When Marnie Was There

When Marnie Was There (2014)

Genre: Animation, Drama, Family Film

This is a wonderful and stunning movie that has become one of my favourites from Studio Ghibli ๐Ÿ˜€ . The story is written beautifully that it keeps you entertained throughout and explored many realistic themes. It explored a rather strange girl (Anna) who canโ€™t connect with others very well and even though she can be rather mean, she is quite likable. I loved the magic hints throughout this movie and the mystery of Marnie ๐Ÿ˜€ . The animation is drawn wonderfully and the scenes like โ€œthe boat on the water during the full moonโ€ are quite pretty ๐Ÿ˜› . My favourite of the characters was Marnie and when her reveal appears (when the Anna figures out who she is) is the best scene in this film. It made me cry so much as the way the themes are explored all come down to that scene, which will pull many peopleโ€™s heart strings ๐Ÿ˜› ! The themes that play throughout are loneliness, finding yourself and love. The relationship between the two girls is endearing and sweet ๐Ÿ™‚ . The background music adds to the mystery and alluring quality of Marnie that makes you want to solve the story yourself ๐Ÿ˜› . I also enjoyed the ending that finished off the film well. Overall, a fantastic movie that I would watch again and again plus would definitely recommend this movie ๐Ÿ˜€ . Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜€

I give this film 5 Stars out of 5!

Promise weโ€™ll remain a secret, forever.

Passengers (2016)

Genre: Adventure, Drama, Romance, Sci-Fi

This is a well crafted sci-fi movie that can keep most captivated with its interesting storyline. The premise is that two characters wake too early on a spaceship and that is intriguing on its own but with the dramatic action and edge of your seat moments it becomes unique ๐Ÿ˜› . I loved the fact that this was as unpredictable as expected and that I was unsure who would make it or how it would end ๐Ÿ˜€ . The two lead characters Jim Preston (Chris Pratt) and Aurora Lane (Jennifer Lawrence) were absolutely stunning ย ๐Ÿ˜€ ! Their chemistry was believable and their acting superb. I loved Chris at the beginning when he realises he has woken too early and loved Jennifer when she discovers the truth (canโ€™t say what truth as that would spoil the whole thing! ๐Ÿ˜› ). The visuals are pretty good and the sense of โ€œthings worse to comeโ€ builds nicely throughout the movie ๐Ÿ™‚ . I loved this for its romance and (kind of) suspense. Although, as much as โ€œPassengersโ€ kept me entertained, I was disappointed. It was such a good film that I was expecting a brilliant ending that would match the rest of the film. Donโ€™t get me wrong the ending is good and fitting, but it was missing something and Iโ€™m not sure what that was. Overall, a decent movie that you can enjoy but Iโ€™m unsure if youโ€™d want to watch it more than once ๐Ÿ˜› . Enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

I give this film 4 Stars out of 5!

Plus Merry Christmas ๐Ÿ˜€

There is a reason they woke up .

Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas

Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas (2003)

Genre: Animation, Adventure, Comedy

This is a fairly entertaining family movie that can keep most ages captivated. I loved the premise of this tale and how we are introduced to the villain straight away!! I really liked the villain Eris (Michelle Pfeiffer) as she moves so fluently, appeared evil, clever and quite unique compared to the other characters ๐Ÿ™‚ ย . There is a level of predictability in this film such as a friendly animal on a ship, comedy elements, a romance between the leads and you probably can guess how it will end ๐Ÿ˜› . The CGI is a letdown in this movie. While it might have been effective back in 2003, now it is actually taking away from what could have been a set of impressive monsters. The narrative I have to give some credit for was full of action, fairly paced and quite entertaining ๐Ÿ™‚ . The reason the characters leave, the mission and the ending were intriguing and worked for the overall narrative. I did like the role of Marina (Catherine Zeta-Jones) as she held her own and Sinbad (Brad Pitt) was likable ๐Ÿ˜€ . Plus I really loved them as the romance build up was fairly believable and entertaining. My favourite scene was the sirens and overall, I actually really liked this movie ๐Ÿ˜› . This film is not the most well known and if you ignore the CGI plus predictability, then you will be surprised at how good this is. Enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

I give this film 4 Stars out of 5!

Iโ€™m here to make sure you get the Book of Peace. Or bring back your dead body if you fail.

Rogue One

Rogue One (2016)

Genre: Sci-Fi, Adventure, Action

A spin off movie based on the Star Wars Franchise which I simply loved ๐Ÿ˜€ . Whether you have watched the original movies (the 70โ€™s), watched the entire Star Wars movies or have never seen any, you can still appreciate and enjoy this movie. The storyline is unique, entertaining and at times funny ๐Ÿ˜€ . The narrative isnโ€™t confusing (so anyone who hasnโ€™t seen any can understand) and I liked that it made plenty of references to previous Star Wars movies ๐Ÿ˜€ . I loved the entire Rogue One main characters especially Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) and Cassian Andor (Diego Luna). I loved their relationship (or hint of one ๐Ÿ˜› ) and the last scene we see them in this movie was spectacular (I canโ€™t say because I donโ€™t want to spoil it ๐Ÿ˜› ). K-2SO (Alan Tudyk) is now my favourite robot from the Star Wars franchise! He was so funny and had a attitude (and sass ๐Ÿ˜› ) problem which I simply loved ๐Ÿ˜€ ! A part of me would have loved the ending to have been different (when you see it you will understand) but it makes sense to end it the way it did. Plus I canโ€™t deny it made this movie different from the others. I also appreciated how thy incorporated clips (and actual people) from the other films and made they fit seamlessly with the newer CGI in this movie. There are some sad tragic moments and the dark side are impressive ๐Ÿ˜€ . A great movie for Star War fans and for those who arenโ€™t (as this is a standalone movie) that I definitely recommend ๐Ÿ˜€ Enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

I give this film 5 Stars out of 5!

