Red Lights

Red Lights (2012)

Genre: Drama, Mystery, Thriller

I think this is one of those marmite film where some will find this incredibly boring or will truly love this film (like me πŸ˜€ ) . The acting within this film is sublime; Cillian Murphy, Robert De Niro and Sigourney Weaver πŸ™‚ . The narrative is constructed well and keeps you entertained. The film itself is slow to build and sections between the “action” might make you less than captivated but I found the “story” is good enough to support those gaps πŸ˜› . I liked the back story to Margaret Matheson and I liked the scene when they are investigating Silver (the psychic tests).Β  The Tom Buckley’s obsession Β is quite good and the hints to the supernatural works well (though I would have liked more) with the seriousness of the real world. The twist at the end of the film may be sudden but I quite liked it and it saved the film for me πŸ™‚ . This movie has plenty of suspense, drama and is one of the best film of the thriller genre. So if you want to watch a original narrative about people trying to find fake psychics with excellent actors? Then this is for you πŸ˜› . Enjoy πŸ™‚

I give this film 4.5 Stars out of 5!

Pan

Pan (2015)

Genre: Adventure, Family Film, Fantasy

This film I was eager to see as I had seen many great trailers and I love the tale of Peter Pan πŸ˜€ . Well, I was quite disappointed. The trailers are the best thing about this film and they build up an expectation that doesn’t deliver :/ . First I will say the things that did impressed me. I like the onscreen relationship of Hook and Peter as it was quite charming. I like the Indians when they got hurt (trying not to spoil) became paint (very stylish πŸ˜› ) and the pirates first scene and the beginning section was quite cool πŸ™‚ . However, I didn’t like the fact that this is set in World War 2 as if anyone knows Peter Pan it is set way before this time (as the whole point of this film is the beginning of Peter Pan so how can he start in WW2 when he meets Wendy around the early 1900’s?). However, you can get past that but I didn’t believe in the relationship between Hook and Tiger Lily. I wasn’t impressed by Tiger Lily at all, the Indians bored me and the fairies were terrible. Also, the pirates were okay but the modern music they were singing was simply irritating(made no sense for this era). A film that has obviously tried but failed to impress. If you want to see an fantasy adventure then this is for you but if you are looking for a story about Peter Pan then avoid. Enjoy πŸ™‚

San Andreas

San Andreas (2015)

Genre: Action, Drama, Thriller

This is a decent disaster movie πŸ™‚ . I had heard a good recommendation for this film and had started watching this with good expectations. It has predicable stereotypes that is expected from disaster movies for example broken/split up families come together to hunt for daughter in times of crisis πŸ˜› . However, that aside it had plenty of action and disaster! The effects were good and I was quite captivated πŸ˜› . There were moments in the film were I was truly interested and unsure of how the “disaster” would play out. The two scenes I liked most and made me feel (captivated) the most were the dam scene and Blake in water scene! The cast was great Dwanye Johnson, Carla Gugino, Alexandra Daddario and Ioan Gruffudd πŸ™‚ ! The two English characters were so typically posh (Ben and Ollie) but forgivable and the typical patriotic flag shown at the end (also forgivable) πŸ˜› . Overall, a really interesting, dramatic and a good disaster film that I would recommend. Enjoy πŸ™‚

Push

Push (2009)

Genre: Action, Sci-Fi, Thriller

This film was alright. The idea was okay, looking for a missing girl in a world where the majority of people have powers. Sounds okay right? Well I did like the powers in this world, how they managed to make superhero powers seem acceptable and I liked the arty cinematography overall look of the film πŸ™‚ . The Division people and the Chinese gangsters were interesting characters and worked (though at times the gangsters were a little off and the screams got a little annoying πŸ˜› ). And the main cast (Chris Evans and Dakota Fanning) acted well. However, then it starts to fail. After the initial start it gets a little boring and it doesn’t captivate as much as it could have. Plenty of plot holes throughout the narrative, the more the film continues the less you care about them and ending felt incomplete. I don’t know why because it was a (kind of) nice twist and I had liked the power (in the fight scene beforehand) of Kira Hudson played by Camilla Belle. However, the ending just felt short and I wasn’t satisfied. Perhaps that is because of the plot holes πŸ˜› . Enjoy πŸ™‚

The Walk

The Walk (2015)

