Swallows and Amazons

Swallows and Amazons (2016)

Genre: Family Film, Adventure, Children

This is a wonderfully pleasant adaption of a childrenโ€™s book that the entire family can enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚ . I have not read the book but I do know that this film has diverted from the original tale and even from the era it is set in ๐Ÿ˜› . However, that shouldnโ€™t matter as the story is engaging, entertaining and interesting. The pace of the tale was good, had a decent amount of suspense and drama while having an old war time childrenโ€™s story nostalgia ๐Ÿ™‚ . The acting is superb in this film especially the children! My favourite was Roger (Bobby McCulloch) who was simply adorable and acted fabulously for his age. There are some funny moments in this film especially the โ€œboat theft at nightโ€ scene which had me in stitches ๐Ÿ˜€ ! The relationship between the children was believable as a family and the character of Captain Flint (Rafe Spall) worked for this story as well (his role in the film). The scenery is wonderful and the action scenes (that are probably not in the original story) were gripping! Overall, a fabulous childrenโ€™s movie that is simply pleasant but not mediocre. There are plenty of stuff in this movie for all ages to be entertained. Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜€

I give this film 5 Stars out of 5!

Pete’s Dragon

Peteโ€™s Dragon (2016)

Genre: Disney, Adventure, Family Film, Fantasy

I had never seen the original Peteโ€™s Dragon so I came to this film with no expectations and couldnโ€™t compare it. I donโ€™t know how true to the original story it was but quite honestly, I was disappointed. I was bored by the time this film had gotten part way through and was waiting for it to end. Donโ€™t get me wrong the graphics are good, the initial premise to the film was enticing and it has a great cast ๐Ÿ™‚ . However, the film is covered with so many cheesy moments and so much predictability (this was actually one of the worst predictable films on have seen this year). I didnโ€™t feel much for the characters or any danger they might have been in as I basically figured out how it would end. I actually understood the villain (if you can call him that ๐Ÿ˜› ) with his fears plus the main two heroes Pete and Elliot were annoying. Elliot was worse because he was so cheesy and near the end (on the bridge) he acted more like the bad guy! Donโ€™t get me wrong the bad guy was still bad and the good guys were overly good that I did understand. I did find parts of the movie funny I have to admit ๐Ÿ™‚ . I also loved the beginning scene (before the movie title appeared) as it was executed well, was interesting and created a great premise. Shame nothing else in this movie matched it. This is a movie aimed at kids. It is fairly okay story to watch (the beginning half better) that small children may enjoy. Shame on Disney for creating a weak reboot of their own movie that forgets about the adults. This is a film I will never watch again. Enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

I give this film 2 Stars out of 5!

Finding Dory

Finding Dory (2016)

Genre: Animation, Adventure, Comedy, Disney, Pixar

I loved the original movie โ€œFinding Nemoโ€ and after the (13 year) wait it was worth it ๐Ÿ˜€ ! Favourites from that film are back like Marlin, Nemo and obviously Dory ๐Ÿ˜› .ย  Plus we get to see cameos from characters like the Turtles as well which is a nice throw back to the original film. The new characters that were introduced werenโ€™t annoying (though some got close to being annoyingย  ๐Ÿ˜› ) and were surprisingly likable. I loved Hank the Octopus who was funny because he was so sarcastic. Plus his reason for being in this film was valid and interesting / entertaining to watch. I loved the scene with the parents which can be quite emotional (so prepare for tears). There are some great funny moments in this movie with the seals and the cute otters (you will know the scene when you watch it ๐Ÿ˜› ).ย  A really engaging story that keeps you entertained and has some twists (a false trick in the narrative) ๐Ÿ˜› . I had a favourite scene but if I told you that would be spoling (though I can hint itโ€™s near the end and has something to do with following the shells ๐Ÿ˜› ). Great movie for those who are fans of Disney Pixar and those who are fans of โ€œFinding Nemoโ€ ๐Ÿ™‚ . Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜€

I give this film 4.5 Stars out of 5!

Nerve (2016)

Genre: Thriller, Adventure, Crime, Mystery

This film I was looking forward to since I first saw the trailer and it didnโ€™t disappoint!! The story is very clever, relatable and very captivating ๐Ÿ™‚ ! I liked that this mash up of genres (thriller, crime and a hint of romance ๐Ÿ˜› ) keeps us entertained while making the genres work seamlessly. I liked that parts of this film was seen through mobile phone footage and laptop screens as it helped build the atmosphere. I really loved the romance and characters of Vee aka Venus (Emma Roberts) and Ian (Dave Franco) ๐Ÿ™‚ . Also the character of Sydney (Emily Meade) worked and she made me like her and hate her at the same time (which is good as it was needed for the story ๐Ÿ˜› ). There are moments that make me laugh in this movie like the โ€œrunning from a store without clothesโ€ scene! Plus it had terrifying edge of your seat moments like the โ€œwalking across the buildingโ€ and โ€œunder the trainโ€. The element of fun and dark side of the game works well and keeps you entertained throughout! I seriously recommended this movie as it is worth it if you like thrillers with a twist plus it is a great film!! Enjoy ย ๐Ÿ˜€