Save the Rebellion. Save the Dream.

The Road to El Dorado

The Road to El Dorado (2000)

Genre: Animation, Adventure, Comedy

I remember watching this as a child and hoped that when I re-watched it years later, it would still be good. Luckily, it is ๐Ÿ˜€ . The story is well crafted, entertaining, funny and very good. I was hooked from start to finish and loved that the flow of the movie didnโ€™t get dull. The main two characters of Miguel ย (Kenneth Branagh) and Tulio (Kevin Kline) were flawed but in a good way. I liked the fact they were selfish, greedy, immature as it made them seem more human (as animations go ๐Ÿ˜› ). The reason for the characters to leave is valid, the plot moved along steadily keeping you entertained throughout and the villain is impressive. Seriously, Tzekel-Kan (Armand Assante) is quite the baddy and when he uses his magic (and in the big battle scene) that was quite a good sequence! The dialogue is witty and very funny ๐Ÿ™‚ . One of my favourite scenes was when the two main characters have to prove they are gods (with the volcano scene ๐Ÿ˜› ). I liked the relationship between Tulio and Chel (Rosie Perez) which I actually believed and I also loved it when the boys clashed! It was gripping, realistic (as much as animation can) and entertaining. I loved the ending and the songs (from the great Elton John) were amazing ๐Ÿ˜€ ! Also what is great about this film is the quality is still very good (no bad CGI here ๐Ÿ˜› ). A great movie from DreamWorks that is worth a watch if you havenโ€™t seen it yet (or a re-watch if you have ๐Ÿ˜› ). Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜€

I give this film 5 Stars out of 5!

Look! El Dorado! The city of gold!

The Purge

The Purge (2013)

Genre: Horror, Sci-Fi, Thriller

I know there had been many negative reviews about this movie but quite honestly I really enjoyed it.ย  The story was original and very interesting. The narrative about a near future America where they have an annual 12 hour Purge were all crime is legal had me gripped from the beginning to the end. I get why many people didnโ€™t like this film because it is not scary and would not be top of the horror genres as it did not really act like a horror movie (though people do get killed ๐Ÿ˜› ). However, I loved it. It was my kind of horror with the suspense, drama, interesting thriller vibe and you had no idea who would live or who was a bad guy ๐Ÿ˜› . A great cast led by James Sandin (Ethan Hawke) and Mary Sandin (Lena Headey) plus the overall movie look was executed well. I loved the scene when the young boy lets the homeless guy into the house and loved the ending ๐Ÿ˜€ . The film is more of a thriller than a horror but there is a reason this movie has gotten sequels! A great concept, very entertaining and a captivating story line with a likeable family (though the daughter was a tad annoying)! Also great for those who prefer story to gore :P. A film I would definitely watch again and recommend! Enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

I give this film 4.5 Stars out of 5!

Survive the night.

Devil (2010)

Genre: Horror, Mystery, Thriller

This is a very clever and highly entertaining horror ๐Ÿ™‚ . Itโ€™s the type of horror I prefer as it focusโ€™ on the story and characters rather than full on gore ๐Ÿ˜› . The set up and mood of the film begins quite dark but is highly interesting throwing you straight into the action by creating a death from the start! The idea of this movie is brilliant and unique ๐Ÿ™‚ . I loved the fact that the main characters are trapped (I will try not to spoil) and you had no idea who would be the next victim! The supernatural theme in this movie is quite strong and the narration helped build the suspense and drama. I loved when the narrator mentions about victims who โ€œget in the wayโ€ as it gave a hint to the movie and allowed the film to keep surprising you ๐Ÿ™‚ . The main actors in the lift were all amazing, creating realistic characters and even the most dislikeable character was entertaining (likable for us watchers ๐Ÿ˜› ). The characters outside were also likable and kept you gripped to the story (they werenโ€™t secondary to the action of the main characters). The ending was brilliant and had a great surprise plus a good red herring! A fantastic horror that may not be gory but definitely has death, amazing story and characters ๐Ÿ˜€ . I would definitely watch again and recommend. Enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

I give this film 5 Stars out of 5!

Bad Things Happen For A Reason.

Moana (2016)

Genre: Animation, Adventure, Comedy, Disney

The newest addition to the Disney Princess Franchise ๐Ÿ™‚ . The story is very good and captivates you the entire way. I liked that this film doesnโ€™t take you down the traditional routes you would expect from a Disney Princess movie. I did miss that expected romance but I was pleased with what I got instead ๐Ÿ™‚ . The story explores the power of friendship, adventure, and finding yourself which is quite refreshing. The two main characters Maui (Dwayne Johnson) and Moana (Auliโ€™i Cravalho) were both very good ๐Ÿ™‚ . I believed their friendship and Maui was very funny with his song โ€œYour Welcomeโ€. I quite liked all the songs from this movie but my favourites were Moanaโ€™s โ€œHow Far Iโ€™ll Goโ€ and โ€œI am Moanaโ€ as her voice was brilliant and it was nice to actually sound the age of the character ๐Ÿ˜› . I also liked โ€œShinyโ€ by Tamatoa (Jemaine Clement) as it was quite funny and slightly scary too ๐Ÿ˜› . I also loved the magic of the ancestors in this story and loved when Moana was a child as she was so cute! My favourite scene has to be Moanaโ€™s walk towards the monster as this was climatic and powerful. Overall, a really good and refreshing Disney Classic that I definitely recommend! Enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚
