The Book of Life (2014)
Genre: Animation, Adventure, Comedy
The Book of Life is a pleasant and surprisingly unique story that the entire family can enjoy 🙂 ! The graphic are pretty good and I really liked the fact the animation changed to “puppetry style animation” for the “story”. It began well and ended quite happily 😀 . I have to admit I really enjoyed this story and was so happy that the predictably did not affect the narrative. There was a moment during the beginning when I thought it would end a certain way because I knew who she would chose. However, half way through the tale, it shocked and surprised me which had me captivated until the end 😀 !! I liked the three main characters Manolo (Diego Luna), Maria (Zoe Saldana) and Joaquin (Channing Tatum) as they were likable throughout. I also loved the characters in the land of dead and especially the characters of Xibalba (Ron Perlman) and La Muerte (Kate del Castillo) 🙂 . The songs are really enjoyable to hear and are recognisable. The colours in this film are really great as well 🙂 . I really enjoyed learning about the Mexican Culture of the Dead without it feeling like I was getting a lecture. It was enough and let storyline keep you entertained and captivated. A great animation which was better than I expected 🙂 . I definitely recommend this film to all ages 🙂 . Enjoy 😀
I give this film 4.5 Stars out of 5!
