Doctor Strange

Doctor Strange (2016)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Fantasy, Marvel

I was very excited to see the newest instalment from the Marvel Universe and was not disappointment by this movie ๐Ÿ˜€ . The story was very entertaining, enjoyable for all and the movie was paced well and had no dull sections. Benedict Cumberbatch was amazing as Doctor Steven Strange and created a fantastic character ๐Ÿ™‚ . I also loved the character of Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams) and the villain Kaecilius (Mads Mikkelsen) who was pretty impressive. What I loved the most in this film was the CGI and graphics ๐Ÿ™‚ ! The way the film looked, the way the colours worked together and especially the way the buildings were โ€œmovedโ€ was pretty awesome ๐Ÿ˜€ ! The scenes were enticing and entertaining creating a type of uniqueness from the other Marvel movies. Personally, I loved Dr. Strangeโ€™s clock which was absolutely hilarious (and cool ๐Ÿ˜› ). When Doctor Strange is introduced to the Magic the psychedelic sequence is very different but works well making it a very unique scene. The action and humour is plentiful, the ending (how it is all resolved) worked extremely well.ย  I also liked how they travelled and I would advise you to wait for the scenes after the credits (if you donโ€™t do it already ๐Ÿ˜› ). A brilliant Marvel Superhero movie that lives up to the hype ๐Ÿ™‚ . Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜€

I give this film 5 Stars out of 5!

Deepwater Horizon

Deepwater Horizon (2016)

Genre: Action, Drama, Thriller

Another dramatized action disaster movie based on real events. This film is based off the Deepwater Horizon accident in 2010 and this movie is fairly good ๐Ÿ™‚ . I liked how this film began with the real voice of a survivor overlapping the opening credits. I even liked the end credits were we see the real pictures of the survivors and victimsโ€™ (even if some of the actors chosen to play them donโ€™t really match ๐Ÿ˜› ). Matt Damon was amazing in his part of Mike Williams who created a believable character you wanted to root for and to survive ๐Ÿ˜€ ! The majority of the cast in this film (Kurt Russell, Gina Rodriguez, Dylan Oโ€™Brien and many more) all performed so brilliantly that did not take away from the narrative or overtook the main disaster sections. The first half of the film, as much as it is needed, is a bit long and at times slightly boring. However, after that slow first half the second is very entertaining ๐Ÿ˜€ ! The disaster section was gripping, thrilling and had me on the edge of my seat throughout (and I was shocked by some of the surprise deaths/explosions). I also loved Matt Damonโ€™s performance at the end as that was so real and was perfect acting skills ๐Ÿ˜€ . Plus the hints to the disaster in the first half (such as the Coke can and pen scene) was cool ๐Ÿ˜› . ย A pretty good film that I would definitely watch again and would recommend ๐Ÿ™‚ . Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜€

I give this film 4 Stars out of 5!

When faced with our darkest hour, hope is not a tactic.

Iron Man 2

Iron Man 2 (2010)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi, Marvel

This is the sequel that follows the great success of the first iron man movie back in 2008. I really enjoyed this film and thought it created a very successful sequel ๐Ÿ™‚ . Robert Downey Jr. was exceptional as Tony Stark / Iron Man and showed new depths to the character that we had not seen before ๐Ÿ˜€ . We got to see characters from the previous movie while getting to see new heroes such as War Machine (Don Cheadle) and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) ๐Ÿ˜€ . The story itself was interesting and loved the danger it presented (the fighting, danger and personal life for Tony). I loved the battle between Rhodes and Stark (one of the best points) though I wasnโ€™t a fan of Gwyneth Paltrowโ€™s character (Pepper Potts). I got where she was coming from but she came across as annoying and mean maybe because I understood Tony more. Though I really like the ending of this movie and Ivan Vanko (Mickey Rourke) was pretty awesome as a villain. Great sequel that I recommend as it hints to greater films to come ๐Ÿ™‚ Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜€

I give this film 4.5 Stars out of 5!

Itโ€™s not the armour that makes the hero, but the man inside.

