Bridget Jones’s Baby

Bridget Jones’s Baby (2016)

Genre: Comedy, Romance

This is everything you imagine and expect from a Bridget Jones Movie plus more πŸ˜€ ! The familiar faces are back (RenΓ©e Zellweger and Colin Firth) though Hugh Grant is gone (but is mentioned in this film) πŸ™‚ . The story itself is very entertaining and is highly funny. The humour doesn’t drift too much in this film and is very relatable to us modern day women πŸ˜› . The relationship between Bridget and Jack (Patrick Dempsey) was very sweet, new and loving. I loved the relationship of both couples and found it hard to decide who should be the father while watching (so the film did well by not being predicable πŸ˜› ). The plot itself is simple to follow (you can guess from the genre or poster or simply knowing Bridget Jones πŸ˜› ) but it is comfortable and enjoyable to watch. I did have reservations about this film before watching but the film is highly entertaining and the entire cinema was laughing out loud πŸ˜€ ! The characters are affected by being older but it’s good to see a romantic comedy from an older perspective and still being able to relate to all women (not just a certain age group). The ending was great and Emma Thompson performance was witty and a brilliant addition! I loved her line about the X Factor!! If you loved the first Bridget Jones or any romantic comedies you will love this πŸ™‚ !! Plus I think this may have been better than the original (possibly). Enjoy πŸ™‚

I give this film 5 Stars out of 5!

We’re going to need bigger pants.

The Rugrats Movie

The Rugrats Movie (1998)

Genre: Animation, Adventure, Comedy, Children

This is a film that fans of the original series will absolutely enjoy but those who didn’t might not πŸ˜› . The artwork is familiar and matches the series well so you can’t fault it. There are some references to pop culture such as “Indiana Jones” at the beginning πŸ˜› . My favourite character was (and always will be) Angelica who is fabulous in this narrative and has an amazing song! Her hunt scene while singing Blondie’s “One way or another” was one of the best scenes in the movie πŸ˜€ . The humour in this film is mostly aimed at children but it tried to appeal to adults as well. Parts of the humour got a little weird, strange and some I assume is only for children because it wasn’t funny. The plot is simple enough to follow and is interesting enough. I enjoyed the parents side of the story more than the Rugrats but overall it was not too bad of a story. The relationship between Tommy and new baby Dill was nice enough for the narrative but got a little annoying for me. I was totally on Tommy’s side and it got dragged too long though when it got over the “problem” it became okay (I suppose πŸ˜› ). Overall, a great film for those who want to take a nostalgic trip down 90’s children series classics but not for everyone πŸ˜› . Enjoy πŸ˜€

I give this film 2 Stars out of 5!

An adventure for anyone that ever wore diapers.

Kubo and the Two Strings

Kubo and the Two Strings (2016)

Genre: Animation, Adventure, Family Film

This film was so much better than I expected! The entire movie is done in stop motion and puppets which works so effortlessly πŸ˜€ ! It is done in such high quality that you forget and simply enjoy. The film has a fairytale feel with the narrator at the beginning and end of the movie plus the story is very entertaining. It’s clever, original (the predictability in this film was quite low) and is very engaging! I loved the three main characters Kubo (Art Parkinson), Monkey (Charlize Theron) and Beetle (Matthew McConaughey) who were fabulous characters. I loved the relationship between Monkey and Beetle the most in this film. I was very sad and shocked by a surprised twist in this movie (won’t say as it will spoil πŸ˜› ) and loved the looks of the villain! Especially, the villains β€œThe Sisters” who looked powerful, impressive and slightly terrifying in a good way. Β The movie begins well drawing you straight into the story and action which keeps you engaged. I wish the film had ended differently but that might be because I invested a lot of love for those characters πŸ˜› . However, I can’t deny it ends well. The humour is great in this movie as well and it doesn’t take away from the seriousness, action or made the sad moments cheesy. It did great as a film aimed at a family using stop motion and puppets πŸ™‚ . I surprisingly loved it and would definitely recommend πŸ˜€ Enjoy πŸ™‚

I give this film 4.5 Stars out of 5!

The quest begins

Grease (1978)

Genre: Musical, Romance

This is a classic musical that almost everyone knows and has watched (and if not where have you been? πŸ˜› ). It has an easy storyline to follow that all ages can enjoy and is highly entertaining. There are sections that are funny and some (well actually majority) parts are cheesy but in a good way πŸ˜› . I love the costumes and colours of this movie as it had a nostalgic feel to it which affects the overall movie experience πŸ˜› . This film has some great, memorable (and well known) songs such as Grease Lightnin’, You’re the one that I want and Summer Nights πŸ™‚ . The entire cast is fabulous especially the leads John Travolta (Danny Zucko) and Olivia Newton-John (Sandy Olsen)! My favourite character was Rizzo (Stockard Channing) as she has the best songs (Look at Me, I’m Sandra Dee & Cry in front of you), she looked great and she was hilarious. Overall this film is funny and I loved the mannerisms of the acting especially the way the T-Birds walked πŸ˜› . I also loved the end sequence after “You’re the one that I want” but that end thing with the car is slight strange and cheesy πŸ˜› . A great feel good movie that a whole family can enjoy (for all ages :P) and can be a great sing a long!! Enjoy πŸ˜€ !

