Hercules (2014)

Genre: Action, Adventure

This was a really good Hercules film which was slightly different from previous versions. I really liked Dwayne Johnson as Hercules who made me like and believe the character 🙂 . They played with the God theme and mystery which I liked more than simply shoving it into my face. The plot was driven well, good length of time and the battles were impressive (not over done). All the acting was superb in this film and I even liked the Amazonian woman who surprisingly did not annoy me 🙂 ! The tale stayed intriguing and got better as the film continued with the many themes of his “great” heroic deeds (though I would have loved to have seen more monsters). A surprising but brilliant film which I recommend to anyone who loved historical fantasy films (especially those in Greek mythology 😛 )! Enjoy!!!

I give this film 4 Stars out of 5!

Bambi (1942)

Genre: Disney, Animation, Family Film, Children, Drama

Another wonderful classic from the good old days of Disney 🙂 ! The colours are beautiful and the art in some of these scenes are spectacular 😀 ! The narrative is pleasant and we all know what happens to Bambi’s mother :P! Sometimes, it seems like they focus on the stylisation and colour of the film rather than a gripping storyline like other Disney films. However, the overall narrative is simply about him growing up which I think it plays well and it kept me entertained throughout. My favourite section was when Bambi is younger because the relationship of him and Thumper is simply adorable! For a classic that will take your breath away with the art work and will take you down memory lane than this is the film for you!! Enjoy 🙂 !

I give this film 4.5 out of 5 Stars!

House at the End of the Street

House at the End of the Street (2012)

Genre: Horror, Mystery, Thriller

This film is interesting and has a very good twist in a narrative, but let’s get one thing straight…it is not a Horror! I watched it expecting to be scared ridiculous but it was more thriller with a touch of predictably. The beginning is the most scariest and I did truly liked the ending’s plot twist. It seems average as a film but gets better which keeps you intrigued plus the acting of Lawrence and Thieriot are superb. Some of the deaths near the end were a little off but I loved the idea of Carrie Ann and it was a generally ok film 🙂 . So if you are looking for a thriller movie about a house then this is the film for you 🙂 ! Enjoy!

I give this film 2.5 Stars out of 5!

A Lonely Place to Die

A Lonely Place to Die (2011)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Crime

This film begins well with the establishment of the characters and the way we are introduced to the twist in the tale. I loved the way we began in the forest, it was gripping, you didn’t know who was going to be “picked” off but it could have been more shocking. The acting was good, I did not know who was going to survive and the narrative was different. But something got lost. When we entered the town it was still interesting but we were compounded by a entirely different set of characters with their own narrative. It just lost the momentum and captivating quality that it should of had. In my opinion the first part of the film was better than the ending but it is still a very good film to watch if you like that type of suspense crime films :P. A good film with really good actors. Enjoy 🙂

I give this film 3.5 Stars out of 5!

The Red Shoes

The Red Shoes (1948)

Genre: Drama, Music, Romance

A stunning film for anyone who loves dance and film combined 😀 ! I was not expecting much from this movie as it was just by chance that I watched it at all. It is a long film and when you begin, you see wonderful acting of Moira Shearer and Anton Walbrook but you don’t think the film is going to get much more exciting. Then the dance begins 🙂 ! Beautiful colours, brilliant dances and that nostalgia feeling for old fashioned films. The narrative gets more gripping and I am still reeling from the shocking twist at the end 😀 . I loved the symbolism and the connection to the Hans Christian Andersen story. I serious recommend this film to anyone who loves dance, a fantastic narrative and shocking endings! The ending is more captivating then the beginning and will leave you stunned! Enjoy 😀 !!

Into the Woods

Into the Woods (2015)

Genre: Adventure, Comedy, Fantasy, Musical, Disney

I was really excited about this musical adaption and it did not disappoint. The songs were wonderfully sung and surprise, surprise everyone can sing! I was seriously wowed by Chris Pine’s and Meryl Streep’s voices!! The narrative flows great keeping you entertained and laughing (or crying) with the characters on their journey into the woods. The one thing that I first did notice was the set, colours and costume design. Wonderfully created, helped the films overall atmosphere and felt more like the fairytale a modern (and older) audiences are excited about! I loved Anna Kendrick as Cinderella plus the pairing of Emily Blunt and James Cordon was splendid. Unfortunately, they did miss some slightly major points from the original which I did miss and true die-hard fans will be disappointed. But for those who like the work of Stephen Sondheim, musicals and wants to see a fairytale with a darker twist then this is the film for you! Enjoy 🙂 !

Transformers: Age of Extinction

Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

I was excited about this film, hoping it would be much better than the last one and I couldn’t wait to see the dinosaur from the trailer! Ok, so I will warn you all now…they only appear near the end of the film not all the way through. I actually liked the characters in this film as they suited the genre, acted how I expected them to and did not annoy me 🙂 . The power from the new Transformer was actually really interesting and cool especially as you get to see it the minute the film begins. The beginning of the film was my favourite section even with the family. However, that makes you think this film is going to be Epic…it is good but it doesn’t keep up that expectations. The film’s major problem that is was too long. I felt like it was all intriguing and useful but far too long. So, if you like transformers, want to see metal dinosaurs, good acting, and large battles than this film is for you! It is, in my opinion, better than film 2 and 3! Enjoy 😀 !

I give this film 4 Stars out of 5!

Resident Evil

Resident Evil (2002)

Genre: Action, Horror, Sci-Fi

This film is better than I thought it would be 🙂 . I had heard about this film from others and the countless sequels that have been made since this first successful debut. The narrative is good, well constructed and kept me entertained throughout. The graphics look odd now so unfortunately the “big” creature did not give the right effect as it could have done but you definitely understand the characters fear of it 😛 ! The acting was good and I don’t think the film would be the same without Milla Jovovich playing the main character Alice. It was gripping, a terrific tale and the twists from the characters was simply genius 🙂 ! The scene with the Zombie Dogs was different, it was my favourite part and quite honestly slightly scary. The ending might not be what you expect or want but will have you wanting more!! Enjoy 😀 !

I give this film 4 Stars out of 5!

The Jungle Book

The Jungle Book (1967)

Genre: Animation, Adventure, Family Film, Children, Disney

Another wonderfully written Disney Classic that is suitable for both children and adults alike 🙂 . My favourite scene has to be with King Louie and his song of “I wanna be like you” plus the character of Shere Khan is a impressive Disney Villain for an animal 😛 . The character Mowgli is not the best one in the world but he is pleasant and you do want him to get his end goal (stay in jungle) . It’s entertaining and has great numbers to sing along to with the entire family or friends (or on your own 😛 )! Personally, I would have liked the ending to be slightly different because I loved the jungle world so much but it does not affect the film at all! So if you’re looking for a great Disney Classic to watch that has an epic soundtrack, great characters and with memorable scenes! Then this film is simply all the bare necessities you need! Enjoy!!