The Great Mouse Detective

The Great Mouse Detective (1986)

Genre: Animation, Adventure, Family Film, Disney

A Disney classic retelling the tale of Sherlock Holmes using animals (mostly mice ๐Ÿ˜› ). This is actually okay ๐Ÿ™‚ . The story is entertaining and fairly captivating plus it is actually based of the Basil of Baker Street books not Sherlock (which you naturally assume ๐Ÿ˜› ). This I liked as the story was different and it was not a cheap copy of the Sherlock tale. I loved that you can see shadows of humans and the hints of the original Sherlock story running alongside it ๐Ÿ™‚ . The art of this movie feels very nostalgic to the old style of Disney classics and the villain (Professor Ratigan) is decent. He is voiced by the great Vincent Price and his character Professor Ratigan maybe one of the darkest villains from Disney ๐Ÿ˜€ . The songs in this movie arenโ€™t the greatest and they arenโ€™t memorable. My favourite scenes in this movie were the โ€œBig Ben Chaseโ€ and the solution to the โ€œMouse Trap Sceneโ€. I liked them as they were intriguingly, climatic and intense (especially the Big Ben scene ๐Ÿ™‚ ). I also liked the characters of Basil, Dawson and Olivia who were good main characters and the relationship between each other was great. I also liked how Basil worked and was probably the best character there ๐Ÿ˜› . A very good animation that probably need (and deserves) more recognition ๐Ÿ™‚ . Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜€

I give this film 3.5 Stars out of 5!

Can he bring the dirty rat to justice?

The Girl on the Train

The Girl on the Train (2016)

Genre: Mystery, Thriller

This is a decent thriller and had plenty of hype surrounding it. I canโ€™t deny this is a fairly gripping and enticing thriller that had me captivated from the start. I loved the scenes linking all the women together (plus other characters ๐Ÿ˜› ) and liked seeing the past events that led up to the mystery ๐Ÿ™‚ . I loved that we were following an unstable character and I was gripped (on the edge of my seat) whenever she did something odd ๐Ÿ˜› . I felt for her character straight away and throughout which is thanks to a fabulous performance from Emily Blunt! She was fantastic in this and was a stellar actress ๐Ÿ˜€ . Her acting and make-up (she looked a state but in a good way ๐Ÿ˜› ) made this movie and wonโ€™t be the same if she wasnโ€™t playing Rachel. Others were good too like Scott (Luke Evans) and Megan (Haley Bennett) ๐Ÿ™‚ . However, much as I enjoyed this movie and there are plenty of good things, I have to admit it is not the best Thriller I have even seen. You canโ€™t help but acknowledge Gone Girl (as that been the last thriller on the big screens that was a huge hit) and I donโ€™t know how close this adaption was. But when I was watching this I tried not to allow that to affect me. The pace is at times on the slow side and when the โ€œreveal happensโ€ afterwards the tension isnโ€™t as strong and had an edge of predictability. Though I adored that โ€œRevealโ€ as I was shocked and it was my favourite part ๐Ÿ˜€ . This is an almost hit and it is worth a watch ๐Ÿ™‚ Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜€

I give this film 4 Stars out of 5!

What did she see?

The Imitation Game

The Imitation Game (2014)

Genre: Drama, Biography, Thriller

I was tentative about watching this movie because I knew what had happened to Alan Turing beforehand. I am glad I did watch this as it was informative, entertaining, captivating and surprisingly uplifting even through the darker tones surrounding the narrative. Benedict Cumberbatch was stunning as Alan Turing ๐Ÿ˜€ ! He was believable, relatable, made you feel so much for Alan and was probably one of his best performances ๐Ÿ™‚ . Keira Knightley was also good in this film along with the other great British cast in this film who are quite recognisable for being in period dramas ๐Ÿ™‚ . The setting and costumes were typical of the era and gave a good aesthetic appeal to the film. I really liked how this movie built up, I loved the clip of the war that was slotted into the narrative and I liked the relationship between Alan and Joan ๐Ÿ™‚ ย My favourite scene in this film was when they finally break the Enigma code and the aftermath that came from the initial joy. The narratorial style that flowed over the entire movie worked as it made you more involved and connected to the tale. I also loved the fact this film was not as depressive as I thought it would be ๐Ÿ˜€ . A truly deserving film about a great man, that has focused on his achievements rather than focusing in his downfall. A film I seriously recommend ๐Ÿ˜€ ! Enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

I give this film 5 Stars out of 5!

