Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman (2017)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Fantasy

I have been looking forward to seeing this movie since we first saw Gal Gadot’s perform in Batman V. Superman. She did not disappoint and this has been my favourite DC movie so far πŸ˜€ . Finally, we have a new DC film that does not make me pull apart it narrative after I have watched it and I would look forward to watching again. The story had me captivated from beginning to the end and I really enjoyed seeing Wonder Woman fighting in World War 1. I know this may not be historically accurate and many people would have preferred her in World War 2 but I still very much enjoyed it and it worked for the narrative. Diana’s look was amazing and Gal Gadot’s portrayal of her was stunning, fierce and impressive plus I can’t wait to watch more of her πŸ˜€ . I liked the character of Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) as he was believable and endearing. I also liked the secretary Etta (Lucy Davis) as she was a charming addition the story πŸ™‚ . The film was funny, entertaining and did bring a tear to my eye (can’t say why as that would spoil πŸ˜› ). They told us stuff about her past, β€œwho she really is” and I though the mixing of her world (the Amazons) worked well with the World War story. My favourite scene has to be when Wonder Woman fights across No Man’s Land πŸ™‚ . Dr. Maru (Elena Anaya) looked terrifying though I feel we could have seen her defeated better. However, I loved the twist on who Ares truly was in this movie πŸ˜€ . I loved the relationship between Steve and Diana but I know it can’t last which is a shame. The look of the movie was great, I was captivated and was a worthy movie of Wonder Woman πŸ˜€ . I also found this movie to be less depressive then normal DC movies which I liked. I seriously recommend this movie πŸ˜€ . Enjoy πŸ™‚

I give this film 5 Stars out of 5!

The Mummy

The Mummy (2017)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Fantasy

There are many bad reviews from critics about this summer’s blockbuster but I really liked it πŸ™‚ . I found this story easy to follow (in a good way), I loved the Egyptian back story and I was entertained throughout. I really liked the Mummy Princess Ahmanet (Sofia Boutella) and her story plus the actress performed her great πŸ˜€ . She was scary, looked amazing and when she β€œreturns” her graphics as a Mummy were cool. I liked the CGI on the mummies and liked how she β€œturned” others, plus her first attack on the mortals in England was pretty cool πŸ™‚ . I liked the main character of Nick Morton (Tom Cruise) and he was a likable character to follow. Plus I really liked his flashbacks / imagination with the Princess which helped keep the story flowing πŸ™‚ . There are some big moments which are cool such as the plane crash, underwater mummies, and when the glass turns to sand in London. Β I also liked the β€œsecret company” that becomes involved as it hints to a possible other movie (even a series of movies) and gave a new element to the typical Egyptian mummy story. However, there are some rough edges to the tale and I do sense that they did try and shove too many tales without flowing properly. The action scenes aren’t the best so fans of action may feel disappointed. The weakest part for me was Jenny (Annabelle Wallis). She was great at first (I found her moment seeing the mummies with Nick in the church funny πŸ˜› ) but as she went on, she became irritable and not interesting. I did not care what happened to her and liked the Mummy better πŸ˜› . Though she is minor and you can still enjoy the movie πŸ™‚ . This is a really good movie that I would happily watch again but I am a little biased as I loved watching adventure movies involving Egyptian tales πŸ˜› . This is worth the watch and I can’t wait to see what comes next in the Dark Universe franchise πŸ˜€ Enjoy πŸ™‚

The Shallows

The Shallows (2016)

Genre: Thriller, Horror, Drama

This is an alright shark attack movie that can keep you fairly entertained from beginning to the end πŸ™‚ . Blake Lively was quite good as Nancy as her acting in this movie (through her characters struggles) was believable and you felt for her πŸ™‚ . I liked that she was a medical student and how she was β€œsaving herself” when she was dealing with her injuries. The scenery was very pretty and I liked her relationship with the seagull (though I did feel kind of cheesy… πŸ˜› ). The flow of the movie worked and did keep you watching plus you become very intrigued to see how she could survive. The attack of the Shark was very good and I liked how when one stranger was killed we weren’t allowed to see it. We just watched her reaction which was pretty good πŸ™‚ . I also loved the opening scene with the child and I even liked how the shark was defeated (even if it may have been a little unbelievable πŸ˜› ). The CGI is an issue throughout this movie. At times it looked unique with the phone images integrating with the movie then at times looks poor. Especially the graphics of the shark is very questionable at times. Another problem with this movie is the shark’s motives. I assume it is just some seriously blood thirsty monster that just enjoys eating humans even if there is a massive whale carcass. Though the films suggests it is a normal shark so then that makes you question its motives throughout the entire movie creating a sense of unbelievably. However, the film is alright and keeps you entertained. This is good for anyone who likes survival thriller against a monster attack movie but it is nothing β€œWow”. Enjoy πŸ™‚

