Independence Day

Independence Day (1996)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

This is one of those classic Science Fiction movies you love to watch simply because it is a good alien/disaster movie πŸ˜› . This film has an almost nostalgic feel to it as it screams 90’s πŸ˜› . The characters may be stereotypical but they work for this film and my favourites are President Thomas J. Whitmore (Bill Pullman), David Levinson (Jeff Goldblum) and Julius Levinson (Judd Hirsch). The best section of this film is the beginning πŸ˜€ . The way the aliens arrive is awesome and hints to the “destruction” that will soon follow πŸ˜› . Also the iconic destruction of certain buildings in America is awesome! I loved that scene and how the characters tried to escape. Even the aftermath was pretty cool too. The CGI in this film (on explosions and the aliens) actually isn’t that bad and doesn’t affect the film. The second half of the film is slower and doesn’t captivate as much as it could do. Though the story is captivating enough plus the reactions between characters are charming like the relationship between David and Julius. Plus the scene with Captain Steven Hiller (Will Smith) and the alien is cool and the speech from the President is awesome!! πŸ˜€ . This is a great film that any Sci-Fi Fan will happily appreciate! Enjoy πŸ™‚

I give this film 4 Stars out of 5!

Predators (2010)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

I really like this version of the Predators films as it is captivating and very entertaining πŸ™‚ . It starts well, the action scenes are plentiful and the story is pretty decent plus very easy to follow (so you can simply enjoy a Predator Hunt narrative πŸ˜› ) . The characters are good, portrayed brilliantly by the actors and each felt like they had a good back story. However, I would have liked to see more of these characters (backstories) but this film is not one of those movies πŸ˜› . The chase with the alien animals was a pretty cool scene and I liked the scene with the Mexican (when you watch it you will know πŸ˜› ) as it was pretty creepy! There are decent twists with the characters and narrative. The twist is slightly predicable but works in this movie and even made me change the character I was rooting to survive πŸ˜› .Β  The deaths are individual and gruesome (there is a reason this is an 18). Also CGI good and have to mention the Predators aren’t too bad πŸ˜€ . However, as much as I loved this film and I really like the beginning leading to the “ship” scene, the ending isn’t as good as it could have been.Β  However, a decent enough film for those who like Sci-Fi and the Predator movies πŸ™‚ Enjoy πŸ˜€

I give this film 4 Stars out of 5!

Gods of Egypt

Gods of Egypt (2016)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Fantasy

I know there is some reviews out there that aren’t too happy about the casting but I simply loved this movie :D. The film told me a story that kept me very entertained, captivated and it is set in Egypt! This is a more fantasy version of the legends/myths/reality and that is why I think it works πŸ™‚ . There is a decent cast in this movie (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Gerald Butler, Chadwick Boseman and so on) and the CGI is pretty good. At first it is odd to see the gods “larger” than others but that fades pretty quickly and you are engrossed in the tale. I loved the armor of the gods and that their blood is gold. There are a few shocks in this tale and the ending makes me want a sequel πŸ˜› . The setting of the world looked good and the battle scenes were impressive enough πŸ™‚ . I liked Hathor’s (Elodie Yung) power and her scene with the demons (won’t spoil). Also I liked the beginning scene (where all goes wrong πŸ˜› ) and the scenes with the underworld. Surprisingly there is some humour in this movie too and parts are a Β little cheesy πŸ˜› . A great action / Egypt movie that I recommend! Enjoy πŸ™‚

I give this film 4.5 Stars out of 5!

12 Years a Slave

12 Years a Slave (2013)

Genre: Biography, Drama, History

This is a true story of Solomon Northup who was forced to be a slave during the 19th century. I can’t deny this is a great film that explores the terrible truths that Soloman and many others had to deal with. The beginning of the film throws you straight into the action and starting off with a feeling of something bad straight away. This feeling gets worse at certain points which works for this film and some scenes (like the almost hanging scene) drag on far longer than needed. This creates an awesome film technique that makes the scenes almost uncomfortable to watch which makes your more empathetic to Solomon’s plight. There is a great cast within this film (Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender and Benedict Cumberbatch) and act brilliantly thought the work of Lupita Nyong’o and Chiwetel Ejiofor were stunning πŸ˜€ ! The ending sequence was the best part and made the film complete. πŸ™‚ Β This is a film that is worth a watch even just once πŸ™‚ . Enjoy πŸ˜€

Me Before You

Me Before You (2016)

Genre: Drama, Romance

This is a wonderful romance movie that is perfect for those who loves the Romance Genre πŸ˜€ . Personally, I think anyone (whether you like romance or not) can appreciate this brilliant film and get lost in the narrative. The story is interesting, thought provoking and is definitely a tear-jerker πŸ˜› . I knew tears where going to fall when this romance story is surrounding a difficult issue but the film does it quite tastefully. The acting is superb in this and each character seems authentic in their role. Emilia Clarke is wonderful in her portrayal as Louisa Clark who is likable and funny πŸ™‚ . Her onscreen relationship with Sam Claflin is believable, lovely and his performance as Will Traynor is outstanding πŸ˜€ . What I liked is they were so good you did not see the actors just the characters (previously roles didn’t over shine) πŸ˜› ! The soundtrack is great in this film too (Photograph by Ed Sheeran) ! My favourite scene has to be the wedding and the accident plus I loved Lou Clark’s Shoes :P.Β  The scenery is also good and I liked the overall feel of the movie. This is a superb film that I seriously recommend! Enjoy πŸ˜€ !

Sky High

Sky High (2005)

Genre: Adventure, Comedy, Family Film, Disney

This film is a decent and highly entertaining children’s movie involving superheroes πŸ™‚ . Disney does a good attempt at the superhero genre (pre-Marvel Franchise πŸ˜› ) and even adults (or simply fans of superheroes) will enjoy this. The characters are pleasant and likable, you actually want to root for the good guys, impressed by the villains and laugh along with them. Also the humour is very strong in this film! I loved the idea of separating heroes and sidekicks in a high school setting. The narrative is well constructed, clever, plenty of teen drama, entertainingΒ  and has a pretty nice twist in the plot πŸ˜› . My favourite scenes are the new kids’ initiation into the school, the final battle and the battle between Layla and Penny. I loved the powers they chose for characters, plants, stretch, speed, flight and the graphics aren’t too bad. Has a comic book feel to the film and the soundtrack is pretty cool (my favourite being “I’ll Stop the World and Melt with You” ) πŸ˜› A highly enjoyable and captivating film that the entire family can enjoy and great for fans of superheroes πŸ˜€ ! Enjoy πŸ™‚

Warcraft: The Beginning

Warcraft: The Beginning (2016)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Fantasy

This is a pretty decent fantasy movie based on a video game πŸ˜€ . I was truly entertained and the story was pretty good πŸ˜› . I really liked the beginning set up and the overall tale had me quite captivated. It was what I expect from a medieval fantasy film plus I loved the costume set and setting. Obviously, CGI is used but the look of the Orcs prosthetics was pretty awesome and the Mage’s /Wizards magic was impressive. The cast is also pretty decent; Travis Fimmel, Paula Patton, Dominic Cooper and Ben Foster. I liked the Orcs story from Durotan’s side, I liked the many twists (won’t spoil) as they were entertaining and cunning πŸ˜› . The end section was beginning to lose me a little and I wished certain things had gone a different way (that certain people didn’t die πŸ˜› ). However, it that might be matching the game exactly and I wouldn’t know as I haven’t played Warcraft πŸ˜› . This is a great film that is perfect for fantasy genre fans and those who love the game πŸ™‚ Enjoy πŸ˜€