Behind every code is an enigma

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children

Miss Peregrineโ€™s Home for Peculiar Children (2016)

Genre: Adventure, Drama, Family Film

I had seen so many trailers for this movie and had been very excited to see this ๐Ÿ˜€ . It did not disappoint! This narrative was very entertaining and was captivating throughout. Tim Burton has worked his magic with the story, casting, colour and set! It is the type of Tim Burton movie I prefer, plus I think all ages can happily enjoy and be enthralled by this gripping tale. The story begins well, builds up, gets a decent battle sequence (for a family movie with powers ๐Ÿ˜› ) and ending was great ๐Ÿ™‚ . The ending was fabulous because it is a happy ending, felt fulfilling and was not as cheesy as one might expect ๐Ÿ˜› . I really loved the children in this movie and loved the powers ๐Ÿ˜€ . I really liked the character of Emma (Ella Purnell) but my true favourite has to be Millard (Cameron King) who was absolutely funny! There are some nice scenes such as the โ€œTime-Loopโ€ and the โ€œRaising of the Shipโ€. The hollows were pretty cool and scary ๐Ÿ˜› Samuel L. Jackson played a great part of Barron and I loved the scene where he gets his comeuppance (wonโ€™t say no more as I donโ€™t want to spoil ๐Ÿ˜› ). There may be parts where it could have been done better, but for me that wasnโ€™t a problem. I truly enjoyed this film, loved the relationships and loved that I couldnโ€™t predict what would happen next! Plus the whole different time and era thing really works in this film ๐Ÿ™‚ . A great family movie that I definitely recommend ๐Ÿ˜€ Enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

I give this film 5 Stars out of 5!

Stay Peculiar

Olympus Has Fallen

Olympus Has Fallen (2013)

Genre: Action, Thriller

I wanted to give this movie a try and I did. It does play up to its genre, has a decent cast and can keep you watching. However, I was not wowed. Yes it kept me entertained but probably not in the way it intended. I couldnโ€™t take parts of it seriously. I mean the narrative itself is good and interesting plus Gerald Butler performs a good character as Mike Banning ๐Ÿ™‚ . I also liked the opening scene with the presidentโ€™s family (specially the dramatic part ๐Ÿ˜› ) and I really liked the scene where the white house was attacked as it was quite impressive. However, the graphics are not good (I had expected better for a movie only three years old!) Also parts in this film is highly predictable (like obviously Gerald Butler is the hero so why does anyone else bother ๐Ÿ˜› ). The president seemed stupid as he showed no resolve against the terrorists and basically gave them what they wanted! Another point that bothered me in this movie was why did everyone keep going back to the dead bodies and stabbing them in the head? I hadnโ€™t realised this was a Zombie Flick ๐Ÿ˜› ! This is an okay movie if you are looking for something with a tough man and with plenty of explosions. Otherwise, I donโ€™t think I would recommend this at all. Enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

I give this film 2 Stars out of 5!

Theyโ€™ve taken the White House…

The Magnificent Seven

The Magnificent Seven (2016)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Western

A remake of the classic western and I canโ€™t deny this is a rather good attempt ๐Ÿ™‚ . The film had a nice crisp look while keeping the feeling of an old Wild West setting. The story starts well and creates the dilemma (action) from the outset. There is a great cast in this film Chris Pratt, Denzel Washington, Ethan Hawke plus many more ๐Ÿ™‚ . My favourite character in this has to be Billy (Byung-hun Lee) who was one of the most powerful and his loyalty to Goodnight (Ethan Hawke) was authentic. The main โ€œsevenโ€ all use their screen time effectively and each character felt like they belonged in the team. Odd humour sections are in this film (mostly Chris Pratt who gives some great lines) and plenty of actions as you would expect from a Western reboot. One thing I have to give this film is that it is not afraid to kill characters off though I was disappointed that the better (story wise not acting ๐Ÿ˜› ) characters did not make it. Though I have to admit the ending was quite good, finished well and had a strange nostalgic feeling ๐Ÿ˜› . When the film ended I felt complete and that the story had not missed anything from its plot. The classic music is not in the film but it is in the end credits which I did not mind. I did like the section of the movie where the โ€œsevenโ€ teaches the village to fight back and liked the comradery of the โ€œsevenโ€ (when they get along ๐Ÿ˜€ ). Overall, a great reboot of a western and is probably the best one I have seen so far. It just a shame we lose so many great characters but I guess that is what makes a Western ๐Ÿ˜› . Enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

I give this film 4.5 Stars out of 5!

Justice has a number.