Romeo + Juliet

Romeo + Juliet (1996)

Genre: Drama, Romance

A modern retelling (set in the 90’s when it was filmed) of the classic Shakespeare play of Romeo and Juliet that is done pretty great πŸ™‚ . It brings the classic tale as modern as possible and still keeps you entertained throughout. I found this film very captivating and enthralling from the explosive beginning to the tragic end even if you never knew this story before (though how could you not know πŸ˜› ). Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes are perfect as Romeo and Juliet plus their relationship is very sweet, endearing and believable. Their first meeting scene with the fish tank was memorable and their meeting outside her bedroom (after the party scene) was very good πŸ™‚ . The action scenes and fights between the two households were impressive plus I liked it when the β€œdark skies” appeared when things got bad. The character of Mercutio (Harold Perrineau) Β was great and I liked the look of Tybalt (John Leguizamo) πŸ™‚ . The deaths of certain characters were played well and the end scene was tragic but performed great (the imagery will stick with you after the film ends πŸ˜› ). I did appreciate that the words remained mostly faithful to the original but did not seems out of place. It flowed well with the acting and scenes while making you still believe it was normal way of speaking for a 90’s Verona πŸ™‚ . The soundtrack is also amazing in this and I did like the use of reporters and news television broadcasts at the beginning and the end πŸ™‚ . Also the use of flashbacks may be a tad cheesy but I think it works and I liked how they used guns for the daggers / swords. Overall, this is an adaption that is done fantastically well and is a great watch for any Shakespeare fan or those who love romantic tragedies πŸ™‚ . Enjoy πŸ˜€

Fast & Furious 7

Fast & Furious 7 (2015)

Genre: Action, Crime, Thriller

I can’t say I am the biggest fan of the Fast and Furious franchise as I have only seen around about 2 of these movies. However, saying that I know enough to able to watch this movie πŸ™‚ . It is quite entertaining and captivating enough to keep you watching from beginning to the end. There are plenty of big action scenes in this that are pretty impressive πŸ™‚ . Such as the driving the car through buildings or sky diving with the cars πŸ˜› . Also the fight scenes with the villain Deckard Shaw ( Jason Stratham) were really cool. He made an impressive and deadly opponent plus the hospital scene at the beginning was a cool introduction to the character. I also really loved Paul Walker’s character and his scenes in this such as his “Jump from Coach on Cliff” and “slamming door shut to protect child” were great πŸ˜€ ! However, the overall awesomeness was not carried over entirely and some moments struggle to deliver. Of course we have the bikini’s, fast cars, bums on show and the occasional “sexy” car wash but that is expected with the franchise πŸ˜› . There was a weak fighting scene with Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) and the female guards. It was not very impressive and looked weak compared to the men fights in the movie. If you took this scene out I don’t think the movie would be affected at all. Even the character of Letty and the other female characters weren’t that good. She came off a little bit boring even with her amnesia storyline and no other female character was memorable. Though, some of men were not good either such as Roman (Tyrese Gibson), who at times became irritating to hear his over-the-top jokes. This is not to say it’s a terrible movie because I did enjoy watching and the ending was good πŸ™‚ . I think you have to watch all the other films first to appreciate this movie as for me I felt at a disadvantage. The storyline was good, villain impressive, the action scenes great and a fitting movie in dedication to Paul Walker πŸ™‚ . A must see for those who love franchise and a decent movie for those who don’t πŸ˜› . Enjoy πŸ™‚

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013)