BFG (2016)

Genre: Adventure, Family Film, Fantasy

This is a really good family movie ๐Ÿ˜€ . It stayed true the original children’s book by Roald Dahl and was highly entertaining. The graphics are great and loved the look of the giants and their world ๐Ÿ˜› . BFG (Mark Rylance) was amazingly funny and looked the part (like the drawing of Quentin Blake but more realistic ๐Ÿ˜› ). Loved the character of Sophie performed by Ruby Barnhill who was simply fabulous ๐Ÿ˜€ . The dream sequence was cool and I loved the magic in the movie. The colours they created was almost breathtaking which created a sense of wonder for children and adults alike. I loved the hints and the story of the other child of the BFG’s (when you watch the movie you will know who I mean ๐Ÿ˜› ). The film has a great narrative and is hilariously funny ๐Ÿ˜› . Especially the scene in the Royal Palace with the Fizz Whoppers (I haven’t chuckled so much in a cinema for quite some time ๐Ÿ˜› ). This is a great movie for both young and old plus anyone who grew up on Roald Dahl books ๐Ÿ˜€ . This may not be the best film ever created but it follows the book and it is aimed at children ๐Ÿ˜› . Therefore,ย  Iย  recommend! Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜€

I give this film 4.5 Stars out of 5!

Suicide Squad

Suicide Squad (2016)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Comedy

The movie that everyone will be talking about this summer of 2016!! Suicide Squad is very entertaining and is a rather enjoyable watch :D. The narrative continues on from the end point of Batman V Superman (so please watch that movie first ๐Ÿ˜› ). Overall, story was interesting, captivating and the flashbacks worked without taking away the attention from the main plot line. The villain in this movie is pretty cool and surprising as the trailers made me think it would be someone else ๐Ÿ˜› ! My favourite character in this move was Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) who performed amazingly and created a decent version of the character ๐Ÿ˜€ . I also loved the Enchantress (Cara Delevingne) especially her moves which were kind of freaky ๐Ÿ˜› . Plus Deadshot (Will Smith) was cool ๐Ÿ™‚ . It was a shame other characters did not get as much screen time as others but it wasn’t too noticeable. I liked the neon signed introductions to each of the characters and the fight scenes have plenty of action ๐Ÿ˜› . There is a shock death and a good hint to the next movie in the DC Comic Universe! This film is great start to a franchise that could rival Marvels! A decent watch that I recommend ๐Ÿ˜€ . Enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

I give this film 4.7 Stars out of 5!

Star Trek: Beyond

Star Trek: Beyond (2016)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

This is the third film in the “new” alternative Star Trek movies and matches up to the previous two ๐Ÿ˜€ . The narrative flows on from “Star Trek: Into Darkness” but doesn’t rely on those story lines which is slightly refreshing ๐Ÿ˜› . I liked the new characters introduced to this film. My favourite “good-guy” character was Jaylah (Sofia Boutella) as I loved her look, she acted brilliantly, had some funny dialogue and was simply awesome ๐Ÿ˜€ . I also liked Idris Elba as the villain Krall who looked impressive as a bad guy. I liked the fact that as the story continued, I actually understood where the bad guy was coming from (and felt sorry for him ๐Ÿ˜› ). The action is plentiful, impressive and the final battle sequence is quite captivating. I really liked the invasion scene on the enterprise the best (where the team are spilt up) and the “music attack” was hilarious (when you see it you will know what scene I mean ๐Ÿ˜› ). I also loved the banter dialogue between Spock (Zachary Quinto) and Bones (Karl Urban) as this was funny and great to see their characters develop. Overall, a great Star Trek movie that I truly enjoyed though I would have to admit it not as good as the Star Trek (2009) version ๐Ÿ˜› . However, that end scene is great and I can’t wait for another ๐Ÿ˜€ . Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜€

Also RIP to the great Anton Yelchin who played Chekov.

Star Trek into Darkness

Star Trek Into Darkness (2013)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

This is a very entertaining movie that matches up to the quality and action of the previous movie “Star Trek”. The film throws you straight into the story, full of action and gives plenty of explosions / dramatic scenes throughout the movie! I really enjoyed the opening scene of this movie and was kept captivated. I loved the character of Khan (Benedict Cumberbatch) who is impressive, understandable and a decent villain for the movie ๐Ÿ˜€ . The humour is great within this film through certain moments and scene plus the witty dialogue ๐Ÿ˜› . ย The cast from the last film are back and perform great plus the additional of Carol (Alice Eve) is quite good (she wasn’t as annoying as I thought she would be ๐Ÿ˜› ). She actually made sense and her story worked well within the movie (had me quite interested ๐Ÿ˜› ) . My favourite scenes were the opening scene and the attack on the “other” enterprise (the scene with Khan and Kirk trying to “glide”). Plus I loved the twist on a surprise death which was very captivating, emotional and refers to a previous Star Trek movie (if you have watched any of the originals with Khan you will know ๐Ÿ˜› ).This film is great sequel, follows the last movie brilliantly, is funny, action-packed and has some surprising deaths ๐Ÿ˜€ .ย  A great sequel that I would recommend ๐Ÿ˜€ Enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚
