from other Marvel Superheroes 🙂 . His lady interest (though more of a sidekick) Karen (N’Bushe Wright) is a welcome addition as she wants to fight rather than be saved and I actually believed her which is refreshing 😛 . The main villain Deacon Frost (Stephen Dorff) is a decent bad guy and his cool but cruel attitudes to others in his way makes him impressive. The fight scenes are well choreographed and fitted the story well (that it wasn’t placed there for no reason 😛 ). The graphics and how the vampires die was good and I liked the turn to skeleton death the most 🙂 . However, the graphic aren’t as good as they probably would have been but it doesn’t affect the movie. It ends well and you can’t wait to watch a sequel 😀 . This is a highly entertaining and generally fantastic movie for any Marvel fan or fans of Vampire horror films 😀 . Enjoy 🙂
