What a Girl Wants

What a Girl Wants (2003)

Genre: Comedy, Drama, Romance

The film has a  very “early 2000’s feel” to it from the off by the clothes, the type of humour displayed and generally the way it was filmed. It’s an overall pleasing film but it does have the odd stiffness and stereotyping against us British 😛 The quote i’m referring to is; “No hugging, dear. I’m British. We only show affection to dogs and horses”. This bothered me in the film as it seemed to say that we (Me being British and all :P) don’t show human affection like Americans. If they said the Posh/Rich thought that, I suppose I would have been happier…I think. But it did bother me that statement and the accents on some of the “British” characters – the young boy interest for Daphne is one I could mention. Now that rants over 😛 It is an interesting story enough but it feels a little dated and I did notice the odd badly mimed Voice-overs (from the actors playing the royals)…

For the pleasant enough story and the acting of Amanda Bynes and Collin Firth…I give this film 2.5 Stars out of 5.
