Labyrinth (1986)

Genre: Adventure, Family Film, Fantasy

This is a classic from the 80’s and it has a wonderful original narrative πŸ™‚ . The first thing I have to mention about this film is the fantastic David Bowie (don’t think anyone else would have played the Goblin King πŸ˜› ) and the amazing talent of Jim Henson. You have to appreciate the puppets even if the CGI on some of them have been affect by time. The main actress (Jennifer Connelly)Β  plays a great part and you do believe in her character πŸ™‚ . The downside to this film is appears a little dated and the songs aren’t great. However, there is a kind of nostalgic magic to the story of this film that keeps the entire family entertained. My favourite scene is the “Ball in a bubble” scene (when you watch it you will know what I mean) as it has the most magic and is a turning point in the narrative πŸ˜€Β  . Also I would love to know how Sarah explained it all to her parents in the end. A great film to watch at least once πŸ˜› . Enjoy πŸ™‚

I give this film 4 Stars out of 5!

The 5th Wave

The 5th Wave (2016)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

I have not read the book so I won’t be able to say how accurate this movie is but the film itself is alright. The idea is brilliant πŸ™‚ . Alien invasion with a twist πŸ˜› . I love the beginning sectionΒ  as it throws you straight into the action and I loved the explanation into each of the “waves”. However, personally I preferred this section. Once we had caught back with Cassie (in real time to the narrative) everything starts to drag out. Don’t get me wrong there are some good scenes in here and the narrative does move along quite nicely. I liked the set up to the world, the love triangle isn’t bad, and the fact she was trying to find her brother was nice πŸ™‚ . However, some part were dragged far longer than they should have. They became filler scenes which didn’t help character development or enhance the story. Though this is a pretty good dystopian alien movie with a cool twist so I definitely recommend! Enjoy πŸ˜€

I give this 3 Stars out of 5!

Room (2016)

Genre: Drama

I only saw this film this week and was very excited to see it! The film is brilliant πŸ˜€ .Β  A unique style that captivates the audience with its difficult storyline. You know exactly what is going on yet it somehow doesn’t become depressive. The acting of Brie Larson is amazing as she makes you believe the horror she has to deal with yet her strength of being a mother. However, Jacob Tremblay is even better πŸ˜› . He was the star of the show, his character was authentic and he lead the narrative without making it lose any of the unique quality. The best scene is “Jack’s escape” as it is the turning point of the film and is very captivating πŸ™‚ . You are on the edge of your seat, desperate to see is they succeed. There are plenty of sad scenes that will make you cry and there are moments that will create a smile (and the odd laugh). Β An extraordinary movie that I serious recommend πŸ˜€ ! Enjoy πŸ™‚

The Wolf of Wall Street

The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)

Genre: Biography, Comedy, Crime

I heard many people saying this was really great film and it had been recommended to me more than once πŸ˜› . So I thought it was about time I actually watched the movie! The film itself is alright. The narrative had me at times but there were moments where I was slightly bored. Leonardo DiCaprio was amazing πŸ˜€ . He created a believable character and I do think it was one of his best performances. I did like the narrator style throughout the film as it gave it a unique, quirky and likable style πŸ™‚ . There were moments that were truly interesting and funny such as the “drive home when badly overdosed” scene πŸ˜› . Though it was not as funny as I would have liked and they focused far too much on naked women and sex jokes. However, the ending I did quite like with the reference to previous scene “sell me this pen”. Overall, an alright film that is more suited to those who prefer this types of film (crime, naked women, drugs, comedy and so on). Enjoy πŸ™‚

I give this film 2.5 Stars out of 5!

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (2011)

Genre: Adventure, Drama, Fantasy

The finale to the Harry Potter Franchise and it lives up to its expectation πŸ˜€ ! It is a perfect ending to a great film series with plenty of emotional scenes, drama, dramatic action and great CGI! The story begins straight after part 1 and you don’t feel like you have missed anything. The acting has continued to stay strong (even from side characters) and especially Alan Rickman πŸ˜€ . The scenes with Professor Snape are brilliant in this film and I think is the best section of this entire movie πŸ˜› . The actions (hunting the Horcruxes) are more available this time and each being as captivating as the last. The battle of Hogwarts is amazing πŸ˜€ ! Wish some things of the book had been included but the entertaining/dramatic quality of the battle is still pretty awesome πŸ˜› . Plus the aftermath of the battle is quite sad. The ending was sweet and a fitting conclusion to a great plus memorable series. A brilliant film that I seriously recommend πŸ˜› . Enjoy πŸ˜€