Genre: Adventure, Comedy, Drama

This is a surprisingly amazing movie with a compelling storyline πŸ™‚ . Ben Stiller creates a likable character as Walter Mitty who has you enthralled from beginning to end πŸ˜€ . His “daydreams” were very entertaining πŸ˜€ . The story is not the most gripping to start with but as the film continues the more captivated you become. It is a little hard to focus on what is real and what is not but I think that works in its favour. It helped you understand Walter while giving the film an arty feel with the random letters (quotes) that appear on objects around at certain times in the movie. I loved the build up in the story when he starts to look for the photo and his adventures are great πŸ˜€ . I loved his continued relationship with the EHarmony Todd (Patton Oswalt) who was hilarious the more he got excited about Walter. The message of the film was great and helped with the overall feeling. I even liked the change in the character of Walter Mitty. Ben Stiller’s supporting cast deserves some credit as each one brought something to the story and Kristen Wiig was great as Cheryl Melhoff πŸ™‚ . This is not the most action packed but by the time this film ends, you are quite satisfied. There are humorous moments (like the gold statue imagination moment), some action (like the run to the helicopter or the volcano) and it is slightly thought provoking πŸ˜› . The ending is quietly triumphant which will make the viewer feel good while being a fitting end to a surprisingly awesome movie. I seriously recommend this movie as it has stellar camera work and story will have you contemplating for days πŸ™‚ . It’s worth a watch at least once even if it ends up not being your cup of tea πŸ˜› . Enjoy πŸ˜€

Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge

Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge (2017)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Fantasy

The ending to the great Pirates of the Caribbean franchise (or so they say πŸ˜› ) which is wonderful for those who love those movies πŸ™‚ . The narrative is good and entertaining throughout. The beginning scene was really amazing as it connected us with the new character Henry (Brenton Thwaites) straight away while giving us nostalgia by reminding us of older story lines πŸ˜€ . I really did like the character of Henry and I did like the new addition of Carina (Kaya Scodelario) especially her role. I enjoyed as we learnt more of her past and appreciated her role as a smart but not overly rich pretty girl making her different from other female roles in this franchise πŸ™‚ . I also loved the look of the villains, loved the new main villain Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem) and their half rotten appearance. How the ship “ate” was also great πŸ˜€ . The scene where we see how that crew (the villains) came to be was one of my favourites and there are plenty of good action scenes. I also appreciate that we got to see the majority of the old cast back (Johnny Depp still fabulous as Captain Jack πŸ™‚ ) and the cameo of Paul McCartney was amazing πŸ˜€ !! The humour is also strong especially the scene of the guillotine πŸ˜› . However, as much as I loved this I am uncertain of if I loved this out of pure loyalty. The narrative at times is not captivating enough to enthral and this still is nothing compared to the original movie. I felt a spark had disappeared somewhere either in the narrative or script of maybe they couldn’t live up to expectation. It’s a shame but this is still way better than the fourth instalment πŸ˜› . Overall, a strong finish that may not be a good as the original but great for any fan wanting to see their favourite characters one last time πŸ™‚ . Plus the monkey is back so I am pleased πŸ˜› . Enjoy πŸ™‚

After The Ball

After the Ball (2015)

Genre: Comedy, Romance

This is another take on that Cinderella story so predictability was always going to be high with this movie. However, as predictable as it was this was a fairly entertaining film πŸ™‚ . Its pace was light but easy to follow and has odd humour moments πŸ™‚ . The beginning starts well and the new modern take of her stepmother and sisters being part of a family business works. They are obviously mean to her but it works in way that is acceptable for a modern world (that no-one else noticing the work harassment and so on πŸ˜› ). The romance is also typical but sweet between Kate (Portia Doubleday) and Daniel (Marc-Andre Groudin) who you do want together (but the pull isn’t that strong as I don’t think I would have minded if they didn’t get together πŸ˜› ). I think what saved this movie for me was about part way through switching from being another Cinderella retelling to a Twelfth Night. The main girl, Portia Doubleday, plays greatΒ  “Nate” and the humour excels in this part of the narrative πŸ™‚ . I really wanted her to succeed and I think from this point on was when I felt a connection with the characters. However, on the downside the climax was not that big so the resolution became lukewarm because of it. Though it did end happily and the moment when Daniel realises who Nate is was a great and sweet scene. Plus the costumes are good and I was quite entertained and captivated even with its flaws πŸ˜€ . Overall, this is a light hearted, romantic comedy that is worth the watch for those love the romantic comedy genre πŸ™‚ . Enjoy πŸ˜€
