The Lady in the Van (2015)
Genre: Biography, Comedy, Drama
I had been recommended this movie by a few people and I was ready to be impressed by this “mostly” biographical film 😛 . No one can be disappointed by Maggie Smith as Miss Shepherd because she performed great and created a believable character 🙂 . To be fair, she was not the most likable character in this, but I could withstand it to watch this movie. Alan Bennett portrayed by Alex Jennings, was my favourite character as he was easy to follow and to like 🙂 . I also loved that there are “two” Alan Bennett’s in this movie who talk to each other and narrated along with us 😀 . When we did get to know the “twist” and reason for Miss Shepherd’s situation (which is hinted at in the beginning) was good. It was interesting as we found the answer with Alan Bennett plus the relationship between the two characters (Miss Shepherd and Bennett) was charming 🙂 . The story is mostly okay and does keep you fairly entertained. I do believe this is more of a “marmite” type of film as I was not the most impressed as I know others have been. I found some parts too tedious and I was not entirely entertained. Though there are touching moments and as much as her character was unlikable, the film would not be as good as it was without Maggie Smith 😛 . This is an alright movie if you are a fan of Alan Bennett, Maggie Smith or British comedy biographical movies. I don’t know if I would watch this again but I may recommend 🙂 . Enjoy 😀
I give this film 3 Stars out of 5!
