A Series of Unfortunate Events

A Series of Unfortunate Events (2004)

Genre: Adventure, Comedy, Family Film

This film is one of my childhood favourites and can keep all ages quite entertained with its narrative 🙂 ! It is based off Lemony Snicket’s series of books and I can’t say how true to books it was. However, that shouldn’t matter as the story still comes across as compelling and captivating plus made me want to read those books 🙂 . There is a nice Steam Punk feel to the filming, costumes and world that made it appealing, unique and different. The children were great in this Violet (Emily Browning), Klaus (Liam Aiken), and adorable Sunny (by Kara and Shelby Hoffman) as they made you certainly feel for them. Jim Carrey was fantastic as Count Olaf 😀 . His facial expressions were fabulous, his overall persona was captivating and hilarious plus makes a very entertaining villain. I liked the events and how they progressed through the film. It felt like I was watching a far longer film than it was and I really did want to keep seeing more adventures 😛 . The “events” were very good and action filled. The car event and hurricane were the most captivating and entertaining scenes. It also loved the moments of sweetness and sadness from the children and I loved the end scene 🙂 .  There is also a great cast of side characters such as Timothy Spall, Catherine O’Hara and Meryl Streep. My favourite was Billy Connolly as Uncle Monty 🙂 . The addition of the writer narrator played by Jude Law really worked and I loved that they kept tricking throughout (making you think it will end one way but didn’t 😛 ). Overall, this is a great family film that has a strong story and acting that can keep all entertained throughout. If you have not already seen this then I recommend you do at least once 😀 Enjoy 🙂

I give this film 5 Stars out of 5!
