Avengers Grimm

Avengers Grimm (2015)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Fantasy

Don’t be fooled by the name and fantasy cover on the DVD as this film has nothing to do with Marvel or Grimm (the TV series)! This is an okay enough story (I suppose) if you are looking for a cheap sci-fi film. However, I was bored πŸ˜› . I was literally waiting for it to finish since 5 minutes into the movie! All the characters in this movie (even the extras) were clichΓ© and quite honestly, there was too much bad acting to ignore! I really didn’t like the women (the main four protagonists) at all. I’m still unsure about who was playing Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty. Was it the blonde or the purple haired one? Maybe they said it in this film but I must have missed it πŸ˜› . It wasn’t explained why they had powers either. Personally, it would have been nice if we had seen more of (the fairytale) world. The beginning was passable, ending typical with plenty of random action scenes. Enjoy πŸ™‚ !

Inception

Inception (2010)

Genre: Action, Mystery, Sci-Fi

This film is really amazing, captivating and has become one of my favourite movies! It not just action, it becomes more than that with the excellent cast and intriguing narrative. We are thrown into this world / action the minute the film begins. This film requires a lot of focus and you can’t look away in fear of getting confused later on πŸ˜› . The rules of the world are acceptable because of use of cinematography and the epic special effects! Leonardo DiCaprio was amazing in this film and his character was well designed that you were interested enough to know more about him. Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ellen Page, Tom Hardy, Ken Watanabe and Cillian Murphy gave excellent performances and were all essential to the film. This is a wonderful movie by Christopher Nolan that will leave a brilliant impression on you. Plus the ending is a fantastic cliff hanger πŸ˜› ! Enjoy πŸ™‚ !

Hairspray

Hairspray (2007)

Genre: Comedy, Musical, Romance

This is a really fun movie that you can enjoy with your friends (or whoever you want πŸ˜› ). That is mostly what this film is about, big songs, big hair, big production and a great cast. John Travolta was amazing in his role as Edna and surprisingly it didn’t affect the film (I saw the character not the actor). Queen Latifah was brilliant too and Michelle Pfeiffer was amazing as the evil Velma πŸ™‚ ! Zac Effron, Nikki Blonsky, Amanda Bynes and Elijah Kelley played their roles wonderfully but for me the older cast sold this film πŸ˜› . The songs were also great in this movie, one’s that you can sing along to and really fit the feel of this film! Even though this is a really fun, entertaining film it isn’t as light hearted as you might think. There are some issues explored through the fun and dances which had some cultural references to the era. That is what made this movie stand out for me πŸ™‚ . This is a brilliant film that will make you fall for the musical. Enjoy πŸ˜€ !

Terminator Genisys

Terminator Genisys (2015)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

I know there are reviews out there that might not rate this well and true enough nothing really does match up to the original…but I loved this! The narrative was well structured, entertaining and different. They made plenty of references to the older films (through the terminator / characters / beginning sections ect) yet gives new twists as well πŸ˜› ! I also love the actors within this film πŸ™‚ . Emilia Clarke and Jai Courtney’s onscreen relationship was brilliant. Arnold Schwarzenegger was amazing πŸ˜€ ! He made this film! His role was perfect, nostalgic and was central to the entire film. The action wasn’t over done. Jason Clarke actually gave me a John Connor that I like (I have never been a fan of this character) and the character of O’Brien was cool πŸ˜› . The film may seem long and the trailers (if you have seen one) ruins the major plot line. However, this is still a great film and anyone who is a fan of terminator will love this πŸ˜› . Enjoy πŸ™‚ !!