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (2010)

Genre: Adventure, Family Film, Fantasy

The beginning of the end of the Harry Potter Movies! This is a decent, interesting and brilliant first half to the Deathly Hallows book but not as good as it could have been. There are some terrific scenes within this! The acting has gotten better and some of the actors push it to the max! My favourite scenes are “Hermione’s last time with parents” and “the capturing of Ministry Workers” πŸ˜€ . The first scene I mentioned (and various other within the film) are quite emotional and the last one I mentioned is funny πŸ˜› . It is a very unique film that has plenty of humour while being very captivating with the dangers involved! I really like the darker themes within this movie as it keeps it entertaining. Plus I love the scene explaining the Deathly Hallows πŸ™‚ ! However, the problem with this film is some scenes are dragged out. I guess that is because they have made a “part one” therefore a conclusion won’t be found so they extend scenes. However the camp /on the run section is slight boring and drags on for too long. However, a great film and I recommend to watch πŸ˜€ . Enjoy πŸ™‚

The Danish Girl

The Danish Girl (2016)

Genre: Biography, Drama, Romance

I was very excited to see this film after seeing clips from the trailers. And afterΒ  New Year’s Day I was able to watched it and was not disappointed πŸ™‚ ! I do not know anything about the Real story of Lili Elbe but I found the story to be touching, interesting and very entertaining. The acting was superb within this film πŸ™‚ . Eddie Redmaine (Lili Elbe/ Einar Wegener) is fabulous and so was Alicia Vikander (Gerda Wegener) as his wife. They created some stunning scenes and I believed in the chemistry of the two actors πŸ™‚ . The costumes and overall setting of this film is also great. What I liked most about this film was that it kept me intrigued but allowed me to laugh with the characters even when it is about an emotional issue. The ending is fitting for the tale and you get a good feeling about it even though I do wish it ended differently (we can’t change history πŸ˜› ). A wonderful and stunning film that I do recommend πŸ˜€ . Enjoy πŸ˜‰

I give that film 5 Stars out of 5!

In the Heart of the Sea

In the Heart of the Sea (2015)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Biography

This is a movie based on the true events of the Essex ship that inspired the novel Moby Dick. I don’t know how accurate this retelling was to the “real” events but I was quite impressed πŸ˜› . The narrative was interesting and sometimes captivating. The first half with the ship setting off to the action packed storms (and whale attack) was by far the best section πŸ™‚ . The aftermath was acted out brilliantly, dramatic and was captivating (with the odd heart pulling / tear jerking moments) πŸ˜€ . Though the second half wasn’t as good as the first part. The two main leads (for me) was Owen Chase (Chris Hemsworth) and George Pollard (Benjamin Walker) who acted their characters brilliantly πŸ˜€ . The graphics of the Whale is pretty decent too πŸ˜› . There are scenes (moments in the narrative) that show the desperation of the characters which are hard to watch but that doesn’t destroy the film. Overall, a satisfactory Whale / Real life movie that is interesting enough but it is not the best film ever. Enjoy πŸ˜€

I give this film 3.5 Stars out of 5!

Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Fantasy, Sci-Fi

I was so excited to see this film every time I saw a trailer appear and I can happily say I very much enjoyed it πŸ˜› . The overall setting / cinematography of this film reminded me of the previous films in the franchise and made it appear to fit the look of the series. The narrative itself was very interesting, kept me entertained, I laughed once and was hooked to the story πŸ˜€ . The narrative was simple enough to understand as well for anyone watching who had not seen the previous ones. The characters were likable and I (for once) in a fantasy/sci-fi world did not hate anyone πŸ˜› . The main girl Rey (Daisy Ridley) had an intriguing back-story, likable personality (someone to root for) and she wasn’t sexualized! My favourite characters were Finn (John Boyega) andΒ  BB-8 who was amazing πŸ˜€ ! It was great to see references to the previous films, see some of the old cast plus the music is brilliant πŸ˜€ ! Also there is a twist / shock near the end which was pretty awesome and felt just like a Star Wars Movie! Overall a highly enjoyable film that I would recommend. Enjoy πŸ˜€
