Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016)

Genre: Adventure, Family Film, Fantasy

This is a movie that any Harry Potter fan would have been dying to see and I can happily say this is a great film ๐Ÿ˜€ . It is nice to see a different side of the Wizarding World. I loved the fact we were able to see Wizards use far more magic (more freely) without the fear of Voldemort or being under age (like Harry had to in the earlier Harry Potter films ๐Ÿ˜› ) . Eddie Redmayne performs fabulously throughout creating his own magic by establishing a lovable character in Newt Scamander ๐Ÿ™‚ . His co-Stars Katherine Waterston, Samantha Morton and Dan Fogler were also great. Especially Dan Foger who played Jacob Kowalski ๐Ÿ˜€ . He was absolutely hilarious with the โ€œgiggle drinksโ€ and created a great sidekick in the story for Newt. The narrative was very entertaining and dark at times which was very good ๐Ÿ™‚ . It had great hints for those Harry Potter fans and what we might expect from films to come ๐Ÿ˜› . Even though there are some darker themes in this (though I found them very captivating and fabulous ๐Ÿ˜› ) it still has plenty of family fun that all ages can appreciate! This movie can also be a standalone which is a good thing ๐Ÿ˜€ . The set looks great, the music familiar and was overall amazing for Harry Potter fans ๐Ÿ™‚ . Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜€

I give this film 5 Stars out of 5!

So youโ€™re the guy with the case full of monsters, huh?

A Street Cat Named Bob

A Street Cat Named Bob (2016)

Genre: Biography, Comedy, Drama

The true life story based off the bestselling book โ€œA Street Cat Named Bobโ€ . This is a fairly entertaining movie for those who like biography movies, heart warming real life troubles or those who simply loves cat ๐Ÿ˜€ . The cat is fabulous in this movie and is played by the real Bob which gives this film a wonderful sense of authenticity ๐Ÿ™‚ . Every scene that cat was in was spectacular and had you finding him either cute or funny. I loved the relationship and surprising survival between James and Bob. Luke Treadawayโ€™s performance of James Bowen was amazing ๐Ÿ˜€ . I believed him throughout, felt for him the entire way through and seemed very authentic. His scenes alone were quite good and I felt for him when he had to deal with those horrible situations. There are some awkward moments in this film that make you feel sorrier for the main character and had some touching moments. Even through the rough parts of this movie and the exploration of the homeless situation it ends off quite heart warming ๐Ÿ™‚ . Also I loved the cameo of the real James Bowen and the pictures in the end credits ๐Ÿ˜€ . The downside to this movie is that it is a bit too long and I found some of the scenes with Betty (Ruta Gedmintas) a little unnecessary. Though I get why they are they (it is base off real life). Overall, a decent enough movie that is worth at least one watch. Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜€

I give this film 4 Stars out of 5!

Sometimes it takes nine lives to save one.

Jack Reacher

Jack Reacher (2012)

Genre: Action, Crime, Mystery

Another Tom Cruise movie where he is a bad-ass out to take every bad guy down with his amazing skills ๐Ÿ˜› ! Therefore, we can admit from the start this movie is going to be predicable and we are going to see familiarity to other roles Tom Cruise has played before. But he does act good ๐Ÿ˜› . The story itself is entertaining, easy to follow and fairly interesting. It has a decent cast alongside Tom Cruise such as Rosamund Pike. The story itself was awesome and kept me guessing ๐Ÿ™‚ . I loved the beginning and how the attack happened ๐Ÿ˜€ ! There is a sense of predictability that works as it keeps the story simple enough to follow yet gives twists and surprises along the way. The fight scenes are fairly good and the film concluded well. It may not be as accurate as it could have been (I havenโ€™t read the books) but I thought this was quite a decently crafted movie ๐Ÿ™‚ . It also had a nice old fashioned feel of an action thriller without using big CGI or explosions. A great film for anyone who likes Tom Cruise or action thriller movies ๐Ÿ™‚ . Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜€

I give this film 4 Stars out of 5!

The law has limits. He does not.

The November Man

The November Man (2014)

Genre: Action, Crime, Thriller

This was a fairly okay action packed movie involving CIA Agents ๐Ÿ™‚ . There is a great cast lead by Pierce Brosnan and you canโ€™t deny their good acting skills within this movie.ย  He plays a great spy that is believable as his character (Peter Devereaux) was one of the less predictable ones ๐Ÿ˜€ . The film is shot well and scenery is not bad. I did like the narrative as it kept me watching and I loved the new take on the character of Alice (Olga Kurylenko) โ€“ it was quite the twist ๐Ÿ˜€ . Olga Kurylenko also acted well as did Luke Bracey who played David Mason. My favourite scenes were โ€œthe twistโ€, โ€œthe scene with the Russian almost President (mid way through film) and the girlโ€ also loved the beginning scene with the โ€œextraction of other spyโ€ ๐Ÿ˜€ . However, I was thrown partway through the movie when Pierceโ€™s character became a villain and hurts an innocent (which was a seriously bad attack!). I was on his side before that! It wrecked the film for me personally and part of the narrative is quite predicable. Though good fight scenes and shock deaths to keep any fan of spy action films entertained. If you are looking for a good action movie with good acting but nothing individual then I recommend this ๐Ÿ˜› . Enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

I give this film 3.5 Stars out of 5!

A spy is never out of the game.