Peter Pan: Return to Neverland

Peter Pan: Return to Neverland (2002)

Genre: Animation, Adventure, Family Film, Children, Disney

This is another of the rare Disney Sequels that actually turns out to be ok πŸ™‚ . The character of Jane is very of the era (early 2000) where she is independent and her individual feelings/problems are relatable to most children (and us adults who haven’t grown up yet πŸ˜› ). Peter Pan is just as likable as he is in the first film and his relationship with Jane is really good. The way these two interact in the film is sweet and helps the narrative along. Captain Hook is still a good bad guy but some of the characters here are maybe a little too cheesy for my liking. It really didn’t match up to the original here. Parts of the narrative were reallyΒ  good such as “Jane getting into Neverland”, “the references to World War” “older Wendy” and “the scene with Tinkerbell”. That last one was a stunning scene for Tinkerbell (you will know it when you see it). Overall, enjoyable (a little cheesy in sections), nice characters and a good sequel if you love the Disney Peter Pan. Enjoy πŸ™‚ !!

Mulan II

Mulan II (2004)

Genre: Disney, Animation, Family Film, Children, Action, Comedy

Sequels to great Disney Classics often have the problem of never matching up to the epic standards. This film does suffer the same problem however this is not a bad film. The narrative allows everyone (fans of the Mulan film more) a different side to the characters. What you get most from this film is the romance that the first movie did not explore. Personally, I liked the romances, story and I did shed a tear near the end (you will know the scene when you watch it πŸ˜› ). The girls were interesting characters however the characters of the original (Shang, the three men, Mulan even…) were affected badly. Though they are good enough to enjoy the film πŸ™‚ . The songs are good enough to sing along to but not as good as it could have been. The drawings aren’t a great quality. If you love Mulan, Disney and want to watch a entertaining enough sequel then this is for you πŸ˜› . Enjoy πŸ˜€ !!

Brother Bear

Brother Bear (2003)

Genre: Disney, Animation, Adventure, Family Film, Children

Another Disney Classic with music from Phil Collins which will always get me loving the songs πŸ˜› . However, the music isn’t the only thing to focus on. The narrative for this film is amazing! It has a simple, straightforward narrative but gives plenty of hints within this film to keep everyone (of all ages) entertained. The beginning starts off great by giving a good introduction to some fantastic characters. The main character (Kenai) is someone you can follow, understand and is likable. The scenes with Kenai and Koda are really good πŸ™‚ . The artwork in this film is stunning especially in the transformation scene which is my favourite section of the entire film πŸ˜€ . The Two Moose’s might get annoying but quite honestly they aren’t bad and they bring a much needed comic relief element. This film is stunning, heart warming and entertaining therefore I recommend you watch this at least once!!! Enjoy πŸ™‚ !

Minions

Minions (2015)

Genre: Animation, Comedy, Family Film, Children

I was looking forward to this film as I have enjoyed the previous two despicable movies and who doesn’t love the minions πŸ˜› . The beginning section gave us (extended) versions of the minions that we have seen in the trailers as we wait for the narrative to begin. The film’s ok I suppose. It is enjoyable, the minions are cute and I get some of the jokes. I really like Sandra Bullock’s character Scarlett OverKill and that it was in England πŸ™‚ . Unfortunately the narrative get a bit so-so and an edge of blandness enters during the middle. Don’t get me wrong children will love this but it kind of feels like they excluded the adults from enjoying this. The narrative ran well but it wasn’t gripping, hilarious or entertaining enough compared to the last films. Maybe this proves that minions aren’t enough to create a great movie. I recommend this film but don’t go with many expectations. Enjoy πŸ™‚ !

Taken 3

Taken 3 (2014)

Genre: Action, Thriller

A lot quicker than the second film and it was not a long wait until the action began πŸ˜› ! Great performance from the daughter and of course, Liam Neeson! You are kept entertained even through the slower sections and the narrative. I liked the police sections of this film and their point of view was different plus the character of Franck Dotzler was very good πŸ˜› . Action and the narrative throughout was quite strong. However, the character of Stuart was very predictable right from the start (literally I guess what he was going to do πŸ˜› ). That aside, this is the squeal that the first film deserved πŸ™‚Β  . Avoid film 2 altogether and skip to this one.Β  Seriously, the narrative won’t be affected πŸ˜› ! Enjoy πŸ˜€ !

I give this film 2.5 Stars out of 5!
