Wuthering Heights

Wuthering Heights (1939)

Genre: Drama, Romance

I have always liked the story of Wuthering Heights and have enjoyed mostly all adaptations from the book. However, this one seemed to miss the mark. The story itself was interesting enough and I really did like Merie Oberon’s portrayal of Cathy. But this story really did not feel like Wuthering Heights. The music was putting me off throughout as it was far too sweet for the narrative of this film. It was suggesting a slightly sad romance instead of the dark tragedy it should have been. Lawrence Olivier was good but I was disappointed that his did not play the character as mad, or as dark as he should have been. The ending disappointed me as it did not follow the book or give me a decent finish. It simply followed the typical conventions of the era and ending with me not feel much for the characters. Though I have to give it credit because I was entertained enough, and Geraldine Fitzgerald’s role as Isabella was amazing 🙂 . It’s a decent enough film that I say you should watch but if you’re a fan of Wuthering height’s the book…you have been warned! Enjoy 🙂 !

I give this film 2.5 out of 5 Stars!