Trolls (2016)

Genre: Animation, Adventure, Comedy, Family Film

I was looking forward to this newest animation from Dreamworks Studios and it hasnโ€™t disappointed. It has a pleasant and entertaining enough narrative to keep the entire family quite captivated. The main two characters Poppy (Anna Kendrick) and Branch (Justin Timberlake) were likable enough though I preferred the personality of Branch better ๐Ÿ™‚ . I liked some of the various side characters in this movie such as Guy Diamond (Kunal Nayyar) who farted glitter and Biggie (James Cordan) who was simply amazing ๐Ÿ˜› . The movie is very bright and colourful which is a good thing plus I loved that the majority of the world looked fuzzy or made out of felt ๐Ÿ˜€ . I loved the beginning scene and how the story of Trolls vs. Bergens began ๐Ÿ™‚ . It was a surprisingly dark opening and loved the dramatic escape for the Trolls. I liked that this continued (the feeling the Bergens would return) and I liked that filmโ€™s subplot (with Bridget voiced by Zooey Deschanel) slotted perfectly. However, as much as I loved that sweet solution to the Trolls problem, I canโ€™t deny the edge of Cheesiness gets stronger the closer you get to the ending. I suppose I preferred the beginning into the middle then found the tale with Bergens (near the end) to be too cheesy for me ๐Ÿ˜› . Thought the humour is good and the music is fabulous. All the songs were good but my favourites were Canโ€™t Stop the Feeling, True Colours and Get Back up Again ๐Ÿ˜€ . Also I wish the romance between the two lead could have been clearer or stronger. Overall, great family movie, great songs and the Trolls look fabulous. Enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

I give this film 4 Stars out of 5!

Find your happy place.

Arrival (2016)

Genre: Drama, Mystery, Sci-fi

The first thing I have to mention about Arrival is that I loved Amy Adams in this movie ๐Ÿ˜€ ! She was stunning as her portrayal of Dr Louise Banks and was very believable. Her position of power did not affect the story and it made sense for her to be helping the Alien situation (over anyone else). Plus that beginning introduction was a fabulous opening and helps make us connect with Dr Banks from the outset ๐Ÿ™‚ . Jeremy Renner was also good as Ian Donnelly and also created a believable secondary character. The narrative itself is quite long but doesnโ€™t get boring so the length isnโ€™t really a problem. The mystery of the aliens is created amazingly leaving you with a sense of wonder and curiosity ๐Ÿ™‚ . The surprise twist part way through the movie was seriously amazing and I was so surprised that I never expected it ๐Ÿ˜› . It is a very thought provoking movie and a definitely unique take on the Sci Fi genre. I would seriously recommend it to anyone looking for a Sci Fi / alien move that is different from the rest (in a good way ๐Ÿ˜› ). However, as much as I truly enjoyed the movie and the ending, I have to say it had an edge disappointment. I guess I felt her choice at the end (when you see it you will know) was a little depressive knowing what will come to pass will happen. Also the Aliensโ€™ reason for being here is a little under impressive. However, it was good enough to finish the story. Overall, a great Sci-Fi movie that I definitely recommend ๐Ÿ™‚ ! Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜€

I give this film 4.5 Stars out of 5!

Why are they here?

Grave of the Fireflies

Grave of the Fireflies (1988)

Genre: Animation, Drama, War

This is a truly depressive film but you cannot help but admire its beauty. I have always been a fan of Studio Ghibli and they show off their excellence as animators in this film ๐Ÿ˜€ . The narrative is captivating and pulls at your heart strings for the two children Seita and Setsuko. The film shows the horrors of war through these two childrenโ€™s eyes and parts are awful to watch (in a good way). A part of me didnโ€™t like the fact that what happens to main characters is said straight away as it makes you a little detached from the start. I couldnโ€™t involve myself in the tale as I knew what would happen (knowing beforehand that this tale would be depressive). However, though I have to admit the film worked by doing it this as it made the truth of war more real and created very emotional moments (Get tissues ๐Ÿ˜› ). I hated the aunt (when you see her you will know what I mean!) though I do get why she is there. Loved the bitter sweet ending as it was beautiful and loved the scene with the fireflies in the โ€œtentโ€ ๐Ÿ˜€ . A great film that you will probably only see once but it is worth it ๐Ÿ˜› . Enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

I give this film 4 Stars out of 5!

Why must fireflies die so young?

Storks (2016)

Genre: Family Film, Animation, Adventure, Comedy

This family animation about a Stork trying to deliver a baby is actually pretty good ๐Ÿ™‚ . The narrative is entertaining and can keep all ages fairly engaged. This is definitely aimed at children but what I liked most was that the narrative and humour could relate to adults as well ๐Ÿ™‚ . One of my favourite humours/jokes in this movie was the reference to โ€œwhere babies come fromโ€ ๐Ÿ˜› . There were pockets of humour throughout that the adults could appreciate and odd humour sections for the children. I liked the characters of Tulip (Katie Crown) and Junior (Andy Samberg) as they worked well together and you actually wanted them to succeed ๐Ÿ˜€ . The โ€œdramaโ€ and โ€œdangerโ€ was quite entertaining. How the babies were โ€œcreatedโ€ was cool and the adventure style to the narrative worked. The wolves are a bit like Marmite in this film (your either going to love them or hate them ๐Ÿ˜› ). I loved the story of the family wanting the new baby (from the storks) and flicking between the two tales actually worked. The CGI is quite good and that baby is adorable ๐Ÿ™‚ . Once she arrives the story becomes better and the ending is fabulous. Surprisingly there are some tender moments that can be quite emotional. Overall, this is a highly entertaining and charming movie that can the entire family can appreciate. Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜€

I give this film 4.5 Stars out of 5!

A bundle of trouble is coming.
