The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3-D (2005)
Genre: Action, Adventure, Family Film
I did not watch this movie when I was a kid and I remember actively avoiding it as it did not seem intriguing. I should have listened to younger me as I sat through this film 😛 . The film’s narrative is passable and will certainly be more suitable to young boys aged 8 and under. The set up was okay, the reason of how Sharkboy (Taylor Lautner) and Lavagirl (Taylor Dooley) were “created” and the adventure in the drool world was fine 🙂 . The CGI is extremely awful and I am unsure whether at the time of filming the aim to make this “3-D” played a part. Its CGI did not survive the passage of time and you have to bear with an awful villain and weak CGI battles. The dialogue is silly, cringe-worthy and not worth remembering. They relied heavily on slapstick which was not the most appealing plus why did they (the director) think that “song” from Sharkboy was a good idea? The end is a happy one but not surprising as the movie is very predictable. How the parents were brought to Max (Cayden Boyd) at the end was cheesy and Max as a main character was not a good one. Plus I am not a big fan of the names on the Planet Drool (Drool bad enough) as they are trying too hard to be clever such as “River of Consciousness”. To be fair, this could have been good. The idea of Max’s villain, the connection to the real world and the adventures such as the ice kingdom were okay 🙂 . But it was all laced in cheese, the writers could not make their mind up as to whether this was real or not and the acting was not great enough to pull us through. This movie is only good for young boys or anyone who loved it as a child 🙂 . Personally, you can get away with never watching this ever 😛 . Enjoy 🙂
I give this film 1 Star out of 5!