I give this film 4.5 Stars out of 5!

Grease is the word.

Bad Moms

Bad Moms (2016)

Genre: Comedy

I was unsure about this movie but I gave it a chance anyway. The film is better than I had expected and is highly funny πŸ˜€ ! The story itself is entertaining and simple enough to follow. There is always an edge of predictability in these types of genres and you can probably guess how it will end. However, I enjoy the comfort from this style of genre and the narrative itself kept me entertained πŸ™‚ . The dialogue is relatable and very funny. The main three women Amy (Mila Kunis), Kiki (Kristen Bell), Carla (Kathryn Hahn) were funny and each commanded the screen. My favourite character (if just choosing for the comedic value) was Carla as she was over the top plus her rewording of famous quotes was brilliant πŸ˜€ ! Mila Kunis’ character was very relatable and had you on her side the entire way through. I was so much on her side that I kind of got annoyed when her β€œdownfall” section appeared. I liked a lot of the scenes were she is being a β€œbad mom” but my favourite was the PTA speech. I also loved the hint to a fourth member of the β€œbad moms” which made me want to see another Bad Moms movie! The scene at the end credits with the real mums was also very sweet. Overall, a great feel good laugh out loud movie for the girls (and guys if you want to πŸ˜› ). Enjoy πŸ™‚

I give this film 4 Stars out of 5!

Party like a Mother!

Odd Thomas

Odd Thomas (2013)

Genre: Comedy, Fantasy, Horror

This is an entertaining enough film with a decent narrative. I liked the beginning as it throws you straight into the story and the action straight off πŸ˜€ . The plot line treads along quite well, builds the danger slowly but not in a boring way and ended fabulously! The section near the end (not the actual end scene) was one of my favourites in this movie πŸ˜€ !! It was shocking (admit a little cheesy) and finished the characters great. I liked all of the characters even Stormy (Addison Timlin) πŸ˜› . They had great personalities and really worked for the story but I wished that some of the actors had performed that bit better. However, Anton Yelchin was brilliant as his role as Odd Thomas and so was Willem Dafoe as his father Chief Wyatt Porter πŸ™‚ . I loved the look of the demons and how they helped build the story (hinting who might be in danger next πŸ˜› ). I also liked the “dog chase scene” and I liked how he dealt with the ghosts (and how they disappeared). However, there are some things I would have liked exploring more (like the gateway to hell) and after that shocking near end scene it takes a kind of passive finish. Plus some parts are quite predicable. Overall, a solid and enjoyable film for anyone who liked ghost or fantasy movies πŸ™‚ Enjoy πŸ˜€

I give this film 3 Stars out of 5!

When evil comes to town, he is the only one who can stop it.

The Revenant

The Revenant (2015)

Genre: Adventure, Drama, Thriller

The first thing I have to note about this film is the fantastic acting of Leonardo DiCaprio as the main character Hugh Glass. He deserves the Oscar he received from this film as you can’t deny his role, performance and how he makes you believe all the hardships this character goes through πŸ˜€ . Tom Hardy (John Fitzgerald), Will Pouler (Bridger) and Forrest Goodluck (Hawk) were also fabulous in this film. Overall, this is a visual beautiful film, the set and landscape great and costumes suited the period πŸ™‚ . However, personally I got bored quite a few times in this movie. Don’t get me wrong, I was entertained enough by the narrative to keep watching but I felt like this film was slow. It was slow with the build up, the dangers felt subdued and parts just couldn’t keep me captivated. The main arc of the story was okay (Hugh’s revenge) as I loved the first part of the movie and what happens to that character. I also liked his back story about his family but the others (like the Native Americans and the French) became unnecessary. They felt like they took away from the main story and dragged the film longer. Though I did like the way this movie was filmed as it made you feel part of the movie plus it made that beginning escape shot quite cool πŸ˜› . Overall, this is a decent enough movie if you like slow paced, drama (set in old wild west but not a western) style films πŸ˜€ Enjoy πŸ™‚

Β I give this film 2.5 Stars out of 5!

Panda Revenant
As long as you can still grab a breath, you fight.

The Forest

The Forest (2016)

Genre: Horror, Mystery, Thriller

This is a decent enough horror with a unique and fairly interesting plot. Natalie Dormer does command the screen and performs great as both Sara and Jess. What I liked was the setting which was absolutely scary and I find the fact the forest is real utterly terrifying πŸ˜› . I enjoyed the narrative and it did have some decent jumpy sections. I liked the tricky ghosts and her “reveal” near the end of the movie was the best section. I loved the ending as it was different, unique and I loved the graphics around that scene (with the ghost). Overall, the graphics were quite good I loved the hints to the ghosts and how they “killed” πŸ˜› . This is more of psychological thriller than a straight out horror which I did quite enjoy. However, it has its flaws too πŸ˜› . The main character much as I loved the actress could be a little annoying and unbearable. I pitied one character because of what Sara does (wouldn’t spoil) and I really did not get Jess. I don’t think it was truly explained why she was there and the ending with that character got slightly cheesy and irritating. A film that had so much promise and potential but trips over its over narrative. However, decent enough horror than can keep you fairly entertained πŸ™‚ Enjoy πŸ˜€

I give this film 3.5 Stars out of 5!