Genre:Β  Adventure, Biography, Drama

I was unsure how well this film was going to turn out but I was so glad to take a chance at watching this! It is amazing πŸ˜€ ! Possibly one of the best (underrated) films I have seen this year! It is the true story of Philippe Petit (played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt) who back in 1974 walked a tightrope between the twin towers. The story keeps you entertained throughout (literally the entire way πŸ˜› ) and the narration (Philippe Petit narrating the tale) works really well creating a realistic and immersive(kind of) feel to the movie πŸ™‚ . The actual walk scene is gripping, exciting and horrible all at the same time πŸ˜› . You really want him to cross safely and that is because Joseph Gordon-Levitt creates such a likable and interesting character (portrayal of Philippe Petit). Also I loved the end tribute for the twin towers which was an effective ending that acknowledged what happened without forcing it upon the audience. A truly great biographical film that I would definitely recommend πŸ™‚ . Plus if you watch this in 3D it is even better πŸ˜› . Enjoy πŸ˜€ !

Macbeth

Macbeth (2015)

Genre: Drama, War

This is a really good adaption of Shakespeare’s Macbeth! Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard were simply extraordinary πŸ˜€ . I liked that this adaption decided to make it seem more like the 11th century than trying to fit Shakespeare into a modern world (like many other adaptations I have seen previously πŸ˜› ). Β The scenery, costumes, the filming style and overall look of the film was quite impressive. The dagger scene, Lady Macbeth’s “clean hands” speech and what happens to the Macbeths in the end were brilliant and are my favourite scenes πŸ™‚ . Unfortunately, it is a little long and if you are not a great Shakespeare fan then some of the lingo might get you slightly bored. However, I think the speeches ran smoothly, the acting was superb and some versions (their take on it) of the classic scenes were refreshing toΒ  see. Also most importantly the madness is believable!! This is truly a good Macbeth πŸ˜€ ! Enjoy πŸ™‚ !

Ice Age: Continental Drift

Ice Age: Continental Drift (2012)

Genre: Animation, Adventure, Comedy, Family Film

Ice Age: Continental Drift is number 4 of the family film franchise involving ice age mammals πŸ˜› . It starts as you would expect (if you have seen any of the previous films) and does keep you entertained πŸ™‚ . It was nice to see Diego finally getting a romance story line as it has mostly just been about Manny and Ellie (though I do still love that romance too πŸ˜› ). However, as much as I like the character Shira I wasn’t really convinced of the romance (they fancied each other but I think that was it). Teenage Peaches is amazing πŸ˜€ ! She was a fresh and likable character. Sid’s grandmother is epic and was probably the best character there πŸ™‚ . The pirate idea is a little far-fetched but I enjoyed it and the idea matched / felt like a ice age film (like previous ones πŸ˜› ). Parts of the film did actually make me laugh and the “siren” scene is brilliant! A good family film that the everyone can enjoy! Enjoy πŸ™‚ .

Fast Five

Fast Five (2011)

Genre: Action, Crime, Thriller

Ok so I will start of by mentioning that I have not seen any of the Fast & Furious films yet and this was the first one I have seen in full. I will admit it was okay and entertaining enough. There was plenty of action, explosions and everything you would imagine being in an action packed film πŸ˜› ! The acting was okay (I believed in the characters) though Dwayne Johnson out acted all that where there πŸ˜› .Β  The beginning was really good and I felt like I didn’t have to know the previous films to understand what was going on. That I can give it credit for, but it is not enough to save this film. It was just so boring. Where I was interested at the beginning, I got bored stayed bored until the end half. The end half with the “safe” chase was interesting and I liked it when the two forces joined together (trying not to spoil πŸ˜› ). I think the middle got boring because even though I believed in the characters I felt nothing for them. I guess people who like this film’s franchise will enjoy it but it wasn’t my cup of tea. Maybe the previous films or the ones after make this series great? I guess we will have to see. Enjoy πŸ™‚ .

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (2009)

Genre: Animation, Action, Adventure, Family Film, Comedy

I love the fact that dinosaurs are in this movie πŸ˜€ ! All the babies in this film are cute (when you watch this you will know which ones I mean πŸ˜› ). The level of action / danger in this movie matches the previous two (though I would say more film 1 than 2 πŸ˜› ). Even though I have mentioned before that the stories haven’t matched up to the original but I found this one (and film 2) have stayed entertaining and interesting. The reason there are dinosaurs is plausible (well you believe enough to keep watching πŸ˜› ). The danger and relationship of Buck (the weasel) and Rudy (the evil dinosaur) is quite good (can’t say Buck’s one of my favourites but okay enough for film…). Scrat gets a love interest!! Which is epic and really funny πŸ˜› . The “other” world looks impressive, Ellie and the possums are more likable (I actually like these possums now πŸ˜› ). A really good third film to match the rest of the series so far. Enjoy πŸ™‚
