The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (2010)
Genre: Adventure, Family Film, Fantasy
This is the third instalment of the Narnia films 🙂 . This film’s overall feel continues the darker tone of the Prince Caspian movie but keeps up the fairy tale atmosphere of the original. We have lost the older children from this movie (though they still make an appearance during the film) and gain the introduction of Eustace Scrubb (Will Poulter). He is a good addition to the film who gets better during the second half (when something happens to him 😛 ). There are some boring sections in this film, with awkward dialogue and the constant reprisal of the white witch feels a little old (over used). However there are some scenes, actions and visual element help you overcome the bad sections 🙂 . My favourite scenes are the entrance to Narnia and the scene where Lucy questions herself (when you watch it you will know 😛 ). This film is highly enjoyable film for children and adults alike but still isn’t as good as the lion, the witch and the wardrobe was. Enjoy 🙂
The second film to the Narnia franchise and has a much darker approach to this interpretation. You are thrown straight into the action (of this much darker tale than the book) and it is an interesting, exciting way to start the story. The beginning is really captivating and you are constantly gripped as the tale unfolds. The introduction and portrayal of the new character Prince Caspian (Ben Barnes) is a very good addition 🙂 . The entire story is very captivating and has some scenes that are more emotional than others. My favourite scene is the first attempt battle/invasion of the castle (trying not to spoil :P) as that is shocking and very interesting scene. I also love how the children enter Narnia in this film (again won’t spoil 😛 ). Some sections aren’t as good as they could have been and how the children spoke to each other can sound a little cheesy. However, this is still a very good movie. A excellent and different adaptation that is not as good as first but worth a watch is you like the Narnia series. Enjoy 😀
This is so much better than part one just as I had expected it to be 😀 . The expectations that have built whether you have read the books, seen the trailers or simply adore the Hunger Games franchise is matched well in this movie. Jennifer Lawrence was spectacular her acting was believable and her reaction to a “certain somebody’s death” was fitting. Maybe you could have asked for more of a reaction but personally I thought her reaction was realist, poignant and heartbreaking(ish) 😛 . The rest of the cast was good too 😛 . I loved Effie and Haymitch near the end of the movie, and the cat scene was funny but not in a bad way. It is simply that the cat was epic 😛 . My favourite scene was the underground attack. Very cool and scary 😀 ! Plenty of action and the film is packed full of twists! There are some minor boring sections but they are saved by those action/epic scenes 🙂 . This is a film that will be enjoyed by fans of the books, films or simply the hunger games/dystopian movies 😛 . A great ending to the film series. Enjoy 😀
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005)
Genre: Adventure, Family Film, Fantasy, Disney
This is my favourite versions of the Narnia films and it is amazing!! The beginning throws you straight into the action and is quite a fresh take of introducing the Pevensie Family 😛 . The music is also a great addition to the beginning section as it is quite effective in creating a good expectation / atmosphere of the magic we are waiting to see 😛 . The CGI of the magic creatures (especially Aslan 😀 ) is quite good and doesn’t destroy the story. All four children acted well and I don’t think anyone else could have portrayed them (Peter ,Susan ,Edmund or Lucy) as well. The story itself is captivating, full of magic and action and keeps you entertained. Some scenes will make you cry (you will know what scenes they are 😛 ) and my favourite scene was the battle! It is done so good and dramatically that it will stay with you even after the films over 😛 . Also the White Witch is quite an impressive bad guy 😀 . A really good adaption of “the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe” that will entertain the entire family and I highly recommend 🙂 . Enjoy 😀
Genre: Animation, Adventure, Comedy, Family Film, Children
Another Disney Classic that everyone knows of but it’s classed as a bit of an underrated Disney Movie 😛 . This film deserves more credit 😀 . The drawing is a traditional old fashioned way of animation (Disney’s anyway) that gives it quite a charming effect 🙂 . The narrative itself is entertaining and is perfect for children. The main characters (my favourites are the kitten especially Marie 😛 ) are pleasant and are unique enough to remember. The comedy element in this film ruins the charming effect quite a lot as it is only going to be enjoyed by (true fans) or children. The humour is typical of the 70’s and it has lost that original comedy factor. The songs are really good though 😛 . They match the film well and “Everybody wants to be a Cat” is my favourite section of the entire film. Though the Aristocrats does have some questionable lines “If you want to turn me on?” sung by Duchess herself 😛 . However, through all those questionable or unfunny sections it is still a Classic worth remembering. So if you fancy watching a charming, sweet, old fashioned Disney film then this is for you 😛 . Enjoy 😀
This film is a sweet romance which can appeal to a younger audience as well as a more mature one 😛 . The first thing that sparks to mind when watching this film is the stunning cast and the exceptional performance from Saoirse Ronan! She was spectacular 😀 ! I was either in tears or trying not to laugh out loud the entire way 😛 . The narrative was a pleasant ride with enough realism thrown in to keep you entertained throughout 🙂 . The romance (both of them 😛 ) was believable and wasn’t just simply thrown in for no reason. You believed in the character Saoirse Ronan was portraying and the struggles she faced. The first romance was sweet and built well, the second felt right (fitted into plot well) and you understood why she was “caught” between the two. My favourite section was when she returned to Ireland 🙂 . The ending felt too sudden but that was because I was truly interested. A truly good film that is entertaining, has a good story, brilliant acting and epic fashions 😛 . Enjoy 😀
The final film in the Shrek Franchise and it finishes off pretty good 😛 . The story is different, a nice twist that keeps you entertained and keeps up the humour. The introduction to the new villain Rumpelstiltskin is a fantastic bad guy and he might have been the worse one that Shrek has had to face so far 😛 . It was funny to see the alternative versions of the original cast like Warrior Fiona or the pampered Puss in Boots 😛 . Though they are never going to complete with the originals (as these new versions are slightly annoying) but they serve their purpose well. The narrative is stronger than the comedy in this film and there are some sad sections in this. We are allowed to see another side of Shrek with his new troubles and you really do want him to succeed! The ending was fitting, felt like a good completion to the entire series and was my favourite part. This movie is definitely better than the third instalment but not as good as the first too. Definitely worth the watch if you are a Shrek Fan or simply picking a film for the entire family. Enjoy 😀 !
This is a truly great film that has to be watched at least once (everyone not just the ladies 😛 ). The acting is superb within this film, everyone suited the period and Cary Mulligan was excellent. She created a character that was liable, emotional, you could connect to her and she kept you captivated 🙂 . Helena Bonham Carter and the rest of the main female cast also created believable characters. The story, as much as parts of it are fictional (just around the character of Maud Watts), keeps true to real life and is harrowing. It is a shocker to see what happened, you want them to win and has emotional / surprising scenes. The film truly gets interesting when the suffragettes actually start to be “disobedient” and the ending is my favourite part 😀 . I liked how true the film directors were to the real incidents and the use of real footages. Parts of the film probably should have been more heart wrenching, captivating or focus on more as I did notice how long the film was. This would suggest that I wasn’t completely enthralled but the narrative and acting win highly with what they are highlighting. This film may not be everyone’s cup of tea (if you don’t like gritty period films) but I do recommend at least watching this once. Enjoy 😀 !
This film is one of those horror movies that has an overriding narrative rather than loads of gory or scary scenes thrown in. It had a nice balance of feeling like a romantic period drama while masking a dark, gothic ghost story 🙂 . The beginning had you thrown in at the deep end, the ghosts were really terrifying and looked awesome plus the overall scenery was nice. The colours where vivid and helped the overall change in atmosphere as the film progress. The three main actors (Mia Wasikowska, Tom Hiddleston and Jessica Chastain) were truly amazing 😀 . Their characters where believable and their “chemistry” on screen had you enthralled. The romance was convincing, worked well for the story. Yes, I will admit it got to about half way through the film and it got predicable 😛 . However, that was minor as the narrative was still interesting and I quite honestly wasn’t sure how things were going to turn out 😛 . It is a really good horror for those who like a touch more of story than scares. Enjoy 🙂
